What's the absolute highest note that you can play on your saxophone? Also, is your setup free blowing considering your blowing on 9* mouthpiece and a 3.5 reed. That's impressive!
Could you give me some tips on how to do those quick altissimo runs you do in this video near the middle to the end? Thanks. Also what ligature do you use?
@coltranesaxIV the "quick" runs come from lots of practicing slow over time in that range. My best advice is treat the entire range of your horn the same. If you think of altissimo as some separate, alternate universe it always will be. If you're going to practice a major scale, it should be evenly executed from low Bb/B all the way up to the highest "altissimo" note you can play. Hope that makes sense. Ligature is a Rovner.
Absolutely great stuff! btw, I just realised that your body movements are very similiar to those of Joshua Redman! He must a be a great influence! But he certainly is an unusual sax player.
i like the coltrane substitutions you do on the turn arounds, been meaning to check those out for awhile i never really got around to them, by your playing i cant tell you listen to alot of chris potter.
Dang Bob! You keep finding new ways to amaze me with your playing. Love your new album, i try to emulate your sound everyday. I can't believe how smooth your tone is with such a wide tip opening. Are you still on that 9* link?
@kylegeee Thanks. For some reason (the way I encoded the video, perhaps) it sounds like I'm playing the sax underwater. Oh well. Mouthpiece is a hard rubber Otto Link #9 w/Rico Royal 3.5 reeds.
@bobreynolds youtube also compresses the sh*t out of those videos. It's possibly not your fault. However in most video editing software, you can adjust video and audio settings separately, which you need to do if you want to have a strong audio track. Most templates in those softs are not adequate for musicians. :)
@bobreynolds Whatever you're doing man, keep it up! I was playing a show tonight, and someone pulled me aside and told me i sounded like you on my Metal Dukoff. I was stoked!
Bob you have such a great tone.

@12345678910aaronable - Mouthpiece is a hard rubber Otto Link #9 w/Rico Royal 3.5 reeds. Thanks.

@bobreynolds Really? WTF? Your piece must have a long facing...
Anyway, I think you definitely have a little Chris Potter in some of your inflections, or attacks and tone.
