turbines stink and arnt for water,
get the piston engine's back in hydro's and it;ll be right again.

The new boats look sexier than the old boats, but the old V12 aircraft engines made the old boats 10 times more exciting. You could feel the power and hear the roar! Bring back the Merlins and Griffons and the sport will be revitalized.

I'd love to see the thunder back in the boats, but I'm gonna guess there's a huge shortage of parts for the engines which are left.

Correct, and the parts shortage is mostly due to the 40 years of boat racing that used up the surplus engines that were not scrapped. The motors did not last long with wild rpm fluctuations and rapid heat changes and they weren't designed for this activity. If hydros wish to return to piston power, then a new engine should be purpose-built for the sport, or use the smaller Falconer V12 marine engines. Perhaps one day, new aero engines will be built but it's not happening yet.

ahhh this is the sound i remember on the detroit river. the REAL thunderboats. honestly,,, who the hell wants to see a quiet turbine race?

I was at that race - but on the Kennewick side. Kinda miss the roar of a Merlin engine.

Growing up in oWENSBORO, kY , as a kid , the sound of 7-8 in the water literally shook yer heart out of chest. I t freaked me out. I have so many freat memories of the Oboro and Evill and Madison races. i have a lot of great memorabilia. the greatest racing in the world, screw NASCAR!!!!

what a sound! i hear these engines might be coming back into favor since the jet engines tend to be more finnicky? i like both styles of engines, but the piston powered craft really let you FEEL thae race.
