You self serving jackass. That is a GRAVE, it's not there for your petty fucking amusements.
And it was Canadian Law that stopped dives, not the families. If you feel the need to blame someone for you not being able to add the Mighty Fitz to your pissing contest of one, blame the appropriate party.
@lesterclaypool1 funny how nobody actually decided to go find the bodies. and besides, my company has been wanting to dive this ship to find out the true cause of her sinking, and how to prevent accidents like this in the future. hmm..... whos the fucking piece of shit?
You're gonna find anything out on a tech dive? Are you kidding me? Longest free tech dive down there before all intrusive investigation was stopped didn't even last 6 minutes. There is not one bit of information that can be obtained from a tech dive, this has been determined and this is why, AGAIN, the GOVERNMENT, not the families, has stopped all dives to the wreck.
Plenty of wrecks in those lakes you can dive in the interest of harm prevention, it doesn't have to be the Fitz.
Con't For the record, removing your original comment and replacing it with some bullshit altruistic response doesn't make you any less of a jackass. People can read the responses to your original comment and see how self serving it was, not to mention completely disrespectful to the surviving family members due to your ignorance. You may as well restore it as the responses to it make no benes about what it contained. Your self censorship isn't going to change the truth.
The ship was found shortly after the sinking. Don't forget it was carrying tons of taconite iron ore. It was an easy magnetic anomaly to spot. Secondly, the crew would've all been inside at the time of the loss due to the 60mph+ winds and 25ft+ swells. They ship probably sank too fast for anyone to get out. And lastly, the discovery of a body by a private diver was actually what prompted the families to sue to have the Fitz made into a formal gravesite. Check out the book "Mighty Fitz"
I saw that video where they found a body outside the wreck. They should leave it alone. There's nothing else left to investigate. I despise Tom Farnquist efforts when he modernized the Fitzgerald bell by cleaning the bell. They should have left the bell as it was. Farnquist is a grave robber and makes a profit from the loss of the crews at the families expense. I can't believe that the Coast Guard be as ignorant to only conclude that she sank from 'loose hatch covers'.
Usually bodies are left on the sunken ships after a certain period of time, such as Pearl Harbor.Mariners consider the ships as tombs and as last posted the families are protective of the wrecks for that reason.
As deep as the wreck is and as cold as the waters remain year around im certain the bodies have been preserved to a certain degree.
i remember this event all too well. wow what a fucking depressing day it was for everyone involved .fuck gordon lightfoot hes a freak.tribute songs only seem to perpetuate the pain
Did you lose someone in the wreck? It just seems that the way you talk about it, it hit a bit close to home for you. It was indeed a horrible tragedy. Lightfoot, I'm sure, wasn't trying to 'perpetuate the pain' when he wrote the song, only deal with his own grief and help the families of those who passed with theirs.
Gordon Lightfoot created a honorable memorial for the crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald. The real freak in the tragedy is the man who arranged to deface the bell from the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and then put it in a musuem where you must pay a fee to see it as a memorial of the crew. Check out more on the story of the bell and the wreck on Edmund Fitzgerald by looking at the videos I posted on You Tube.
Why is that unfortunate? Everyone knows what happened to them, so finding remains shouldn't be that much of a surprise. Are we supposed to dive down to these wrecks and -never- find human remains? It's to be expected.
Eerie footage of a famous wreck; interspersed with some storm footage, personal info about the crew and ocean views...add the song written about the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot, and I think you'd have something really nice, esp if you revealed the actual views of the ship near the end of the song. A tragic story, quite moving...hope you do it. Would be a nice tribute. (Hope you don't mind the suggestions)
dude that be cool to see inside the ship omg i want to see so badly

Why do you hate the families? It is canadian law. Also, even if it as legal to drive down there, you do not havt the equiment to do it.

@brianisawesom It would be cool to go down there but you gotta respect the families of those who were lost.

@Mowac I agree, Tom Farnquist is a lowlife snake. The bell should never have been raised in the first place. It belongs on the Fitz.

By chance on the dives, did the researchers ever find any bodies while exploring the wreck??
theonlydrummer 5 years ago
Unfortunately they did find a body on the '94 expedition when skeletal remains were located outside the wreck on the lake floor.
