does any one knows the specs of the diode he is cleaning? i have a couple of MAF but they miss the diode. A new MAF is more than 100 bucks. A new diode is only 3 bucks. Thanks
Guys, this IS a vw Bosch MAF sensor and he IS cleaning it correctly. Light brushing and electrial connector cleaner is the proper way to clean this item. I've been a VW mechanic for 38 year's and I have done the same thing many many times. This procedure works on ALL MAF sensors! Remember, air blows across the fine wires and tells the computer that a specific vol. of air is available. A volt/ohms check before and after will tell you if you made a difference. 2 Screws,pop it out and clean it! ;
exactly, this is the infamous VAG maf made by Bosch [or lmm for those who live in Germany]. I've been cleaning it this way for 10 years with great effects [after cleaning it shows correct air flow values in 008 measure blocks under VAG/VAS/VCDS].
it's sitting in my dad's car and I do clean it every 30-60 days. no DTCs ever emerged after cleaning.
This video is totally misleading as per other comments this PART is the air intake temp sensor NOT the MAF sensor which is actually inside the air sample tube and CANNOT/MUST NOT be "cleaned" sprayed with contact cleaner and especially NOT subjected to compressed air which will destroy it instantly !!!!!
I usually spray the whole damn thing .. and every little hole on it HAHAHAHAH ... I have this type of sensor on my Audi A4.. But I dont use a brush .. just spray it and blow it a little with air ! Great Result ! And yes .. this type of sensor plays a big roll and if bad can cause CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.. ENGINE SHAKING/Shuddering .. SELF REVVING ETC....
@100KA hi my 2004 a4 is doing everything that u have said engine light on,car shaking revs strange.is the air flow meter the problem please help its driving me mentel been told its the idle control valve thts blocked n making the car do what its doing please help love u long time !!!!
@johnswales First check your coil pack ... and spark plugs .. By checking coils , unplug 1 at a time while the car is running . If your car makes no CHANGE in sound when you pull 1 of the coils out of spark plug . You sir need a new coil pack or spark plug . If so .. change all 4 of them including spark plugs . Thats the first thing you always want to check if you are experiencing the problems your having . And let me know ..
you didn't clean anything, the measuring wires are in the plastic cover. there are two openings and of them has the arrow that shows the air direction, clean that part. I have the same MAF sensor on my alfa 156 1.9 jtd, huge difference after cleaning.
@medicbr549 the outside "wires" are nothing more that a thermistor that measure air temperature, the part that measures flow is inside, I had the same sensor on my alfa 156 1.9 jtd. NEVER TOUCH THEM!!! only use the right spray
i wouldn't recommend touching the maf at all. they sell 'maf cleaner' at autozone or pepboys. spraying a bit of that at a distance of 6-8 inches from the electronics is goo enough. leave it to drip dry or air compress it from 6-8 inches and it should be good
dude youve got no fuckin' clue what your doin' !!!! the actual platinum plate which need to be cleaned is inside and the best thing to use for that is H2SO4 if u know whats that!!! fuckin' fool cleaned shotky diode which need to cooled that why is out side, take that wideo off!!!
if your MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor is going bad you will experience, poor acceleration, wastes lots of gas than usual, poor horse power and a shit load of head pain trying to find why your bucket is action like a lil biotch! lol.. just replace it with a brand new one, its worth it. Spraying it with MAF spray can ruin it like it did mine. I suggest everybody buys a OBD II code reader, it helps a lot. about $30 for the basic but worth every penny. Once you get a code, search online for answers.
i just spray the sh*t out of mine let it dry ( 10 sec ) and put it back and its good .. and I spray the part on the right side the way your holding it .. the actual flow sensor is in between that plastic
the sensor in the video is indeed a MAF from bosch .. though using a tool like described is a BAD idea .. use 99% alcohol .. dip it in and let it dry afterwards otherwise you will ruin it
this is not a MAF sensor at all it looks like an air temp sensor to me. If it was a MAF sensor it would have very fine strands of wire that break very easily so DO NOT use a brush to clean a MAF sensor just use MAF sensor cleaner not break cleaner or throttle body cleaner just MAF cleaner.
@workensmart it is a MAF sensor, i just cleaned my Bosch sensor too its the same, although i didnt use a brush or anything just to stay on the safe side
I have a E46 M3 and in a couple of weeks I will be cleaning my MAF sensor, I already bought the CRC MAF sensor cleaner, I was just wondering how easy it was to clean it and if you have any advice for me???
@anonymousangel11 Hey hows it goin im good, cleaning a MAF is actually quite easy its just a bit more complicated than changing your air filter. When I took the whole unit apart, I sprayed it completely not only the wires, until its soaking. Do this about 5 times just make sure youre doing it somewhere ventilated cuz the fumes are toxic. I did see some difference my engine light turned off permanently and my throttle response was back! good luck with your procedure, and lt me know how it goes
@masso172 Hey buddy, just few hours ago I cleaned my MAF sensor... Everything went perfectly fine and the sensor was exactly the same as in this video... Very easy to take out, Sprayed it about 4-5 times... I haven't drove with it yet. Will be doing that tmm to see if there is any different... I think the hard part was to find the right tools. You need something called "TORX" screw driver, size T20... but over all easy job to do...
@anonymousangel11 Hey whats going on man! Yeah this is a simple task the only thing that threw me off was those Security Torx that have a little tab in the middle i just vice gripped them out lol but other than that everything went good for me too. I hope that you used MAF sensor cleaner or the correct type of alcohol to clean it, if you use soap or similar you can ruin the device.. Good luck with your car, have a good one!
yeah, that's true - it has nothin' to do with the circuit. why would it have to? that's not the cause of reduced measurement.
air temperature resistor plays big part in calculating air mass flow, especially in that particular MAF model [used in 2.5 V6 TDI engines]. this particular way of cleaning let the MAF to maintain the read value of app. 750 mg/R at the full throttle on 3rd gear in the useful range of rpm for more than 3 months after the engine is equipped with this MAF.
well, it's good that there are lots of guys that have the clue, isn't it?
I've been doing it for two fuckin' years with this particular MAF and evethin' is fine. I do always diagnose it via VCDS after the procedure and it always measures correct air mass [no DTC].
@lwowskij The mesuring is done by the hot wire wen air passes by the wire cools it and the difenrence in temperare and resistence tells the computer what is the amout or air that is coming in.... Thats what Bosh manual says... So cleaning the hot wire is in fact cleaning the MAF! MAF = Mass Air Flow "Sensor"
hahaha no worries mate. It had no wire, and i read about it, appearntly some models came with no wire :S. anyway i drive a bmw 330 ci these days. much less headache
@michobebemckawi this is the mass air flow sensor, I know, I got the same on my alfa romeo 1.9 jtd. and he didn't clean anything here. the measuring part the in the plastic cover.
and this my friends is how you destroy your cars sensor..

Don't be cheap, just shop around online and get a new one. Buying just the sensor (not the whole MAF assembly) may be less costly.

no wire ?
u need a new maf.
The MAF connects to your ECU and Fuel Injectors. The same as the Crank sensor the camshaft sensor and the knock sensor to the Coil and Ecu.

can a bad maf sensor make your car sputter when you try to accelerate?
bass1134 2 years ago
yes it can do, If you unconnect it. the engine will run better then a faulty one
what car do u own ?
antonyr123 2 years ago
well i unconnect it and there is very little difference other than the rpm bouncing up and down. still sputters, i won a 94 bmw 325is
bass1134 2 years ago
well its not that, Reconnect all the HT leads/coils and check your plugs.
If there black it sounds like ur runing alittle rich.
antonyr123 2 years ago
ive done all that already but ill see what i can do, code reader and stomp test didn't come up with a maf code anyway. thanx for your help.
bass1134 2 years ago
how do you open the sensor? i mean the two wires you are cleaning are covered by plastic?

nope, You do not have to open anything in this particular Bosch MAF model.
the wires are uncovered.
