  • massive LEDGENDDD

  • The videos are great, but not a fan of the volkswagon comment at the beginning. I own a Bora VR6 and the leather in the interior is of nicer quality than that which cadillac uses in their CTS. I'll take German autos over American any day.

  • @cerghonda unless your buying a mopar :)

  • Nice work I'm not near as good yet but your helping thx

  • I have your first DVD and I love it. I had no idea you made a second one! Can't wait to buy it.

  • what type of sandpaper do you need to get a good finsh and which types of sandpaper do you use at stages of painting the model car

  • r those kits metal or plastic?

  • @hellionFTW plastic

  • On that ford motor the distributor was on the wrong end of the motor, nice models and tips though.

  • I'd love to know what camera he uses...

  • Now listen mister man VW is not a Mercedes-Benz but it is still a good car. Dacia is rubbish or toyota.

  • your s.n. am i the only guy out there that used to get an amt car from k-mart for $1.44

  • you're on the money with that carb color. is that a mix or straight color?

  • @jacklazzell

  • i have that same elcamino but its not orage its light green and white good vid

  • Do you happen to have, or could you make, any DVDs on how to hand paint model cars? I only have testors enamel model paint, some testors brushes, sand paper, and some thinner. And clear and primer.

  • @rapeape32

No , that one would be out of the question . Hand painting is pretty much of a lost art . Even spray cans will some day become obselete , the airbrush is the only way to fly . I'm sorry !

  • where do u get all ur decals?

  • @19Mustang27

    Slixx.com

  • volkswagens have leather, nav systems all the luxury shit

  • I'd take a Volkswagen over a Caddy anyday.......

  • @jcostello117 that seems to be a problem :)

  • What is that stuff u make the frame of the car look dirty looking

  • @19Mustang27

Chalk , you can find weathering sets at your local hobby shop , art supply store , etc . Don't like how it turned out ? Simply wash it off , dry it , and start over again .

  • I just bought me an airbrush. How should I reduce the enamels and laquers so they will spray through my badger 200 series airbrush?

  • @nboldman

2 to 1 ratio of paint to cheap laquer thinner . Really should consider the dvd , it will save you a ton of agravation and cut your learning curve by years !

  • wow...the engine is extremely detailed..ive never seen a model car kit with that much detail in the engine with wires running...what kind of paint are you using for these ...sorry im kinda new to the model building..oops sorry nvm you made a custom one

  • @13RGaun

Testors enamels in the 1/2 ounce bottles . When cut with cheap laquer thinner , they dry tight , hard , and fast , with no loss of body detail .

  • @oldmansmodels thanks man

  • wow...the engine is extremely detailed..ive never seen a model car kit with that much detail in the engine with wires running...what kind of paint are you using for these ...sorry im kinda new to the model building

  • Very nice job

  • volkswagen as cheap? they build better quality than a lot of american cars

  • @kcolin6701

Once upon a time , long ago , back when I was in my teens , the Volkwagen was a starter car . They were cheap in price, easy to work on , and for the most part , a rust bucket . They would run forever as long as you could keep a body on them . Just a description as to what they were long ago and far away !

  • @kcolin6701 You mean , better quality than ANY american car. VW is the one of 3 leaders of automotive industry today, they build some of the best cars in the world (bugatti, audi, lamborghini, vw, seat, skoda) and invent most new technologies. Calling VW cheap is like calling BMW cheap...

  • @derbigpr500

This was back in the 60's , Guys ! The Vw was referred to as " The Bug " back then and they were exactly what I indicated . They were a cheap , dependable , rust bucket that were easy to obtain and work on ! It is quite evident to me that this was well before your time , for that matter , probably your parents as well ! It's called history , Fellas and I lived it ! End of story !

  • @oldmansmodels I am aware that VW's used to be considered cheap, that was their point...the name Volkswagen means "Peoples car" , suggesting its made for masses...but the guy i was replying to was talking about VW as cheap TODAY, not in the past.

  • Some beautiful work there, really like the SWC Willys.

I was wondering if you use any setting solution with your decals and if you clear coat them with any lacquer after? Thanks.

  • @CycolacFan Thank you ! I do not use setting solution , it can get you in trouble real quick if you have to remove the decal . It's going to hurt the finish . By simply taking your time and smoothing the decal , you can produce excellent results . I do not put clear over my decals , this too can lead to heartache . A bubble in the decal , a tiny flap or split can become a fish eye in half of a heartbeat .If a decal goes on crooked or splits , I can remove it with a piece of scotch tape .

  • @oldmansmodels

Thanks Donn, I appreciate the info.

  • where did you get the kit of that Barracuda on 9:05?

  • @noobtime Kit is from Amt , it was re released a while back . You can find it on ebay , model car shows , model roundup or any of the other online hobby shops.

  • @oldmansmodels thanks, i will look on ebay ;D

  • @oldmansmodels other question, where you get so many tires? You buy tires, or you get from other kits?

  • @noobtime

I get them from other kits , recently alot of the resin casters started making drag tires which is a big plus . Most of my drag tires come from the Revell pro stock kits or the ' 41 Willys gassers . For the old school style , the old AMT kIts had the M& H slicks in them.

  • Muy bueno!!

Very good! is very technical and your model cars are Unique

  • @Fabirocklive Thank you , the dvds shorten the learning curve by years and can save you a small fortune in the process !

  • Can you make a video hoe to glue pieces together after painting? i alwase damaged the paint the a sprayed on to the car an have to cover it with a sticker :(

Thanks and nice tips!!! complements to your cars!!!

  • @zombie19844891

Thank you ! You need to start using Microbrush applicators and Plastizap glue . This way you control your glue application and it won't end up all over your paint work !

  • where did you get your model car kits?

  • Hay EtownProd2 can i get your e-mail address cuse i would like to send you some Pic's of this model cars i have just completed

    thanks joeblood111

  • question does he show on how to use detail master? cause sum r wicked hard to use n stuff?

  • Will you be making any future DVD's?

There is one military modeler that put together a DVD of a complete build starting from opening up the box all the way to total completion of the model.

Do you have plans on doing something like that?

It would ne neat if you could put together a DVD on how to detail an engine!

    Peace

  • Hello my name is Athrun and I was wondering how to paint my model car, I am using testors paint, and i dont if i use two coats scine i am painting it by useing a brush, also should i paint the pieces first or bulid it?

  • @FightingSpirt

Hi Athrun. Our first DVD that we made is actually all about that. It's called "The Art of Airbrushing Show Quality Model Cars." You can get the DVD at oldmansmodels com.

  • @FightingSpirt ok first take ya dick skeet all over it to make the paint stick then sand the skeet wit 100000 grit wet ass repeat steps 10 to 20 times then paint however u want

P.S. hav a good time jackin off

    P.P.S. and painting

  • @FightingSpirt paint it piece by piece so that way when you put it togather it allready painted so you dont paing things that you dont want painted

  • @FightingSpirt use an airbrush. do not use a brush it will not turn out good!

  • BEAUTIFULL WORK!

  • I just got 3 new models. I'm gonna try to get In to shows but I'm a little hesitant...

  • 1anmonty1

Never hesitate ! It's all about learning. By attending shows , you will gain an education that is second to none . Talking with other modelers , asking questions . checking over other modelers work , etc , will improve your overall modeling skills tenfold !

  • Lotta gassers.

  • compliments a really incredible masterpiece ..

  • lol, I thought VW is not very cheap in the states

  • @5cmpersec

Once upon a time they were very cheap in the States . They would run forever , the bodies just did'nt last ! These days , not so cheap ! LoL !

  • Beautiful works by the way. Also, what is your preference for painting the car bodies? thanks

  • @5cmpersec

I use Testors enamels cut with cheap laquer thinner at a 2 to 1 paint to thinner ratio. Drys quick , tight , without any loss of trim or body detail.

  • Congrats Donn for making the Scale Auto February 2010 Magazine! 6 Pages on your work!

  • whats that small white fuzzy thing he is using to point at the engine with?

  • That is a very very tiny paint brush. You find them maybe six to a pack in a good hobby store.

  • Actually , it is one of Micro Brush's fine glue applicators . I highly recommend them as a building tool .
