do any of you know what welfare actually is. its comprised of at least 70 different programs. The people who recieve foodstamps work just like everybody else. its a very small pergentage of people who dont work. Most welfare programs require you to generate some sort of income or meet specific income requirements. medicare and medicade is also welfare and so is unemployement. most people who recieve unemployement checks are middle class people in between jobs. social security = welfare.

Things are the same in the UK! About 35% or my pay goes in tax. If I put it in the bank the government then takes 20% of interest in tax, if I spend it they take 20% in VAT (sales tax). If I chose not to work I'd get Job Seekers Allowance (social security), plus housing benefit (up to £500/$1000 a week), council tax benefit (£1200 a year), child benefit, etc.etc. It just sends out the wrong message to hard working people!

I am from the UK and we have the same problem. People on benefits are stigmatized as free loaders who don't want to work because life on benefits is comfortable. The people on benefit who don't want to work are the minority and not the majority, but i do believe work should be given to people who get comfortable on benefit and if they refuse the work they should be penalised to send out a message that benefits are not a permanent arrangement, but an interim solution till they find work.
Be careful where you lay the blame because people on welfare can't demand what they get, they take what they are given. People on welfare should not be driving stretch limos and eating caviar everyday but they should have a reasonable standard of living above the poverty line so that welfare is not used as a punishment if you happen to lose your job. Then after you sold the identified items you would be entitled to payments. I think that form of means testing was extreme to say the least, I hope we don't go back to those days.

Don't worry the feds are on it, there are many people wearing the orange robes that steal from the system so don't you worry justice will prevail but even if we don't catch everyone you know you can sleep at night because you did the right thing

you are really sweet and your video was great.. I'm a former social worker in NY and the fact is far above the fiction. Most families are working very hard for their check anyone with a baby over one can not stay home.. if they can' find a job the work for their check the people who pop up in your supermarket are probably dressed really well but that is the only real estate they own clothig the average family has two children but can't go to college because the education system is failing them.

thank you!! and i understand that what i'm talking about isn't always the case. i know there are plenty of people who need welfare; however, if they're pulling up in their mercedez cars and wearing armani shirts and leather jackets, don't you think there's something wrong with that? and i understand that there are a lot of situations (especially now) where rich people who haven't saved their money are facing hard times... but it's still frustrating...
