Sounds like a Cosworth YB motor to me. Cosworth YB's are proven to produce over 800 bhp without nitrous and over 1000 bhp with it! All that from a 2.0 litre (sometimes bored out to 2.1-2.2 litres) 4 cylinder engine!!! The most powerful YB I know of without nitrous is in a Zakspeed kitted mk2 Escort, it produces 896 bhp! It is a regular at the Gatebil festivals in Norway. The Cossie YB is a common engine swap for the mk2 escort as the block is similar to the pinto motor the mk2 RS2000 had.

I only know about the 5 cyl 2.5 engine that Volvo make which is also in the current Focus RS and ST, the most power I have heard of from that motor is 560 bhp that is why I assumed it was Cosworth powered. The rest of the Volvo range is a mystery to me. Still, it is a serious piece of machinery! It is great to see someone going a different path to big power.

Easy error the old Datsun/Nissan Bluebird,LKA the Sentra, looks a lot like the Escort MK2. Ironically, both cars went on to being watered down FF cars that could barely hold their water.
I think FORD and NISSAN should go and make new FR compacts along those lines.
They made a special edition escorts with cosworth motors in them. They're super powerful, even if you simply chip them they put out some good power. Garret Turbo's and all wheel drive. These things are rare and super quick.
