  • It also seems like these engines have better power to weight ratio than the full scale engines. Judging from the amount of wheel spin you have at startup and how fast the train accelerates... Am I right? :)

  • In a way , it's more that the boiler pressure isn't scaled down. A large full size 4-4-0 has a working pressure of around 170-195psi, this model like most has a working pressure of 80-100psi, but the model is 1/8th scale so the pressure should be lower.

  • @DAKOTA56777 I have the pops set at 90 psi on my model because the boiler is 53 years old and made of copper. When engines are running the pressure drops and it does vary quite a bit depending on terrain, speed and the temperature of water being added. The variation would be smaller on the full size engines due to the larger volume in the boiler. New steel model boilers are usually set at 125 psi.
