I hate that they added Abbadon into both the Factions and Prophecies campaigns. It was so much cooler with the mystery behind the Titans, the Door of Komali and the Fortune Teller. Nightfall did ruin Guild Wars; both lore wise and in game. Though that said it still remains my favourite game after playing so many others (WoW, Lineage, Elder Scrolls etc).

I cant change your opinion on factions, but the story is really more in depth then you think, since it delves into the mindset of human nature, the theme of power and is also based on the tragedy of Macbeth.

And yes, in the movie Sauron explodes after his finger is cut off. I can imagine Arenanet was like: Oh wow, we can do something like that in our next game. Therefore, I find it cliché, also because there is no reason given why he explodes, he just does it...

GW Factions is probably loosely based on Golgo 13 (the assassin). Golgo 13's alias is Duke Togo. Plus there's a merchant named Golgo at Tahnnakai Temple.

Shiro was convinced he was going to die by a fortune teller who told him many things that came to be true.

She later told him to beware the harvest ceremony, the emperor would betray him and kill him, and when they went to Harvest Temple (shown) for the ceremony, the emperor made a strange request, like asking Shiro to accompany him inside the temple.

Fearing he would be betrayed Shiro slew the Emperor and the ritualists with him

It's later revealed the fortune teller was the Dark God Abbadon

From what I understood, after he was told that the emperor was going to kill him, he started getting into dark magic. Hence the soul sucking thing and the nuke effect it caused when he died.

But you can travel from Tyria(Guild wars) to Cantha(Guild Wars Faction) with the same character you created. Basically it is from travelling to a different Country in a different situation.

Shiro wasn't that bad as this trailer shows... He was just scared of the prophecies from the old women in Kaineng, which said, that the Emperor will kill him. He felt betrayed, and he have to choose: Him, or the Emperor. He decided to kill his Master. I can understand it so far...but, 300 years later he attacked Cantha with swarms of Afflicted monsters, spreading death and destruction. What the hell? He gone crazy? If yes - He's Evil :)

The old women was a demon-minion of Abaddon in humans body which deceived and corrupted Shiros mind thus leading to the plot twist.

@Sunriseray That's Abaddon's taint. The guy went totally nuts. Something similar happend to the Vizier, but while Shiro was more... neutral, the Vizier had some evil inside of him. That's why it was easier and faster for him to be corrupted to the point on turning into a monster with horns. Shire kept his form, though.

Rurik was lucky, players could free him before the taint was strong enough to wreck his mind.

@Sunriseray He was corrupted by the evil god of secrets, Abbadon. The fortune teller was his servant and he was manipulating behind the scenes the events of both Prophecies and Nightfall. Once he died he belonged to Abbadon, this is why when his soul was carried away he was brought to the Realm of Torment instead of the Mists.

They're both really good and I'm sure you'd like either one. But imo prophecies was alot better. Although you can get max lvl in factions alot faster but its a ton harder.

I'd get prophecies myself, if you're only gonna have one, it's got a better learning curve and you aren't throw in the deep end straight away. I think you can do a trial by going to the GW website

Yup, Prophecies is longer, while Factions let's you get to lv20 much faster. What I did was buy the whole trilogy through steam in one pack.

I preferred the setting of Factions, plus it has more PvP content. Though with Prophecies you can get Eye of the North, which is easily the best campaign yet.

Factions is a lot more shorter then prophecies but you get assassin and ritualist! I brought all 4 of them for £35 so that's probably the best! But it all depends on what you feel like :).

Tbh dude, all of them are fucking brilliant. Factions has Ritualist and Assassin so I think you should get this one. It's more easy to level up, and Prophecies is also amazing, you should get both. ;D
