  • Hey man, nice video. As a propspective student, I was just wondering what building this is?

  • @iiTzPoor Heyyy, sorry it took me so long to respond. I no longer live on campus, and my apartment building's internet was down all weekend =\.

Anyways, this is Pearson Residential College. But it's almost identical to Mahoney Residential College as well. They share a lobby and stuff, too.

  • @SADpandaKILLER Haha no problem. Thanks for the info.

  • It's great to be a Miami Hurricane

  • Good vid. 2 things, 1 what's the social vibe between your friends & neighbors like? 2 what's the average living costs? ( I couldn't watch it with audio so I don't know if you answered my question or not)

  • @Stevenr9999 I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the vibe between myself and my friends. But as far as neighbors go, most people don't talk to their neighbors in the upperclassmen dorms that you see here unless you know them already. The freshman dorms are where everyone is friendly and social. After that year people have pretty much made cliques and stay in them. The average cost of living? I don't have an exact answer for you, but the school probably does. But I'd say its pretty high

  • @Stevenr9999 The dorm rooms themselves are around 6k for the year. Then you are forced to have a meal plan if you live on campus and those are pretty expensive. Then you have to add all your entertainment on top of that, which tends to be pretty expensive, too, just because that's the nature of living in Miami. Cost of living at Miami is a lottt more than at traditional colleges (I know that it's much more $ than U of Florida as my sister went there)

  • Hey man, cool video. I'm thinking about applying to Miami. I've heard that it's a blast and the people are friendly, but I've also heard that the people can be stuck-up assholes. What do you think?

  • @Sully0020 I think that both are true. There are obviously really nice, cool people here. But there are also a lot of stuck up assholes. You'll find that anywhere. But I wouldn't disagree that we probably have a higher percentage of stuck-up kids. Just kind of comes with the territory of having so many very wealthy students I suppose. But there are 10,000 under grads here, so there are PLENTY of nice people to be friends with haha.

  • @SADpandaKILLER Haha thanks for responding man, youre proof that there are some cool people there!

  • @Sully0020 Haha, thankss. Feel free to message me or comment on here if you have any other questions or anything.

Best of luck wherever you end up

  • Actually yeah that was super helpful and thank you for taking the time to reply. Most the kids from my school want to stay super close to family but personally for me i've moved around a lot cause my dad was a Marine for 25 years you know so i don't have a set "home" to to speak. I'll message you if i have any other issues or anything, but what are some of the things you like the most about being there?

  • @Diamond121212 Things I like most about being here? My best friend and girlfriend go here lol. But obviously that doesn't apply to you. So I'd have to say that the best things are the same here as they would be for me anywhere else: the friends and memories you make at college. Like I said before, I think you can be happy anywhere you go pretty much. It's just really a matter of what you like. For example, we're not an SEC football school. But we have South Beach clubbing and the beach lol

  • I'm thinking of applying there but idk :/ I'm a Senior right now in Missouri and i want to go somewhere new and te school seems really nice and everything from the letters and stuff i've gotten i'm just not sure to begin i guess. Did you move in there as a freshman and if so what was it like?

  • @Diamond121212 Yea, I moved into the dorms as a freshman. It was fun! That's when you make all your friends, really. I think that people will be happy anywhere they go, as long as they are willing to. If you need to be with your family, or your high school friends for w/e reason, then you should do what you need to. But if not, this is a great place to be. There are tons of kids from out of state and out of the country, you won't be out of place. Hope that helps some, feel free to message me

  • im coming to UM in 2 years from the U.K if you still there in 2 years could you help me set up my xbox live?

  • @ParrallaxMedia If I'm still here I sure can.

  • Can you go online (Xbox LIVE) with your Xbox 360?

  • @krspykreme2 Yes, but not in the normal way lol. If you end up going to UM send me a private message or something and I'll explain to you how to do it.

  • @SADpandaKILLER How can I do it, PM me please!! Thanks!

  • do they accept international students?

  • @kirraww I assume you mean the University in general. So yes, they take quite a few international students. A lot of exchange students, I'd say.

  • @SADpandaKILLER how to get in can u help me? im @ asia singapore the frst language in this country is also english

  • @SADpandaKILLER do i need to take sats or community college or something?

  • @kirraww

    miami.edu/index.php/ug/applying/international_student_application_documents/

  • @kirraww put at w w w. in front of that link

  • @SADpandaKILLER thx it helped alot i was jus wonderin? whr does the majority of international students come from?

  • @kirraww I don't have the statistics infront of me, but I'd guess the majority are from China. Followed by middle easterns (as an inclusive group, including students from different countries in that region). But like I said, that's just my educated guess from my personal encounters.

  • How big is the tv that you have in there?

  • @11Herpderp that's a 37 inch

  • do alot of sophs jrs and srs live on or off campus 'cause im an incoming transfer student and wanna know if there's any chance of getting on campus living?

  • @MoolahDough My roommate this year is a transfer student so we went through the whole process of trying to get him in on-campus housing with me. it was a nightmare. basically, it can be done, but you'll have to wait to find out if you get housing, so then if you don't, you're screwed because everything off campus is already rented up. if you do get it, you'll be placed with randoms, which can be good or bad. and you probably won't get to choose which dorm you're in which is also an issue.

  • Additionally, if you're going to a student here this fall, you're probably already too late to apply for on-campus housing. I don't know if there is a late registration period or what, but students have had their housing assignments for months now. You should contact the housing department and ask them (even though, in my personal experience) they are HUGE assholes).

Best of luck and welcome to the U!

  • @SADpandaKILLER what about the university village? is that on campus or off?

  • @MoolahDough The UV is on campus. It is also only for students who will have jr standing (credit-wise) for the semester they want to begin living in the UV.

  • hmmm i'll have to look into that

  • but can't the school make any kind of exceptions about my car because i'll go crazy if something happens to it :|

but the campus sounds fun seriously

  • @Utubelover1011 Exception? Highly unlikely, but you are welcome to try. I personally wouldn't bother, though.

You can park your car in the Red Road Commons' parking garage which cannot be entered w/o a parking transmitter. It'll be just as safe there as anywhere else in Miami, including on campus.

There are tons of nice cars around, it's not like yours will be the only one and stick out.

  • it looks really congested

and am i allowed to bring my car for the 1st year?

  • @Utubelover1011 ... Thanks? That's just how dorm life is... you have to fit your entire life into a tiny room, that you share with another person.

And no, you can't get a parking pass as a freshman, but you can park it other places near campus. But obviously you have to walk to and from that location whenever you are going/coming.

  • @SADpandaKILLER that's no damn fun.. :| i think i'm gonna get my own apartment because i like my space and privacy lol and i have a car and i don't like parking it any and anywhere :S

  • @Utubelover1011 You may do as you please, but I would recommend living on campus freshman year. That's where/when you make all of your friends. You will get very lonely living off campus with few friends.

  • @ventures58 Again, I encourage you to check out collegeboard . com and the university of Miami admissions page. Other than that, just check out what I wrote below.

Basically, there are a lot of criteria that admissions looks at, so each case is different.

If you have any more specific questions, feel free to ask. Otherwise, best of luck to you! =)

  • do you guys have to clean the bathroom, or do they have someone come clean it every week?

  • @LaxProductions9 Let me start by reiterating that these are not the freshman dorms. In this dorm (Pearson) and the other upper classmen dorms do not have people coming in to clean. The freshman dorms do though. But those are communal bathrooms. (Its really not as bad as it sounds, I promise.) The cleaning staff comes in and cleans those bathrooms every morning.

  • @sunset0220 This video is not of the freshman dorms. In the freshman towers you have one roommate and share a bathroom with the entire floor. Its really not as bad as it sounds, I promise. But you can pick your roommate but you can't put three in a room. The school won't let you, and the room is barely big enough for two, trust me.

  • @sunset0220 No worries. Lemme know if you have more questions or if you're coming back for another visit or w/e.

  • @sunset0220 Yup, I'm from Boca Raton (which is an hour away) and I live on campus.

  • @sunset0220 Yes, I do actually. She found your comment very amusing haha. But I have to ask, how did you get stuck between Kansas and Miami? That's like being stuck between buying a minivan or buying a Porsche. Nothing wrong with either, but usually if you're considering one, you don't consider the other.

  • @sunset0220 Haha, thanks... Did you apply for next year already?

  • Again, I'd say to check out college board and compare yourself. It's really hard to say because they consider a lot of different factors. I'm obviously not associated w/ the admissions department at all, so don't take what I say to heart at all.

To answer you question, I'd say you have a decent chance of getting in. It depends on those things, as well as your class rank and stuff. However, a 1650 on the SAT is somewhat below the average.

    Best of luck!

  • hey man, i go to a magnet school and my unweighted GPA is a 3.2 and my weighted GPA is a 3.824. do u think i have a pretty good chance of getting in if i have at least a 1650 on my SAT?

  • how hard is it to get into university of miami?

  • @RR0MER0 It get's harder every year, but its not impossibly by any means. It obviously depends on you as a student. It's a good school that requires a good GPA and SAT/ACT scores, but it isn't like the Ivy leaguers where you have to be perfect academically and basically cure cancer to get in.

You really should check out collegeboard . com. You can search for any school on there and compare them. I'll post some stats from that site in a second.

  • @RR0MER0 Actually, it won't let me copy and paste them w/ formatting, so it looks stupid.

Basically, 60% of incoming freshmen were in the top 10% of their graduating class, and 74% had a gpa of 3.75 or higher.

  • @ventures58 Yea, my suite-mate is in computer engineering. He says he really likes it and it is challenging but definitely applicable to life/ a job. Also, there are small class sizes in the engineering school and they require less general education classes (stupid, non-related classes).

  • umm im thinking of going here in the future:) could you tell me about the medical area:)...and is it alot of money for the dorms?.....plz and thanks for answering my questions:)

  • @Cecijhonnythunders It's about $6,500 per year to live on campus, so I wouldn't call it cheap. But that does include all utilities (water, power, cable, internet) and the dorms are short walks to all the different classes.

As far as the medical facilities, I'm not the person to ask. I'm in the business school. However, I know what we have a separate medical campus that is state of the art. I'd check out the website if you haven't already:

  • i live in cleveland but im actually considering this place for college im just a sophmore so i still have a few years ahead of me and a lot of options .. but i was wondering how is the engineering classes there?? only if u knew or knew somone else that took the classes

  • @brattty13 I'm not in engineering, but I have friends that are. They like it- but it's hard. Especially physics. I really can't help you much more than that as I don't have personal experience, sorry.

Let me know if you have any more questions and good luck!

  • @SADpandaKILLER hey thanks a lot :D

  • how big are freshmen dorms? i was thinking about UW when i was younger but once i spent a week in their dorms i didnt want to go there as much. It was the size of a walk in closet at most

  • @madchickenfilms yea, the freshemen dorms aren't very big. But both me and my roommate last year lofted our beds, so we had the same TV you see in this video under one bed and a small couch under the other bed. I would actually say I liked the layout of the freshmen dorms better than I like the layout of the dorm you see here in the video.

  • been thinking about applying to the Miami

  • @madchickenfilms There's no reason not to, especially if you're doing the common app anyways. Great education, great weather, great facilities... great everything really.

But just so you know, these are the upperclassman dorms. The freshmen dorms are different.

  • Its all about The U
