  • Thanks man, you helped me out a lot :D

  • go to amp turn treble all the way off, turn bass all the way up, EQ in the middle. rhythm pickup, turn tone knob all the way down to 0. now play that riff! xD

  • Another amazing lesson as usual. Thank you very much "Sir".

  • I agree. I have been learning a lot from Justin for last 3 years. He is just so professional and very passionate about the music and teaching it.

  • Actually the time signature is 7/8, Gilmour sad it in "The Dark Side of The Moon" film.

  • thanks boss for walking through it,helped alot.

  • Playing in 7/8 is a little easier if you count One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Sev rather than SEV-EN because if you count SEV-EN you've got two syllables and you're back in 4/4 rhythmically:) Replace SEVEN with SEV and it should be a little easier. Cheers, Gazza

  • it's easy , i can play this riff now :DDD thanks teacher !!!

  • hello,

you re lesson is very good, the picture is very clean, but u speak very too much :)

  • hola , soy de argentina. queria saber si podes enceñarme una cancion en particular es de un musico argentino muy bueno..

  • Hi, I'm from Argentina're a genius, you can cove me a specific song of an Argentine artist?

  • Hi, I'm from Argentina're a genius, you can cove me a specific song of an Argentine artist?

  • @123luchitoo the artist is called Skay Beilinson and the song is called Astrolabio..

  • i look forward to fridays..another brand new riff to learn!

  • thanks

  • I like hearing riffs only. what I don't learn too much of in song instruction is HOW the verse, intro, chorus are related to each other on a structural level. but that's really complicated...

  • These riff lessons are great. Please don't stop doing them. Adding "words" to your vocabulary is indispensable to growing as a player. But I don't have to tell you that.

  • OK, I hear you!

So each month I'm going to aim for one full hard song, 3 riffs and a few easy strummers. I hope that is good for everyone :)

You can vote for which full song I do first on my facebook page!

    facebook DOT com/pages/justinguitarcom/157863920899685

Isn't it stupid that they won't let me add links here??

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs Would be awesome if find that much time :) Thanks

  • I thumbed up both posts because whatever he does is pure awesomeness :D

  • Love your Licks & Riffs Series!!!

  • Man, this is a tough one as i love your full song explanations. That said i love riffs and if i have to choose it will probably be riffs as i'm confidant enough to transcribe the rest and will also give me a kick up the arse to do so. Cheers Justin, great work

  • I vote Riffs because the more lessons of any kind the better .

  • what kind of (top comb) do you use on your fender?

  • I have so much to say about how great all your lessons are, but let me just say this - these weekly riffs and licks have broken down a wall that I have been trying to break down on my own for two years now . I am learning to improvise, I am learning to play the instrument, and most importantly, playing is now really fun! I wouldn't say to focus on these and only these lessons, they don't have to be every week, but maybe half as much in each section, so you can also focus on other lesson ideas.

  • I've got an idea. AC/DC full lessons!!! Your "Shoot to Thrill" and "Shook me all Night Long" are the best two lessons on youtube!!!!

  • hey you should do something where people vote what song you should teach and do a vid lesson once a month

  • I like your riff lessons; you should do whatever makes you happier!

  • It's great to learn new riffs, but it's more beneficial to players to learn full songs in their entirety, People will gain much more from that.

  • Sorry Justin, I like the effort you put into each lesson and I certainly like this new concept of weekly riff, I would say make it go up to #20 and then start doing songs. But PLEASE don't stop the Weekly LICK. I learn a lot for my improvising with those small licks. You aren't going to stop those aren't you :-(

  • Most hypnotizing bass rhythm. And it's amazing because you can sing to it.

  • Justin, if you every have the time, please do the lesson you said you'd do on the string muting technique in Can't Stop by the Chili Peppers, I loved the other two lessons, Thanks!

  • I remember when this song came out in high school out in Los Angeles. Thanks for the fun lesson. Makes me think of the old days.

  • Man, I miss a good old bass riff in this songs nowadays =/

Seven Nation Army is not even played in the bass.

  • I like the riffs, it encourages more independent exploration.

I think the full songs are better for beginners but you already have quite a nice selection.

  • Full songs all the way, please.

  • What's that nut? i started to get buzzing coming from an old plastic nut on my gf's mim strat and yours looks to be a good solution!

  • just an idea? but maybe you could make a song lesson each 2 months and doing 3 riffs per month? the riffs could be a preparation to the next song?

but I'm ok with everything you do :-)

  • Hey Justin, I like the weekly riff lessons but also agree with others. It would be awesome if you could go back to the whole song lessons. I know your transcribing is always going to be dead on. And you make it so easy to follow along and learn. And as always, we can't thank u and show our appreciation enough. I know how time consuming all this is. And I promise dude, if I win the lotto I will share with you

  • I think that you should go back to doing full songs, just as simoncaron said - there are lots of lessons on riffs and not much good lessons on full songs.

Thanks for everything and cheers from Poland

PS. Money riff is truly awesome ;D

  • whatever you do is appreciated by me, great teacher, thanks

  • Hello Justin, I've been following you on Youtube for a while and you are a very good teacher. Personally, I think you should go back to doing full songs.

The reason behind that is: on Youtube, you can find a ton of lessons on any riff. But the full song approach is something people doesn't cover very much. It's always helpful to have a full lesson for the harder parts of the song. Sometime the bridge or the pre-chorus are harder to figure out and you nailed those parts for us.

    Thank you

  • I like being able to count on a new cool song every week...just my opinion.....DUDE YOU ARE THE MAN NO MATTER WHAT!! I like to Watch Justin's transcription once just for reference and then try and figure it out on my own. He's not lying It REALLY does help you to learn faster.

  • Justin, we all appreciate the effort you put into giving us an easier path to learning guitar. I personally like the full song lessons more, I learned Stairway to Heaven from your series and it impresses the hell out of people. Thanks for the lessons though.

  • I personally really like the Riffs, It's nice to see a cool riff on a regular basis to just pick up, where as learning a full song is a bit more extreme, so I think it's more flexible this way, but either way I could not complain and thanks very much for everything.

  • The full songs are much better! It's all good but the full songs are the best. Justin, you're a great human being! Be well!

  • count my vote for the complete/whole songs side, but either way I love all your lessons

  • PLEASE do whole songs! I wish you could do both riffs and songs, but i know you're a busy man.

  • You should do your whole songs Justin!!!

  • I hear string buzz! Fix your string buzz! :D

    Nice lesson!

  • @vdjn55 String buzzing is ok, if the buzzing sound doesn't go through the amp.

  • @flash14Ball It may be okay for you, but not for me! String buzz annoys the hell out of me! Even if it's only acoustically! XD

  • pls teach us the whole song

  • I think you should go back to whole songs

  • Thanks for everything Justin, you're beyond awesome!

  • @justin

Love the EMG DG20 Gilmour pick ups.

i Just bought them last month.

What do you think of them?

  • Justin PLEASE don't stop doing the weekly riffs - they brighten my weekend!

  • Hey Justin

Id really prefer the full songs instead of the riffs, the reason is that its pretty easy to find riffs on other websites, in tab form or in other videos.. I know its pretty easy to find tabs for full songs aswell, but it is alot harder to learn timing and everything for a full song than just for a riff, and because of that I think videos of full songs will be much more helpfull to most people.. Also you do some of the best video tutorials on the internet..

  • any specific reason as to why you are not using the B power chord shape initially?

  • I like the Riff of the week idea a lot, but I think it's a lot more useful for beginner guitar players. Experienced players can figure out the riffs for themselves. I don't know what post to give a thumbs up.

Why not ditch the 'of the week' and just upload riffs when you feel like it. Seems to me you're busy enough as it is ;)

  • Hey Justin,

I definitely prefer your full song lessons to the weekly riff sections, but i appreciate all the help you have given me over the past year. I wouldn't have been the same guitarist without your help! No matter what type of lessons you're making, ill listen to it!

Do you still do private lessons?

  • Thankyou SO much Justin! I've learnt a lot from you, can't thank you enough! You are teaching many of this new generation beautiful, beautiful songs. You have amazing taste in music, and are an absolutely brilliant guitarist! I thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping the incredible music alive, and teaching it to others! Rock on! Julia.

  • Hi Justin - Why not do a monthly riff? That way us novices can still get some encouragement by learning something that sounds cool and makes our practice sessions less repetitive. I personally like the weekly riffs but have to admit I only end up doing one a month, because of the time it takes me to nail it down! LOL. Please don't ditch it altogether. It's OK for these clever dickies, there's still a lot of us beginners out there who need all the encouragement we can get! ;-)

  • I Like the new Riff lessons and I pressed the Thumbs down button by mistake so discount that one. Keep 'em coming they are much appreciated.

  • Absolutely stay on with riffs and licks please ...

  • AWESOME JUSTIN!!!!

  • Please thumbs up THIS POST if you prefer me to go back to doing full songs and ditching the weekly riff idea all together - but knowing that doing full complex songs takes me a lot longer and I probably wouldn't get a new one up each week...

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs Maybe do 3 weekly riffs a month and one full song?

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs Hey Justin. You are doing a really impressive job and I appreciate every single note, but i would also like the whole songs again :-) ....Maybe "Romeo and Juliet" by Knopfler....??? :)

Thank you so much for your great effort!!!!!

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs Not before Ain't Talking 'bout Love. :D

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs

Tough call on this one - on one hand I love the weekly riffs. The detail is great (not a typical 90 second video playing the riff slowly) and it gives you a starting a point to learn the whole song on your own.

On the other hand the full songs provides me hours and hours of practise enjoyment (with some frustration thrown in for good measure).

Heck mate - please just keep doing some type of lessons!

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs Whoa, Justin...you got 270 thumbs up in around ten hours..i think thats enough votes to conclude that people like the full songs more..the other has only gotten 141...but i guess you could keep it up a couple more days...

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs To be honest i really like both :) I really like to learn a new riff almost every riff, but i also miss the full song lessons :) You should first release the lesson for a riff like this, and then later (Take your time to make both! :D) do the lesson for the full song (The same song as the riff comes from :D) ^^

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs its always nice to learn the whole song. but these riffs have been fun . maybe

you could fill in the gaps on the songs we already learned the riffs on.

    thanks laws1957

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs @JustinSandercoeSongs Your full songs lessons were wicked, best of the best here on the tube. It would be great to see them again. I just wish you won't get into troubles, like you did with the tabs :<

Cheers, your ex-translator ; p I've hooked up with Brendan a long time ago. Take care J.

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs

Justin, I am a very new beginner. I like that you have just riffs here, as well as doing whole songs. It helps someone who is just starting to learn, because I think its easier to learn things in small chunks.. Can you also consider teaching scales, what the scale patterns are, and how to best learn them? Please??

  • Please Thumbs up THIS POST if you think I should keep doing the Weekly Riff for the rest of the year - with some beginner songs coming after easter and some harder ones later in the year.

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs I remember that there was plan so that we could post back our vid of us playing ?

    Is this abandoned ?

That would be challenging and I'd really like to have such a way of collecting feedback ...

I'm justinguitar dependent, Your the best guitar teacher !

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs

I like the full songs but I can digest the licks much better and having them come more frequently is great.

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs I've personally found the Licks and Riffs coming every week to be extremely helpful. They're both digestible enough that I can easily work them into my weekly practice routine and have them polished and in the case of the licks applied in a meaningful context so they make sense by the end of the week. I've found they also push me to learn the odd technique I've not come across or mastered in format that's not a mindless exercise.

I'd really hate to see them go.

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs lol...sorry thumb uped by mistake !! u might wana do -1 from d final tally !!

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs I really like the weekly riffs, but I can appriciate how everything takes time, and the longer more complete song lessons are also really good. Perhaps only do a riff every two weeks, or even monthly? Or maybe don't do a riff in the week(s) that you film a complete song lesson?

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs I think more variety in the riffs would be helpful. Most of the stuff you done so far is all classic rock-ish. Maybe more modern or eclectic riffs would do. Also, most of the riffs you've done are pretty easy and can be learned with just tab. Some harder shit would be nice. Another vid on odd time signatures would be great too, as your one of about three competent guitar players on youtube.

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs Riff on dude!

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs Please keep right on with the riffs and licks. I kind of think of them as dessert after all the regular (work) of practicing. It sounds like you have a solid game plan for beginner and advanced songs for later on in the year. We can wait until then for full songs. Like there aren't enough of them for free already on you site. Thanks for all that you do JS! (^_^)

  • a bit of both, but mostly songs

  • Nice one Justin, this is one of my favorite songs :)

  • would you be able to keep doing the riffs and a song every now and then? keep up the awesome work :)

  • Yo Justin What about a few Metallica riffs?

  • The time signature is not 7/4 but 7/8. Not the same thing.

  • im sick of ur new riff sesion....i liked much more when u singed and posted songs we can learn to perform just like u do on the video..still love u though cheers

  • @AKESEBA I have a Beginners Songbook coming out in a couple of months and will be doing vid lessons for many of the songs in that. Then will be the Intermediate level book and songs from thatlater in the year - but I can only do so much... with licks, riffs and trying to get the Intermediate Style Modules written, filmed, edited and the web pages done... as well as trying to get better on guitar myself - I don't have more time.

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs Im aware these riff sessions are result of ur love to ur audience and lack of ur time in a attempt to provide it with consistent cotent. I like the idea of thumbs up, i personally liked the first one..i dont care if u cant upload for weeks. I love ur videos that give ideas of nice songs and how to play them in full, specially acoustic ones. Still its just me..whatever gets voted more ur still be one of best tube teachers <3

  • @AKESEBA but you should improve your guitar , and start learning riffs. Justin already has provided us with lots of great acoustic tunes.

  • @MrTYTOVAN not all users will like AC/DC. I like the variety that Justin teaches, there is something there for everyone

  • @datrandomguyuknow You are right!

  • are those lace sensors by any chance?
