haha, a lot of people compare this game with DA: Origins, put it like this, I bought DA:O and found the universe gripping but the gameplay bored me after a bit, I bought The Witcher and just couldnt stop playing. It feels like one of the longest games i've ever played but im considering playing through it again. I've never played through a game of this length through more than once. Think next time though i'll get the Polish language pack w/ Eng subtitles though. Just to do Sapkowski justice

@twoandahalfguys I only read The Last Wish in my native language so my opinion would feel kinda biased :C. They're both great anyway, one being a novel and one being a collection of short stories. Dunno what I prefer most TBH, prolly the novels anyway.

Yes, that is kind of a bad idea, but they managed to pull it off.

At least I think so.

Although the original material (Sapkowski's books) is much better, the game holds up surprisingly good for an adaptation, don't you think?

As for the books, I was literally depressed after the second volume of "The Lady of the Lake".

But I guess that's just another attestation of exactly how good Sapkowski is.

No "Happily ever after"s and no magical, unexplained survivals.

Ye, i nearly collapsed after reading " lady of the lake "

i just wasnt able to believe that everyone died ( Milva, Cahir, Regis & Co. ) And then, Ciri would be forced to marry this Prince guy and her last wish was to see geralt for a last time, but right @ her arrival he died while fighting for the rights of the surpressed dwarfs and elves. He survived so many deadly things, and at leats the pitchfork of a stranger killed him! :(

Yeah..That was the worst part.

It was really painful, especially how Yen was trying her best to revive him and Triss, knowing it was useless, but not wanting to hurt her didn't know what to do..That was just too sad.

Do you think the whole unicorn thing ever happened, though? Did it really come?

Also, I loved Regis and Milva so much, they were really great characters.

Same for Cahir.

After "Baptism by Fire", he became one of my favourite characters in the books in general.

I think as Ciri saw her " parents " die, she made a decision. As you know, she was able to manipulate space and time, so maybe she brought Geralt and Yennefer to a silent, peaceful place for them to die. Furthermore, i red somewhere that this Island were a sacred place, so i suggest their spirits can live together in happyness, without war, pain and betrayal forever. but that's just my opinion because i WANT this to end at leats a bit happy for them.^^

I played witcher on medium graphic and then DA on the highest and i think they were equal .

btw i looked a bit closer to mony things and they looked sharp to me .

The witcher's atmosphere is the best I've ever seen in a RPG game.  All of the games you've listed are all great in their own right but compared to the witcher's immersive atmosphere and storytelling they are easily outshined.

It's not a bad game. But it just feels like such a sloppy rushed job after everything else I've played. Fallout 3 sort of has the same issues. Not a bad game, just disappointing knowing what it's pedigree was capable of.

Or that they couldn't be assed to get it right the first time. Just stuff like the animations, the graphics, seriously uncanny valley, the levelling system, the storyline felt a bit old. It felt like a game, not an experience. All the individual parts were alright, but I just didn't feel as grabbed by it as I did by stuff like BG, System Shock, The Witcher, or the original fallouts.

Yeah, i think that's partially what killed the Halo Franchise. Just feels like shovelware after the first one. At least BC2 did some interesting things with multiplayer, even if the singleplayer was a big letdown.

I know, those stuff is already in other games (like monster hutner), but the story and making choices is good, and if combat is good, the game is amazing. The game is simply epic. Unfortunately the word 'epic' is nowadays overused so it doesn't fully describe how good the witcher is!!

P.S. The whole soundtrack is amazing! Each track has a great atmosphere! The main manu music is better imo. (not on the soundtrack;/) - maybe I got to like it due to very long loading time before the patch ;]

The "stupid audio-visual consumer syndrome", I'd call that. Books will often leave you with enough hints, but you'll still have that slight doubt that makes it all so cool.

I also remember watching the Watchmen film. There is this major spoiler which in the comic is implied but is never actually stated, and when a character suddenly breaks into tears, YOU realize that it is true! But in the movie, just after she starts crying, ANOTHER character has to state the obvious. Gee, thanks, Sherlock.
