I have this laptop, unfortunately it's motherboard got fried :( it's only been 10 months since i got it, but i am not in the us where i bought it so i don't have warranty, and i am stuck with a $2200 8Kg piece of plastic :'(

My tip is not to buy an expencive laptop due to high repair costs, you'd never get half the performance of a good desktop, if i'd buy a laptop now I'd choose a cheap and light laptop, and a really good desktop to compensate

That's bad to hear man, I was worried about mine going down soon since it was getting extremely hot and would shut down from heat. I found out it's just dust in there given how the fans suck air in, a lot of dust can get in there over a week even. I cleaned it out with some air, made sure nothings near the back grill and the fan intakes on the bottom and it runs cool as new now.

You're totally right on performance about a desktop tho

After I flying to one of the few countries covered by the international guarranty, and having my motherboard, graphiccard and keyboard replaced by refubrished parts, the problem was on the Ageia PhysX physics processing unit. My laptop was left with the refurbrished parts that were wrongfully replaced in an attempt to locate the problem. I didn't renew the guarranty beacause It doesn't cover my country, but If u are lucky to live in the 52 countries covered u could buy it and get a 3 year warran

My 2cents Find the best laptop you can buy for less than $650, and make sure it has good ventilation

This Laptop is at the top of the list of performance and graphics. Yes it has a small battery life but think of all the juice its using. Its a portable desktop. I Just ordered mine for animation and I think this laptop will complete my requirements. In the end this laptop pwns all other performance and graphics laptops.

its the other way around alienware is dell now. and yes ive heard them about stopping some of their xps models because it is cutting into alienwares sales pretty much killng it. dell didnt buy alienware to eliminate it :D

Getting one of these is not a good idea for college, the batery length alone only lets u play for 1 hr and 45 min.

There is no way that it was only 2g. A Dual 8800 alone is like 1g. Duo Extreme is like

$700.

The Stock M1730 are 2g but this one is upgraded in just about everything. I think he spent 4g.

$2799 for the 87000m version. Don't bother with the 8700m's, they are not very capable. I got one with the SLI 8800m GTX's and with tweaking they certainly perform ok.

yeah. i ended up buying the 8800 gtx's because dell had 15% off!!! so it ended up around $3000 (i got the bag too, and some other stuff - so...). it's pretty darn good value.

dell might of changed the leds somewhere in production im guessin, mine is pretty much white too and u really cant see anything i feel. wish the keys illuminated a little more.
