The days with seagate have come to an end for me. I've been using harddrives since 1984 and seagate have been the leader until they bought Maxtor,then it went downhill.

Warranty was 5 years for all drives before but now its reduced to 2 years.

Its horrible to learn that seagate fails to correct peoples RMA's. Sometimes charging 20 euro for sending back a faulty drive.

Never buy a Seagate, go with WD or Samsung. Even if you find a Seagate on sale think of the hassle of losing data and bad RMA.

Anecdotal evidence is not objective evidence. I could also, and have, found hundreds of forums of people having problems with Western Digital Hard Drives. The fact of the matter is that the Seagate Barracuda does not have a widespread issue regarding them dying, but rather an issue with the firmware, which would make it unusable until you updated it. This firmware issue was mostly present in the 7200.11 series, and has been resolved in the 7200.12 series. The 12 series is just as reliable.

I recommend Hitachi, from my experience, great disks and silent, never and I have 2 3.5 and 3 2.5's.

Apple laptops come with hitachis.

Don't buy Maxtor either, right now I'm trying to fix one, it has a high frequency sound that is disturbing, and would be a Seagate subcompany.

The 7200.11 series tend to fail a lot. Mine lasted for about 4 months. Now I have a 7200.12 which is the fastest in the Barracuda series. Do NOT buy the 7200.11 unless Seagate fixes the bugs!

if your laptop has only sata 150, then it will be slower... but if only the hard drive has sata 150, that means not that you can only run sata-150... but normaly a sata-150 hard drivge works on sata-150, too (at some hard drives you can choose if you have a sata-150 or a sata-300 controller)
