They fought and died so that we can fill out a bunch of forms just to get back a percentage of our money and let the Politicians keep the rest. Oh, wait. I think it was for the opposite reason. Damn liberals and neocons. Paul 2012.
@DaytonaRoadster The war against southern independence was all about money. Lincoln campaigned on redistribution of wealth from the wealthy south to new england. When lincoln won the presidency without a single vote from South Carolina we decided to leave the union.
The federals said to themselves, thats ok, as long as we control Fort Sumter we can still tax 35% on every good leaving or entering Charleston.
So we kicked the feds out our fort without a single death on either side.
@DaytonaRoadster Thats simply not true. The fact is 6 union states had slavery before, during, and after the war(NJ, MD, DL, WV, KY, MI)Dishonest abe's "emancipation proclimation" didnt come around till over 2 years after the war started and it only applied to "sites of rebellion" and it even went as far as to make slavery legal again in any rebel state or county that returned to the union. So common sense tells us if Dixie's goal was to keep slavery we would have rejoined the union at that time.
@803honda To be fair, NEITHER army was fighting for freedom. The South still had slaves, and there was a lot of (what would later be called) fascist economic polices (which is why they lost - no free market). The North, under Lincoln, virtually eviscerated the Constitution as well, all in the name of Union, so you can't really point to one side as "right". They were both horribly, horribly wrong. Too bad only the South is accurately represented (mostly....).
@mtanousable ...that is the equivalent of saying neither South Carolina nor Great Britan were fighting for freedom in 1770s. They were both horribly, horribly wrong.
If past slavery makes past secession wrong then I guess the only right thing for us to do is return all 13 original colonies to British control.
@803honda I merely claimed that the South was not "more right" than the North - not that they should be blamed for the war. I claim this based on their anti-freedom actions taken during the war - things that today we would call fascist. I have never claimed secession was wrong. The idea of consent of the governed does not disappear because of moral errors in seceding territory. Perfect protection of liberty has never existed, even in the US.
The theme song of the 'Occupy' movement is Anthem of the Working Man by The 99%. In the tradition of Simon & Garfunkel and Dylan, the song explores the growing divide between the very rich and the rest of us -- as well as the Animal Farm premise that they can tell us anything they want to tell us -- and we continue to believe them.

@rbarbier we are not being taxed to death but the video is right on. No economic boom, rights taken from the Patriot Act to TSA regulations, I can go on and on. I guess the opponent's argument could be that at least we're not Zimbabwe. But that's about it.
and taxes so what. go live in any other country and pay higher taxes. i'm currently stationed overseas. i would not choose to live in this "1st" world country. stupid video Remy, Saturday night live is better.
the libertarian movement and the obama political campaign are the same, all hype with little to no results. just a flash in the pan. i'm a conservative and i fight for my country every day and proud of it. and i support tsa at the air ports. and by the way the machine is no more than an x-ray there are no pictures taken. oh and four loco give me a break like one less beverage is going to make a difference. who cares.
@MrWildmoney1 Are you pleased that the Communist who posted a comment just below yours seems to agree with you? Well you should be pleased, because both you and the Commies love the state and lick the boots of authority every single day. And you both fear and hate individual liberty.
@videolung well next time we need some one on the front line i'll put your name down. its a whole different world out there once you get out of suburbia. and you realize there are bigger things at stake than your caffeinated beer. i don't deny the government needs to be reshaped. but once you've been a way from home for as long as i have and some of my brothers have. you care less about the petty things. you just want to come home. no i respectfully disagree with you but i understand
Now, don't get me wrong. I LOVE Remy and all of they stuff he does on YouTube and I agree with most of the things he brought up in this video. However, I have to draw the line on taxation. In America, we relatively low taxes compared to the rest of the world. The taxes we all pay go to so many different and necessarily things that allow us to operate as a society. I'm all for cutting back on wasteful spending and the amount we pay these bureaucrats in government, but come on!
@BeatlesAndRedskins I don't know if it so much about amount as method. Getting audited because you can't figure out a 16,000 page tax code that even IRS employees don't fully know is not the American way. Taxes are also not a political ploy. Flat tax. You pay in for what you buy
@BeatlesAndRedskins What? What? What? "low taxes"? 100 dollar hammers for the Pentagon. Billions to black farmers that have never farmed, to ethanol subsidies for fuel that pollutes more than gas, paying for cowboy poets and urban artists, tobacco subsidies while paying for non-smoking ads, corporate welfare (GE paid 0 in taxes & got bailouts), bike paths, studies of cow farts, billions in medicaid fraud. drug addicts and alcoholics on disability. Yea right "so many...necessarily things"
@wmhoad Yes, of course. What you mentioned is all our taxes pay for. Its not like our taxes go to education, or police, or fire departments, or social security, or medicare, or transportation, or all the other very important things the revenue actually goes to. Apparently you didn't read the part where I blatantly stated a need to cut back on wasteful spending.
@BeatlesAndRedskins Low taxes? Not really. I hear this a lot for some reason. I guess the confusion comes from the fact that the United States has a federal system and not a unitary system. If you add up federal, state, and local taxes the US is more or less on par with places like Switzerland(which also has a tricky federal system), the UK, Scandinavia, and France. Of course it varies from state to state. Some will pay more, some will pay less. Yet overall it's about the same.
..a moon advice: stop telling yourself that there is something terribly wrong in the world, stop competing among each others to see which one of you says it better..time to act..to put your money where your mouth is..don't pay your taxes..don't surrender your homes to banks..

@damenbrazen I think you're missing the point of the song. Our so called "leaders" are too busy butting into other countries business and sending our soldeirs to fight in civil wars of OTHER countries, to adequately manage the one they were elected in, or even listen to the people who elected them, giving TRILLIONS away in "foreign aide" to about 150 countries, some of which openly hate America, and despite the last election the dems CONITNUE to ignore us. Is that what our soldeirs died for?
Oh this is wonderful. Where Johnny Horton celebrated the days when America was sane, Remy sings odes to the days when insanity has set in. Wake up America PLEASE!!
I did my own taxes for years even when I had businesses. Then I started using Turbotax, but finally gave up on even that when I had to deal with inheritance, trusts, and royalty income. Now I use a tax service and pay $180. This is ridiculous! I think all members of Congress should have to set up a business, run it for 5 years, sell it, and do all the taxes and relate bookkeeping without the aid of an accountant and see what they foist on us.
They fought and died so that we can speak our political minds without some self-righteous politician putting us in a labor camp to rot just because we didn't agree with him/her on every little thing. I understand that government has been undermining many personal and economic freedoms and making life unnecessarily harder for us but at least we can openly criticize public policies and suggest alternatives without incarceration or execution unlike in places such as North Korea.
@Infantry9 Now if we speak our political minds we on are labeled "hete mongers, racist, nazi's,ect. ect and are put on a no fly list for fear of us being a domestic terrorist. And if you speak out enough they will find a way to make you shut up and go away. The US has the largest prison population on earth and we still consider ourselves "Free". There is not one facet of our lives that is not regulated Poeple need to read the WHOLE declaration to find out why they fought (the list of greavances)
There are problems in the US involving excessive and inefficient regulation and I have implied such issues exist. I'm also aware there are self-righteous individuals who want to destroy free speech but as long as we speak out against them, we vote, and our military truly stands by the Constitution, they will not destroy us or our right. The reason for the big prison population has to do with all the criminals that get caught. Unlike places like China, we don't imprison dissenters.
@Infantry9 I was speaking more apon the non-military.The TSA,police and other government agencys. The politicians are trying slowly to incorperate some military branches into policing the citizens of the US, But as for now people who dissagree with the government have tocontend with fellow citizens and certain agencys that would like to supress that right (FCC,and various others) buy passing laws and regulations. My point being the declaration had a list of greavances that are now back in force
I won't argue with that. I agree that many in government have gone too far. It's one thing for them to pass a restraint that prevents someone from harming an involuntary innocent but it's another when they pass a restrain that undermines the personal and economic freedoms of decent, honest individuals.
@Infantry9 With the new vague laws reguarding "domestic terrorism" and the now accepted "indefinate incarceration" we are well on our way to the supression of speech. The government has reinstituted the same greavances that were listed in the declaration of independence and when a citizen does complain they are supressed by fellow citizens for the moment, but with the dissenters of the curr system becoming the minority the freedom of speech could well be supressed with the consent of the masses
they fought and died so we could get a new king every 4-8 year, so we could have dukes and earls debate on how we should live, and even if we disagree it wont stop them from making us comply, that's why they fought and died
@surrealnumber You know voting one in every 4-8 years is like what makes him not a king, like i get what your saying its just, how your saying it dosent make sense.
@surrealnumber Its like if someone says to me, eehh you walk around like your a king or something, that would be alright because one of my major defining characteristics is not something that seperates me from king, like if I had been demoractically elected to a position of authority and not through some birth right.
@surrealnumber Basically, like what im saying is with the powers they wield they are exactly the same, and only differ in the time frame your pointing out, so its like too close to be a joke, so its just becomes inaccurate if you get what i am saying.
they fought and died so we could have control grids with a street view - that alerts the fusion centers when your poodle takes a poo.. And if you asked them why they fought and died the'yd tell you the same thing...
So you'd have your water flouridated and poisoned with benzene...

"Today we need a nation of minute men; citizens who are not only prepared to take up arms,
but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as a basic purpose of their daily life
and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom.
The cause of liberty, the cause of American, cannot succeed with any lesser effort."
- President John F. Kennedy, January 29, 1961

Infantry9 11 months ago 3
@Infantry9 Now if we speak our political minds we on are labeled "hete mongers, racist, nazi's,ect. ect and are put on a no fly list for fear of us being a domestic terrorist. And if you speak out enough they will find a way to make you shut up and go away. The US has the largest prison population on earth and we still consider ourselves "Free". There is not one facet of our lives that is not regulated Poeple need to read the WHOLE declaration to find out why they fought (the list of greavances)
TheStrazy 11 months ago
@TheStrazy

TheStrazy 11 months ago
@TheStrazy
I won't argue with that. I agree that many in government have gone too far. It's one thing for them to pass a restraint that prevents someone from harming an involuntary innocent but it's another when they pass a restrain that undermines the personal and economic freedoms of decent, honest individuals.
Infantry9 11 months ago
@Infantry9 With the new vague laws reguarding "domestic terrorism" and the now accepted "indefinate incarceration" we are well on our way to the supression of speech. The government has reinstituted the same greavances that were listed in the declaration of independence and when a citizen does complain they are supressed by fellow citizens for the moment, but with the dissenters of the curr system becoming the minority the freedom of speech could well be supressed with the consent of the masses
TheStrazy 11 months ago
@Infantry9
Yeah, but in America, our standards of freedom are much higher. never settle.

they fought and died so we could get a new king every 4-8 year, so we could have dukes and earls debate on how we should live, and even if we disagree it wont stop them from making us comply, that's why they fought and died
surrealnumber 11 months ago 86
@surrealnumber You know voting one in every 4-8 years is like what makes him not a king, like i get what your saying its just, how your saying it dosent make sense.
bobbaz2401 11 months ago
@surrealnumber Its like if someone says to me, eehh you walk around like your a king or something, that would be alright because one of my major defining characteristics is not something that seperates me from king, like if I had been demoractically elected to a position of authority and not through some birth right.
bobbaz2401 11 months ago
@surrealnumber Basically, like what im saying is with the powers they wield they are exactly the same, and only differ in the time frame your pointing out, so its like too close to be a joke, so its just becomes inaccurate if you get what i am saying.
