@fruitsandpi The "hypocenter" is where the bomb actually exploded. It was set to explode while still in the air above its target, maximizing damage. "Hypo" meaning "above," and "center" of course means area. Hypocenter is similar to an earthquake's "epicenter," except one is above ground, the other below. The bomb actually exploded about 1,000 feet (figures vary) above the intended target, but was one mile away (approximately) from Sadako Sasaki's home.
Her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Sasaki, took her the the hospital, and she found out she had the Atom Bomb disease - Leukemia - and she had to stay in the hospital for a while, her best friend had reminded her of a tale, she said, "If you fold 1,00 paper cranes, the gods will grant you a wish, and so she started to fold, and fold, and fold. She got to I think 644? And she finally died, her class made the rest of the cranes to get to 1,000 to get buried with her, and now everyone remembers...
Her story is that she was a young 12 year old girl who lived to be a runner, and one day there was a carnival called Peace Day, or Memorial Day, and it was to remember those who died from the Atom Bomb we sent to Japan to stop WW2. Well after the peace day, she got chosen to be in the race at her school, when she finished she started getting dizzy, and it kept happening after a long run, she decided to keep a secret, and not even tell her best friend. One day she got very dizzy and fell.........
