I kind of like the idea of a post apocalyptic society, but then I realize that I do not own firearms nor superpowers, which kind of makes it a little unappealing... Would be pretty bad ass wrecking a zombie's face with an electric guitar. Naturally, given that these suddenly spawned into existence along with other fictional beings - dragons, gods etc.
Zombies do not exist from what we know. However, they do have some sort of bio-weapon that pretty much has the same affect: making you hungry all the time, cannibalization, etc. at least theoretically, but even if they didn't it, the idea is very well within realistic boundaries. I would love to see one, of course, if it was like Shawn of the Dead and such. Society has really started to stagnate from what I've seen, so this would at least make something interesting happen.

Well, not really. The opportunity cost that results from the time and resource expenditures that come with farming your own food are actually pretty high. It takes a lot of time, effort, and non-monetary resources to farm food, as farming is quite inefficient when done on a small scale. That time could otherwise be spent getting an education and then using what you learned to improve society. That way, your accomplishments outlive you.

It can be very meaningful to not rely on a support structure outside a sustainable existence. As I am on the internet it is pretty clear I am not living this way, yet. I have money, yes I know how to use money, which will not be spent on a car or a boat or a new suit so I get that office job. It's going towards a patch of dirt I can call mine. Well, not really. The opportunity cost that results from the time and resource expenditures that come with farming your own food are actually pretty high. It takes a lot of time, effort, and non-monetary resources to farm food, as farming is quite inefficient when done on a small scale. That time could otherwise be spent getting an education and then using what you learned to improve society. That way, your accomplishments outlive you.
