Both my Grandfather and Grandmother WWII; Grandfather WWII and Korea; US NAVY Weigh the anchor and over the sea; With nerves of steel sail on, and let God be with thee!!!!
my grandfather who served in the Navy during the end of WWII and the Korean war passed away today. My him and the many others who served their country rest in peace.
When you use your army to attack to an innocent country, you're a terrorist. I'm not pacifist, (we have military service in Finland) I will go to army and fight for my country if someone attacks us, but if my country will attack to an innocent country, I will go to jail before than kill innocent people.
@ssgkillsuall U.S. wasn't attacked by Iraq or Afghanistan, it was attacked by terrorists. Bush sent U.S. troops to Iraq with excuse of mass destruction weapons. There was no weapons and even the leader of 9/11 attacks was founded in another country, witch was ally of USA! Over 100,000, +nearly 5,000 American soldiers, innocent civilians died because that "mistake" Bush made.
@Kaalifornia There is a difference between us intervening in conflicts, and correcting misconceptions and blatant attempts at destroying the United State's image. A lot of the hate for the United States stems from our unwanted interventions. However, what people fail to realize is that the small conflicts we cause, pale in comparison to the major conflicts we prevent. It's a hard claim to back up, but when the United States minded our own business, there were two World Wars. Coincidence?
Hal and I attended The Sullivans DD537 Reunion in Waterloo IA from 9/21 to 9/25/2011. It was our first attendance to the 24th reunion. What a wonderful experience... We met two vets that commissioned the ship in 1943. We also met another vet that recommissioned the ship in the 50's. For those who are not familiar with how the ship got it's name, it was named after the five Sullivan Brothers who died in 1942 at the Battle of Guadalcanal on the USS Juno. For all the vets we met... Thank you
Nobody seems to play it as well as an official Navy band during an admirals change of command ceremony. The fife'll make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and your chest buttons strain a little more.
NAVY ALL THE WAY. USS Cushing (DD-985) The last of the Spruance Class destroyers to have served, I served frim 1990-93 on board that fine old girl, and served in the reserves from 1993-96.
Happy 4th of July to all the men & women of the U.S navy & to all the ships & sea. Keep on protecting our freedom & keep on kicking ass boys. I am proud to have served with the Navy.
30 years... 1997 - 2007. Sigh... Would not trade a single moment for anything else. And yes, the sailors today are as good as ever. "GOD doesn't make em any better". I sleep well at night knowing they are on "watch".
@thebastardnerd1337 me either, though I still have to wait another year. Just finished up my junior year in high school :D One more year, and I can follow in my dads footsteps.
@kanasio13 Good luck to you! I'm signing my contract next month and I can't wait for it lol. I'm gonna' enlist as master at arms but I wanna' try for SEALs after I ger some experience under my belt. How about you? considering any specific career fields?
@1TimboReno Forgive my ignorance, but what rank will she have when she enlists? I really don't know US Navy ranks. And does she know what ship she'll serve aboard yet?
@humoronwheels87 I just got done getting in the Navy myself, I enlisted in 05052011. Well in paygrade rank she will be an E-1 depending on if she got 2 or more referrals before getting shipped off. From what I hear you don't find out what ship you'll be on till after rotc training which is basically in simple terms basic training. Which for me it will be 9 weeks.. The physical part is always 7 weeks and depending on your job that adds on for training.
@Drlowvoice The way my sister explained it to me was she joined into the delayed entry program spring of 2010. The day before she left is when she signed the contract for 8 years of service. So in theory she wasn't truly enlisted until the day before she left.
@nsorady The first time you go to MEPS for your physical you enroll in to the delayed entry program. When you go to MEPS for your final physical and ship out to basic training is when you will swear in as a Navy recruit and are truly enlisted in the Navy before that you will be in the delayed entry program.(This is how she explained it to me, so if there are any mistakes sorry)
@1TimboReno I'm proud to be a sister of my brother who is also up there in The Great Lakes! let's hope they somehow meet each other :3 he's in A school. Graduated in March, so i got to see him a b-day present~(as for missing him A LOT.)
there is only one god he up in heaven, and those who think they are the next best thing up in officers country. then theres the real men the Chiefs and the Petty Officers who keep the ship running . God bless all who sail and keep us safe.
@TanaiyaT LOL! Would you believe that I live right up the road from GLRTC and I see these kids when I go shopping at Gurnee Mills who look like the biggest bunch of cluster fucks in this world. You can take this sailor out of the Navy, but you cannot take the Navy out of this sailor. They'll walk around inside with their covers on, and I'll follow up behind and snatch their shit up fast like a ninja! lol What was your rate? I was GOD a.k.a. Boatswains Mate. :-D
this IS NOT the official song of the USN - it IS the Naval Academy fight song. Although, efforts are underway to have Congress make it official, and it is quite frequently associated with the USN it hasn't been made official yet . The official USN hymn is "Eternal Father"

Anchors Aweigh, my boys, Anchors Aweigh.

Until we meet once more. Here's wishing you a happy voyage home!
