Sarah Brightman is the only Christine I have heard so far that can handle ALL the songs beautifully. I mean, other Christine maybe good at this song or that song (I do prefer Emmy Rossum's rendition of Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again), but they cannot handle well all the parts during the show.

Sarah Brightman may not be an AMAZING actress, but this is a very interesting interpretation of PONR. She plays it more as if she's frightened to even take part in the opera. And as the Phantom is dragging her across the stage, she realizes that it's him - and so she's now wondering 'why is he doing this'?

It doesn't work nowadays, but it's a different and interesting interpretation to think about.

Just because something is WRITTEN for a person doesn't mean they'll do a good job. She is a terrible performer and her voice grates on my ears. Seriously: her tone is awful, she sings in the back of her throat so it sounds like there is a bubble of phlegm there, and if you listen on the "I Remember..." track on the original recording, SHE IS COMPLETELY OFF KEY.

Non non non, mademoiselle. Yes, it is true that is was written for her and that is rad. Good for ALW and Sarah. However, I do not like her voice. I think that there have been other performers since that have been far better suited for the role.

You also forget that she was ENGAGED to the writer/composer at the time, so that may have had a teeny-weeny-little bit to do with it.

I will agree that she has a phenomenal range. However, she sings somewhere in her nasal cavity/back of her throat, her vibrato is too heavy -- I can't tell what note she's trying to sing half the time -- and if I didn't have the words to this show memorized I am quite sure that I would be unable to understand a word she is saying.

So, go ahead and disagree with me. I still will hate her voice.
