What's the name of the Slow Air? I know Shotts have pulled some Coldplay in there before, and it sounds an awful lot like "To Kingdom Come" to me! Brilliant Medley regardless. I love it, cheese and all. :)
Also Chunk, saw the turn first hand again at Cowal (where we were 2nd equal and won the drumming!!) and what it does is make the sound bigger at the end. Cheesy, but clever!
Shotts always lead the way. Now watch the others copy them! I wonder who will be brave enough to includes quads in the corps? Maybe two or more Bass drums all of a different size? We shall see.
But seriously. Every single time anyone questions anything about the RSPBA or one little thing a pipe band does, everyone else's response every time is "So what G1 band do you play in?" Why does someone HAVE to play in a G1 band just to have an opinion? Stupid.
Now I wouldn't turn myself, but what it has done is to get people talking about them. Same with the tenor drummer with the hose. Could have done it with all tenors. Poeple talking about it.
Not in with the cheese, but good to have the balls to do it. Toronto's medley absoulutely rocks! NOT It's the worst thing I've ever heard! Sounds like one big shite exercise in bad harmonies. The only good thing about it is the end when the noise has stopped!!! Ha
Totally wrong about the tenors. The 'tube effect' was played over 4 bars with a total of 12 strikes being played over a full octave. Now I count only 7 tenor drummers, so how could the same effect have been acheived with 7 drums? Over to you...
Fair enough, but I'm right about them just doing it for show. They could have created a "similar effect" with thier 7 Tenors and Bass. Like I said, at least they had the balls to do something different.
I like to see the top grade 1 bands "push the envelope" so to speak. SOme ideas will result in an evolutionary jump in the idiom, and some won't work. But good for them for having an original idea and having the guts to try it. But:
****DISCLAIMER*******
To all grade 4 bands...DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!!!!

Looks like pipe band have gone!! drum corps style thats DCI for anyone that knows!!
In drum corps (DCI) bands they have from around 5 to 10 Bass drummers, as Tyler Fry is from a DCI band looks like his got his foot and changed Pipe Bands!!!!!!!!!
And for those whom don't know DCI stle band KILLED British style bands.
And after watching that they turn around while in the circle looks like they have 100% gone DCI style .
SHOTT!! I just hope you have NOT killed pipe bands!!

I'm sorry McArthur, you play with whom? (Note the proper use of the word 'whom') I'm sure you're there strictly by choice after turning down Matheson's personal invitation.

Dude, you are a complete bell end. Tyler Fry is not from a DCI band. What Shotts did was refreshing, and the sound was immense when the band turned to face their audience. Maybe you should have the Pride of Murray try this. Or get SLOT to do it when you join them. By the way, Tyler Fry is good friends with the guys in SLOT. You probably shouldn't bash him on a public forum.

How can you claim this, and use the term "DCI 'Band'"?
What eejit would not know that DCI is Drum and Bugle Corps? NOT Bands.
And don't even draw a breath to say "No Difference" It's night n day.
So, Basically, you blew any cred you may have had in your opening sentence.
Did you not notice the sound improve when the band turned around?
Were you aware of the controversy last year when the BBC asked for rule changes to make the TV more interesting? Shotts just made things more interesting!

I've never been thier biggest fan, even had mates that played for them, but that was one of the best medleys they've played.
Well done for having the balls to do what you did in last tune too.
