I know, but it's ironic that the majority of the cast in VF series actually use Chinese martial arts, even the main character Akira, uses Baji Quan, which is exclusively of Chinese origin.
fun as these sound effects are though, nothing beats Fight Night Round 4's "echo punch." Although extremely hard to do, and I'm only able to do them when I'm on a roll, on a good night, if you can throw a haymaker to the head as a counter, immediately after dodging, the blow makes an "echo" sound, and the crowd falls silent. The "echo punch" sounds like someone droped a bag of cement in the middle fo the grand canyon.
@ fasterthansound, as far as 3D fighting games go, I prefer the Virtua Fighter series to Tekken, and feel that games like DoA and Soul Calibur cater too much to button mashers and lack depth (though DoA4 does feature in the WCG).

Akira's fighting style forces the player to play defensively; there really is no other way to play as Akira, that is what makes him dangerous. An Akira exper, forced by the style will have an impregnable defense, but, once the character starts lobbing those bombs, its over. Lei Fei only won, because hey, he's Shaolin come on....
Akira's combos are very predictable once you know them. Because Akira's moveset is so complex, players of this character tend not to 'mix it up' too much, compared to other characters such as Cage and Lion.
they are predictable only if you play agressively; played from a "counter attack" strategy, having analyzed Akira's moveset, he's almost unfairly strong compared to the other characters, thing is, only an expert can properly handle the character at higher difficulties.
An expert handling Akira at the higher levels to be more effective is true of any character. Is Akira unfairly strong? Maybe. But he does have flaws that make him balanced out. A somewhat good player with a 'quick' character will open up Akira's weaknesses and 'own' him, to put it simply.
with the exception of Pai Chan, no other character in this game has reversals; in the hands of an expert, don't you get it? ITS IMPOSSIBLE to ever land a clean blow on Akira because of all those stupid reversal moves they gave him! You know, back on the joystick or analog punch plus kick, at just the right moment, does a reversal move. Computer doesn't do it on normal, but it does do it on harder modes, at which point Akira is nearly impossible to hit.
If you can't land a blow on Akira in the hands of a so called 'Expert' controlling him despite his reversals then you're not up to my level of play. I'M SURE YOU GET THAT!!!! Instead of bitching about it, raise your gameplay.

ah, my two favorite characters! Wish I could master Akira though; when on a roll, on a "good day" I've wasted characters using Akira in only 4 seconds! On a good day. I can't do that all the time. Akira is not a popular character, because he's extremely difficult to use and no one thinks he's any good. The truth is, Akira and Dural are equally the two most powerful characters. Anyone who mastered Akira's reversals could in theory be unbeatable.
i feel this game takes away the characters natural appearances too much. i dont mind the outfits but when they start changin hair color and things it just looks dumb
if you master the attack at 0:22, and the attack at 0:51, plust his "evade and strike" back attack move, you can sail right to the end on the hardest setting without ever losing. You only need those 3 moves, nothing else. I'm telling you, playing as Akira is no fun at all.
Akira is one of the hardest characters in the game to use. Sorry to break it to you, but the "Hard" difficulty NPCs can be beaten by 10 year olds (No offense to people who can't beat them). Try facing a human opponent who can think for himself, THEN Akira can really shine.
well, not exactly...it depends on the way you aproach the battles. You can do those attacks only if you want. But i admit it, without them it gets a lot lot tougher and that's when the game gets interesting. In terms of fun this definetly the best vf (and i've played all since sega saturn)
i prefer tekken over virtua fighter 4 even though i've never played virtua fighter, but the moves do look more realistic in virtua fighter because its slower
I can't say the moves in VF are slower than tekken becuz some of the moves are super fast and you should count every single frame and calculate to counter each moves.
chefnik, you obviously don't know a lot about virtua fighter. there are no "good" or "bad" characters in this game. all of them are pretty balanced. and akira is also impossible to use effectively if you're a beginner. and in my opinion, that guy was able to use akira pretty well.

other cultures get weird images of america like we do of japan or china. ha remember what lucky star said, whenver a character leaves an anime, they always go to america. except on rare occausions where they go to france, in one manga I know of they went to sweden or germany or something. point is like 90 percent go to america.

u cant really use ur values of what is good and whats not to judge; u'll actually be surprise at how different the vaules of other countries can be. the reason why characters are always goes to America is probably cuz thats all they really know. US is one the few countries with the wealth and the one with the most desire to influence other countries. Also, many JP think that Hollywood and/or NY is basically America. Not saying that the US is bad; there are many reasons to come to the US.

Ah, if you are using the anime argument as saying that is what gives "good impressions of Japan" you're a dumbfuck; a lot of anime, presents a dystopic, and I will say inacurate vision of the country, judging from what I have seen on documentaries and been told by friends. Japan is a safe, charming country full of weirdos, but ultimately nice people. And hey I agree; America's great if you're white, or met with the white seal of approval.

ah, my two favorite characters! Wish I could master Akira though; when on a roll, on a "good day" I've wasted characters using Akira in only 4 seconds! On a good day. I can't do that all the time. Akira is not a popular character, because he's extremely difficult to use and no one thinks he's any good. The truth is, Akira and Dural are equally the two most powerful characters. Anyone who mastered Akira's reversals could in theory be unbeatable.

if you master the attack at 0:22, and the attack at 0:51, plust his "evade and strike" back attack move, you can sail right to the end on the hardest setting without ever losing. You only need those 3 moves, nothing else. I'm telling you, playing as Akira is no fun at all.

Akira is one of the hardest characters in the game to use. Sorry to break it to you, but the "Hard" difficulty NPCs can be beaten by 10 year olds (No offense to people who can't beat them). Try facing a human opponent who can think for himself, THEN Akira can really shine.

well, not exactly...it depends on the way you aproach the battles. You can do those attacks only if you want. But i admit it, without them it gets a lot lot tougher and that's when the game gets interesting. In terms of fun this definetly the best vf (and i've played all since sega saturn)

I can't say the moves in VF are slower than tekken becuz some of the moves are super fast and you should count every single frame and calculate to counter each moves.

chefnik, you obviously don't know a lot about virtua fighter. there are no "good" or "bad" characters in this game. all of them are pretty balanced. and akira is also impossible to use effectively if you're a beginner. and in my opinion, that guy was able to use akira pretty well.
