  • These amps are fricken loud. I have a white 1982 anniversary model (bought new). Depending on make of year, they came with a variety of different 12" celestions. Mine have the G12T-75's in it...very pleased. :)

  • Exact same amp as my old JCM except mine has just the one speaker. The greatest Rock amp ever made, forget all this 5 channels crap with clean, od1, od 2, super high gain and all this nonsense. One good Marshall single channel amp is all you need. Good enough for Hendrix, Clapton, and all the rest.

  • @Gary1497 Well most of them only used one channel because at the time their were no 5 gain stage super amps like their is today. That being said I do agree these amps sound best.

My problom with my Blackheart Handsome Devil is that when I have the volume cranked up at about half and the drive up the signal doesnt clear up all that much with guitar volume. It is a single channel amp.

  • @minpinful I have 4 Marshalls': 4 vintage Fenders; and a Roland Mini Cube (for practice). So I'm an Equal Opportunity Employer. Been through many, many guitars/amps in my years but, for me, Marshall and Fender have it locked up as Winners of the Century.

    Cheers!

  • Is this a 4104?

  • Adding a simple OD to these amps doesn't give you the Zakk Wylde gain, yet zakk says all he does is boosts the JCM800's gain with an OD pedal.. What the fuck

  • JCM800 - the greatest amp every made!

  • Must...get...buy I'm not seeing anyone sell one anywhere =/

  • excuse my ignornce but,are these combos valve or solid state amplifier??

  • Comment removed

  • How did you get so much distortion on the low input? Are you using a boost? I have a 2203 and 2204 and both are basically clean until you get near maxing out the master.

  • Why does everybody write off the 900s completely??? Yes the ones with diode clipping don't sound as good to most people, but most of the people bashing 900s have never given the SL-X a shot! This one has NO DIODE CLIPPING. Try it. :)

  • Thats sounds absolutely perfect. Im sold, great demo, superb tone just like i want it. I bought a jcm 900 2x12 combo and didnt like it at all, too much gain and thin sounding. Great and superb playing Jason, great touch and feeling. Can you make some videos of you jamming on this. Thanks for the demo and rock on!

  • What kind of speakers are you using?I found that using one g12-65 and one v-30 as the perfect combo. The 65 has more tight bass, (which is needed on the open back shallow cab) smooth mid and high thickness than the 30 and the 30 has the crunch and the chiming highs that the 65's lack. Greatest amp ever? Check out the fortin modded jcm800 vids for maximizing your 800.

  • 3:45 to 4:05 sounds more vox than plexi to me! After that, you hit the gain, it's ALL MARSHALL!!!!

PS: avoid the 900's. They're the only "jcm" amps with a solid state front end. Not joking, look at the schematic. The 800's are way nicer sounding, and that's why.

  • Is it too loud for bedroom practice? (: really like the tone! great job...Ps if u thinks its too loud for the bedroom, can u recommend another combo, which is good for bedroom practice?

  • What model amp is this? And before everyone says a JCM 800 and calls me a retard, I mean the 4xxx number? Sounds guuuurd.

  • @lewisb81 4104. 50w, single channel, 2x12

  • Would'nt this amp be terribly loud for bedroom volumes? Because I love the way this amp sounds, but I may just have to buy a Valvestate, if this amp is not suitable for bedroom volumes. Any help?

  • What are your settings like?

  • @myersasd

why do you ask this?it has knobs that turn, you adjust them, jcm 800 amps are sickningly loud, stop fucking asking what your settings are, nobody, and i mean nobody remembers what theyre settings are.its hands down the stupidest question on youtube, besides will this work for ac/dc dropped tuning or whatever

learn to listen to the video,ok then youll know the abilities and what sounds you can get, then you can find your own settings, god damn it

  • WHAT YEARS IS THIS IM LOOKING TO BUY A 1989 AND I WONDERED HOW THEY SOUNDED

  • Great tone! What kind of speakers does it have?

  • I have one like yours .. It calls 50 watt but I think is more close to 300.

  • @yamitanomura I have a 50 watt SL-X running in 25 watt mode and i cant turn it past 6 in my neighborhood. So yeah I know what you mean. I used to have a 100 watt valveking and it wasnt nearly as loud.

  • While we're on the subject of JCM 800 4104's does anyone know about biasing these things? Maybe I wasn't looking in the right spot but I couldn't find the bias trim pot in mine??? Supposed to be on the board somewhere???

  • It's not "only" 50 watts...

50 watts is actually 80% of the loudness of a 100w, so not so much difference.

  • Im thinking of buying a 80's jcm 800 model "4104", But it has horizontal inputs.. whats the difference and is it really that big? Also i would like to play early heavy rock (deep purple black sabbath etc) and nwobhm. Thanks for any answer!

  • @kanonjon Before I bought mine I was reading up a bit on them and I think the difference with the horizontal inputs is that they are mounted right on the board where the verticals are mounted to the chassis. I don't think it makes a damned bit of difference actually! I equate it to the difference between getting one with the big plastic switches or with the metal toggle switches. Basically if you have the chance to get your hands on one and its a good deal like say under $1000 bucks get it!!!

  • @kanonjon Also... for early heavy rock you won't find much if anything better. It has a simple EQ but but don't let that fool you. That simple EQ is pretty responsive and different gain stage settings in the preamp section change the sound a lot. You would have no problems getting Sabbath or DP sounds with this thing! Just remember that a lot of those guys didn't get their sound by using a lot of gain.

  • Is the difference really that big between the one with the vertical input and the horizontal? Could you please tell me? Im looking for a good old marshall to play early hard rock and nwobhm style music. I just found a "4104" from the 80's(not sure exactly what year).. It has Vertical inputs.. Thanks!

  • Just got a 4104 myself!! :D I think I have finally found the one amp I'll keep forever. Every time I plug into it I'm blown away again and again. Think mine is an '83, it's still got the vertical inputs like yours does. F'n awesome...

  • @TheNonautomatoN Yeah! That's what I'm talking about. It's THE sound of ROCK!

  • "master volume is lethal" um yep barely touch it and its blasting LOL

  • cant u get more bass out of it?

  • well, if u ever wanna get rid of it, u know who to ask (me) lol, just kidding, sounds fantastic

  • @SlashLesPaul321 You know what, I'm always selling amps. But I've kept this one a long time now... about a year. I think it's a keeper, in fact I know she is. This, my plexi, the 2203, the 100 watt bass compressor and the model1992 Bass Head (early JCM800 series). They're all keepers. Dont know about the 2195 100watt lead and bass transistor amp... Hmmm maybe not ;-)

  • How does this compare to a (year 1978)JMP50 combo. I need to get a backup amp and it has to be an older marshall. Their new stuff just doesnt cut it...

  • Ah ha! You said on 5:59, thanks for this demo. Great vid. 5 stars.

I HAVE to get one now!!!

  • Yeah, the JMP has slightly less gain on tap that this baby. And EQ is a bit more tricky on the 50 watt combos (mine was anyway) and it sounded slightly thin and thrashey.... good for punk or grunge, but not as good at classic rock or blues, which is where I'm at.

  • Well spotted! I forgot that myself... If you're getting a JCM800 get the vertical input, not the horizontal, later version. I had a 50 watt head, nowhere near as good as this combo. Get a pair of Vintage 30's too, and you'll never sell it!

  • @JasonNorthBlues On a 50w JCM 800 single channel a vertical input and horizontal are identical in the circuit. This is only folklore because there were changes to the 100w models from vertical to horizontal.

  • @THEMISSILESBAND

I've made the experience, that JMP's usually sound a bit warmer und fuller then JCM 800's - I haven't played any JCM 800 I really liked, they were alway too trebly and thin for my taste...

  • I have an -86 4104 amp..sounds great too :-)

  • what year is yours ? ihave an 83 4104 and these amps are major loud lovem great vid!!!!!!

  • Great demo. Can you reveal settings approx. ? thanks

  • Yeah...! I have the pre on about 5 the master vol on about one treble and mid around 6 and bass about 8. I like the honky mid range, and don't like to scoop the mids too much. Don't wanna sound like Nickelback. Rather sound like Johnny Winter :-)

  • Ohh, no Nickelback please. I can't imagine my 4103 combo doing that amount of gain on those settings. Altough my pickups are weak SC. What is PU you're using in the bridge?

  • I think it's a bareknuckle, but I don't know cos it's not my guitar. It's a Dave Kendal custom strat, which I'm borrowing :-)
