I might be mistaken, but that looks like a "side-address" condenser studio mic. If so, you'll have found you have to crank everything to get even a decent level, and it does sound like that. Try placing it vertically and singing into one of the grilles (either will do) from closer than a foot and you should get a much bigger sound more easily. If you move very close, you'll also get the "bass proximity" boost, which is what radio DJs use to such good effect. Good luck.
