What kind of mixed up logic is it to go as a soldier to a foreign country during occupation (by your own counrty) to help it in some way? If he had thought about it a little more he wouldn't have gone at all and instead been active in some way at home.
About Iraq soldiers - well his criticism his laughable really for many reasons. I suspect many factions are in place, 'trained' and equipped to propagate the cycle of violence in the interests of the war and imperialists amongst other things.

do they have any proof? If this really happened, they should show the proof. Cuz i believe this is awfully similar to the despicable stunt John Kerry pulled back in Vietnam.
proof for sure only if the statements are "sworn" before a panel, which verifies through military documents. This panel is sworn. And Kerry's stunt was back in 1971. Today, BECAUSE of Kerry, the panels are much more stringent
They may or may not be right but if these boys were real men and honestly really saw anything,,, they would sign affidavits just to get dragged into court and testify. They flat out refuse to sign them.
The problem with these traitorous liars as well as the first winter soldiers is thus. If they sign affidavits and are proven wrong (which is a given) they are guilty of perjury.

buddhagem is right, this guy isn't to sharp. He speaks of the Iraqi's having different morals, what BS. Its been an immoral act since its criminal inception by the Bush regime as it is an ongoing war crime.
Nobody who has a clue actually believed the Bushies wanted democracy there. Smoke and mirrors to preoccupy idiots while the neo-cons manufacture a war, violate international law and invade, and proceed to destroy and steal from the Iraqi's as well as the American people.
I don't believe it's a lost cause. But I believe you can't give liberty/democracy on a silver platter. They will have to find their own way to it as any other country did, French revolution, American War of Independence, etc.
we've murdered 1.25 million iraqis in just 5 years. there are 1.25 million stories and those are the dead ones. there are an estimated 8 million refugees, 3 million injured and maimed and an untold number of Iraqis with permanent psychological damage.
keep your head up, the faster folks like you in average america wake up, the faster we can stop this madness.
oh, you got me wrong. I'm not talking about the whole speech, but just only 1 thing he said: 'that it's a lost cause and that in 100 hundered years they still be where they are today. In others words he's saying that they can't change/learn. I believe otherwise. We learned, so why would they not be able. We evolved, why not them. The situation looks grim right now, but loosing hope will make sure that the situation will stay the same. Most importantly this is something they have to do. Not us.
[0part 2] You could indeed easely missunderstand me and think I'm for the troops staying. It's quite the opposite. I'm against any war and strongly believe in peacefull resolutions. US should never have been there. They could have helped this country and any others by setting the example, but even that we don't see.
The invasion was a lost cause from day 1. Even in terms of controlling the oil it isn't really going to work: oil facilities are rather vulnerable to sabotage, suicide bombing and careless smoking; and in any case Iraq is going to become best buddies with Iran, not the USA, which is one reason Reichsfuhrer Cheney wants to bomb Iran.
As for democracy, turning the country into a charnel ground is a perfect way to make it completely impossible.
An arrogant idiot? First of all, he doesn't seem to be an idiot. Who cares if he's arrogant. He blames but the military and political leaders, not the victims.
What he's pointing to is the results of the Iraqi military's training and the false assuption that, under the US Army approach, these men will turn to US Army troops.
Leave the responsibility question to courts. Americans need information just now.
Right. I mean, American soldiers would never behave irresponsibly, kill civilians, or fire indiscriminately. That's impossible, they're "Army Strong."
I get what you're saying, IndieinExile, but part of the official reason for staying in iraq is to "train the Iraqi army." Like Polytical says, Americans need information right now. Not that they'll get it, since no one is covering it but Amy Goodman and these guys.He may be arrogant, but he's not typical.
You can watch this live at Iraq and Afghan Vets Against the War. They will have the whole thing recorded, i guess. Very gut-wrenching.
I've seen that stuff from the Iraqi Police too. They tend to spray like lunatics from the slightest thing

Any big protests against Obama's continuation of the war? I didn't think so.
Dissing the President is not in vogue anymore...time to get a job, if you can.

Actually, democracy only became the official reason after it became clear there were no wmd's, which was the original official reason.
The real reasons are as you say in the second paragraph.

Typical arrogant american idiot who blames the victim rather than taking any responsibility for what he's done.
