Anthony, do you have the newer Blues Jr. III? I love the Old School look of the NOS version. Trying to find a video that compares the difference in the speakers in them. Have a great weekend.
Hey dude i bought the same AMP the tweed from the USA cause you aint gonna find thise tube amp here in europe but i dont get THAT sound out of this AMP while i know how to play this stuff..
i think its because ive got a voltage converter between my AMP to get that 230V we have here.
im planning to get that mercury magnetics transformer for the Blues JR and let a amp tech build it in for me. maybe its the voltage that dont give me the full power out of the amp , also got a TS808 tubescreamer
Hey man, I've done that so many times as well. You get so into the song that the ending bars come and you're still soloing. I think every SRV fan knows that feeling. That tone was so close to Stevie I almost cried. That was epic man.
I watched a few clips demoing this amp. Admittedly I was half-interested anyway, but this had me sold within seconds of listening. Warm sound comes falling out of the fingerboard of the guitar like molten drops of golden honey. Just beautiful.
to get a blues junior tweed or the fender deluxe tweed for same price on craigslist. the deluxe has 40 watts but maybe the tone on the junior is better. Do you have an opion.
finally an actual blues player demo-ing this amp. thank you. Now where'd you get the backing track? Okay, i'll hit your website and see. Great demo. nice tone.
Absolutely beautiful. I'm planning on buying a Highway 1 Strat with that same finish. I also have that same amp :D I think I remember watching this video before purchasing it haha. Thanks for the awesome music
i play reggae/ska and blues and have been heavily researching this amp. Is at all possible to keep it clean with a full band? I'd be using a distortion pedal for distortion, so that's not an issue. If this wouldn't work well, does anybody have any other suggestions for me? nothing more expensive than this amp though.
Hey, I got a American standard start(looks just like the one your playing) Do u think i get this tone through that amp with stock pickups? I only have a Solid state Vox thats pretty good(LOts of amp types), But when i hear your tone im just ruined lol
stevie has been one of my biggest influences, and your lessons and videos are great points of reference. anthony thou art a great tutor/guitarist/person to share your knowledge with more ppl who love the texas blues.
WOW!!!! Are you kidding me that was incredible. One of the few videos on youtube where I was completely impressed. I am saving for an amp and want the fender sound and I guess the only way to get it is with a fender. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME JOB.
Very nice dude. Watching your videos prompted me to buy a Blues Junior. I snagged a Texas Red for $300. It has the Celestion Vintage 30 in it, but I'm considering swapping out the speaker for the Jension that is in the tweed NOS. Not sure yet. Still, great playing and great tone. Keep up the good work!
@gr8bluesgtr how do you think this would sound with a vox ac15h1tv running stereo? What's the difference betwwen this amp and other similar fender amps? Which do you recommend? I play U2, Radiohead, Audioslave, Lenny Kravitz, Rob Tomas/Matchbox, John Mayer type stuff
That was AMAZING! you did Stevie proud on this one man:) The tone is spot on, what pick-ups are you using, are they Texas Specials? Sounds like a million bucks! Keep up the good work :-)
Just can't get over how nice you you play this song. Dang!! You not only play AWESOME but also willing to help other people on questions like mine. THANK YOU SIR!!
Awesome soud and playing. Question if I may, I wanna buy this Amp but first, can sombody tell me what's the difference between the few models of Blues Jr. I see prices difference, some tweed, some black and one with "NOS" (don't know what NOS is) and some without. Is it Blues Jr. and others are Hot Rod models??? I'll appreciate any help. THANKS.
The only difference between any of the BJ models is the speaker. The base model has a standard Fender speaker, the Tweed has a Jensen C12N and the Texas Red model or whatever it's called has a Celestion Vintage 30 I believe.
@4NXCHANGE NOS refers to "New Old Stock" tubes. they're basically tubes that were made to try and give you that older "vintage" tone type thing. From what I hear, they're quite pricey though I haven't personally checked them up.
But they used to warn Stevie that he'd eventually ruin his hands playing that heavy gauge of string (like, .13's). I think there is a big difference in tone between .09's (extra light ) and .10's though , but a difference in playability as well. Stevie also ruined a fair amount of guitar necks with the gauge string that he used, so....
I think you just sold this amp to me for sure. I've been looking at getting a new amp and at that one that can give me these kind of tones. I've been looking at the Blues JR for a while Nothing pains me more than playing Lenny or any SRV song through a crappy amp. Thanks for the outstanding demo.
Not really a competition thing thank goodness because there's some guys on YouTube that could play circles around me. I just try to enjoy it for what it is :)
Do you happen to know if the Fender Blues Junior Tweed Made in USA (the production stopped at 2001 and was moved to Mexico) had Jensen speakers as well??Thanks anyway
Fantastic playing and great tone. I just got a blues junior for use with my Warmoth strat and love it. Do you still have the "Lenny package" available on your site? Do you have any of the solo part lessons.
I took all my lessons based on songs out of the store as a measure to protect against legal issues dealing with copyrights. I'll leave the free lessons up for now.
hi nice vid. Do you have any advise on getting a bright tone out of the low strings. I currently play with a strat with tex specials trough a blues jr. The strat is also shielded. The high strings sound nice and quacky but the low E and A string are not really bright.
The bridge saddles have a lot to do with it, but I have found that the biggest influence on the brightness of the low strings is the construction quality of the guitar. Low to Midrange guitars just don't have the right woods or quality of construction to get the tight, bright low end that you get with a high end guitar.
me again, I have a japanese vintage squier(from de 80s) with an allparts neck. Those can hold up with the newer fenders(unlike modern cheapo squiers). I use graphtech saddles. Which do you recommend?
which saddles would you reccomend? I also have a Japanese vintage Squier with allparts neck. These are same quality as modern fenders( as oposed to modern squiers). So I don't think it's the guitar
So technically the only difference between the standard Blues Junior (the black one) and the NOS version is the speaker right? I ask it because in my country the NOS version isn't available and I'd rather change the speaker instead of importing the whole amp.
Some people say that they're exactly the same except for the Tweed, But the one I bought had better tubes and speaker than the black tolex version that was sitting right beside it. This resulted in a brighter, more lively tone. Best to check for sure before you buy...
i saw the settings you had on the amp on your site, master was at 12 and volume at 5? did you have your volume rolled back on your guitar? cuz at those settings, it would be ridiculously loud in a room. you use the L3 Multimaximizer limiter plugin, but if you didn't, what would you have the amp settings at?

~That just made me sick...I want to throw my f#&%in' guitar out the window now...holy S#it man...that was by far the best guitar I've heard on youtube...PEACE~~
Terrific playing. I have one of these (Laquered Tweed) and its the best amp I have ever had. The Jensen speaker makes all the difference. Had a Tolex model as well once and was good but not as good as this one. Tubes are the same in both, or were in mine anyway. If you change the tubes with this amp, no problem as it has a fixed bias, so you can retube like changing lightbulbs. I haven't done any mods and am not going to, It doesn't need it. Those guys at Fender know what they are doing!!
When I was in the store, I compared them side by side and in this case the tweed was noticibly more lively, and brighter in tone. I checked and it had a better speaker and better tubes. Other people have reported that there is no difference so I don't know what to tell you.
Probably would, but I think it has the bias controls where you can do it yourself. I rebiased my Hot Rod Deluxe and it was pretty easy. SHould be a good guide on the net somewhere. Just be careful if you do, that's alot of voltage in there.
i have to say this is the best guitar vid on youtube!

Those guys at Fender know what they are doing!!

is there much of a difference between your standard blackface blues junior and a tweed covered?... cos i just started paying off a blackface xD
Locolacho 3 years ago
When I was in the store, I compared them side by side and in this case the tweed was noticibly more lively, and brighter in tone. I checked and it had a better speaker and better tubes. Other people have reported that there is no difference so I don't know what to tell you.

Guitar Center says besides the upgrade to the Jensen speaker, it uses better components.

Sweet tone. Do you know if the Blues junior requires rebias if I were to swap out the tubes?
schenker69 4 years ago
Probably would, but I think it has the bias controls where you can do it yourself. I rebiased my Hot Rod Deluxe and it was pretty easy. SHould be a good guide on the net somewhere. Just be careful if you do, that's alot of voltage in there.
