  • i have to say this is the best guitar vid on youtube!

  • Anthony, do you have the newer Blues Jr. III? I love the Old School look of the NOS version. Trying to find a video that compares the difference in the speakers in them. Have a great weekend.

    Lou

  • 10/10!

  • What a sound. amazing.

  • what the eff man! sometimes your playing is so sloppy and than randomly at other times like in this demo it's like a ****in maestro. nice job!

  • Hey dude i bought the same AMP the tweed from the USA cause you aint gonna find thise tube amp here in europe but i dont get THAT sound out of this AMP while i know how to play this stuff..

i think its because ive got a voltage converter between my AMP to get that 230V we have here.

im planning to get that mercury magnetics transformer for the Blues JR and let a amp tech build it in for me. maybe its the voltage that dont give me the full power out of the amp , also got a TS808 tubescreamer

  • @oldvinylrecordings I bet it's your pickups?

  • @StratMatt777

i alrdy got the sound :) it were my amp settings..

the pickups in the classic vibe 60's strat are awesomeeeeeeeeeee and really nails the sound of SRV.

  • i could listen to this all night

  • good demo, Just like they make um back in the late 90s.

  • Great! Would you recommend me this Tweed Nos version rather than the standard tolex one for this kind of tone (SRV)?? Thanks!

  • Well done sir

  • awesome

  • Scarily close to SRV's tone....

  • You fucking nailed it. Jesus Christ

  • I didnt know towing cables would fit on a guitar! You have amazing man strength to bend and twist those things up the way you do.

  • awesome performance dude!

  • What is the price for this one?

  • Is this amp good to play hard rock and even some metal? Thanks

  • Comment removed

  • nice

  • Hey man, I've done that so many times as well. You get so into the song that the ending bars come and you're still soloing. I think every SRV fan knows that feeling. That tone was so close to Stevie I almost cried. That was epic man.

  • wow its magic

  • I watched a few clips demoing this amp. Admittedly I was half-interested anyway, but this had me sold within seconds of listening. Warm sound comes falling out of the fingerboard of the guitar like molten drops of golden honey. Just beautiful.

  • that tone is classic as hell.

  • How did you record this? What mic did you use/placement.

  • Are you using any effects?

  • your finger move is wonderful!!

  • to get a blues junior tweed or the fender deluxe tweed for same price on craigslist. the deluxe has 40 watts but maybe the tone on the junior is better. Do you have an opion.

  • finally an actual blues player demo-ing this amp. thank you. Now where'd you get the backing track? Okay, i'll hit your website and see. Great demo. nice tone.

  • Absolutely beautiful. I'm planning on buying a Highway 1 Strat with that same finish. I also have that same amp :D I think I remember watching this video before purchasing it haha. Thanks for the awesome music

  • absolutely amazing

  • Loved every note thank you great stuff look forward to whatever you post thanks again

  • The key to this tone is to use set of new strings.

  • Bravo, well done....

  • i play reggae/ska and blues and have been heavily researching this amp. Is at all possible to keep it clean with a full band? I'd be using a distortion pedal for distortion, so that's not an issue. If this wouldn't work well, does anybody have any other suggestions for me? nothing more expensive than this amp though.

  • that's the most fucking awesome playing i've ever seen man!

  • Hey, I got a American standard start(looks just like the one your playing) Do u think i get this tone through that amp with stock pickups? I only have a Solid state Vox thats pretty good(LOts of amp types), But when i hear your tone im just ruined lol

  • so much feelings the way you play this.

  • you sir , yes you are awesome guitar player :) ( btw: im getting this blues jr to )

  • stevie has been one of my biggest influences, and your lessons and videos are great points of reference. anthony thou art a great tutor/guitarist/person to share your knowledge with more ppl who love the texas blues.

    thanks alot!!

  • I would kill to be able to play this man, sick stuff.

  • This really is very good A+++

  • dude, however long of a jam on this you want to do I will listen. Awesome awesome!

  • Great stuff man. Thanks for sharing.

  • love watching you play man, there's def some Stevie in you. lol

  • WOW!!!! Are you kidding me that was incredible. One of the few videos on youtube where I was completely impressed. I am saving for an amp and want the fender sound and I guess the only way to get it is with a fender. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME JOB.

  • your guitar's singing..

  • how long have you been playing guitar for? great tone!!!!!

  • What pickups are in that damn Strat, F this sounds great!

  • great playing Anthony,i'm learning lenny right now actually. Could you check your pm's? thanks

  • Very nice dude. Watching your videos prompted me to buy a Blues Junior. I snagged a Texas Red for $300. It has the Celestion Vintage 30 in it, but I'm considering swapping out the speaker for the Jension that is in the tweed NOS. Not sure yet. Still, great playing and great tone. Keep up the good work!

  • @tonyc329... did you ever get the Jensen put in? I bought a NOS after seeing this too! I wanted a Blues Deluxe but this thing sounds amazing!

  • Comment removed

  • thank you for sharing your knowledge n skills,

i've been playing the first chord wrong!

  • Spotless, dead on....and that tone man!?Sweet like candy.

  • Do you gig with this amp?

  • I did when I was in a band.

  • @gr8bluesgtr how do you think this would sound with a vox ac15h1tv running stereo? What's the difference betwwen this amp and other similar fender amps? Which do you recommend? I play U2, Radiohead, Audioslave, Lenny Kravitz, Rob Tomas/Matchbox, John Mayer type stuff

  • Super sweet

  • you're amazing! great tone and playing, i'm jawless!

  • holy crap that was good.

  • Excellent playing and amazing tone!

  • Beautiful, you did this song justice, absolutely my favorite SRV song. Very nice!

  • That was AMAZING! you did Stevie proud on this one man:) The tone is spot on, what pick-ups are you using, are they Texas Specials? Sounds like a million bucks! Keep up the good work :-)

  • All gear and settings is detailed on StevieSnacks. The pickups are Lindy Fralin Blues Specials.

  • Dam, that was sweet!!

  • wow dude, i must say this stole my soul .. u are fuckin amazing keep up the good work =)

  • suprised the guitar didnt catch on fire at 3:48! nice tone and amazing playing. so much soul!

  • whats the nos stand for and are the different speakers much better than stock ones found in the blues junior

  • NEW OLD STOCK

  • Just can't get over how nice you you play this song. Dang!! You not only play AWESOME but also willing to help other people on questions like mine. THANK YOU SIR!!

  • Awesome soud and playing. Question if I may, I wanna buy this Amp but first, can sombody tell me what's the difference between the few models of Blues Jr. I see prices difference, some tweed, some black and one with "NOS" (don't know what NOS is) and some without. Is it Blues Jr. and others are Hot Rod models??? I'll appreciate any help. THANKS.

  • The only difference between any of the BJ models is the speaker. The base model has a standard Fender speaker, the Tweed has a Jensen C12N and the Texas Red model or whatever it's called has a Celestion Vintage 30 I believe.

  • @gr8bluesgtr which has best tone?

  • @4NXCHANGE NOS refers to "New Old Stock" tubes. they're basically tubes that were made to try and give you that older "vintage" tone type thing. From what I hear, they're quite pricey though I haven't personally checked them up.

  • @pureoffering7 NOS refers to anything New old Stock, not just tubes:-) There just are most favorite things to buy NOS.

  • this is friggin awesome man. you really nailed this tone and wicked stevie song.

  • STEVIE actually used 0.11 gauge strings on his LENNY guitar

  • great playing, and sound! Question: I'm wondering what a Les Paul would sound like thru this amp?

  • SOUNDS GREAT

  • But they used to warn Stevie that he'd eventually ruin his hands playing that heavy gauge of string (like, .13's). I think there is a big difference in tone between .09's (extra light ) and .10's though , but a difference in playability as well. Stevie also ruined a fair amount of guitar necks with the gauge string that he used, so....

  • Yea but hes tuned down a half step, so the tension isnt as bad as you might think.

  • It really does help.

  • Hey man, I'm looking to get this amp, I play alot of stevie stuff.

I got a frontman (fender) thats 65 watt so, I would love the 15 watts, haha:D

All tube !! I've never had an tube amp before, thanks, im getting it!

  • 15 tube amp is louder than your 65 watt frontaman....you can play with a band with that 15 watt tube amp!!!

  • man that was awesome great tone

  • is this just straight through the amp besides the solo? awsome

  • Yes sir.

  • Man, that was great. Thx for that.

  • I think you just sold this amp to me for sure. I've been looking at getting a new amp and at that one that can give me these kind of tones. I've been looking at the Blues JR for a while Nothing pains me more than playing Lenny or any SRV song through a crappy amp. Thanks for the outstanding demo.

  • wowo! very inspiring! does your amp are stock or modded? Thanks!

  • This amp is stock.

  • very hendrix

  • UBER!

    Extremely well played...solos were tremendous.

  • what pickup position are you using? Neck and Middle?

  • Neck, Neck/Middle, and some bridge.

  • thank you very good sound!!! good play. always mex strat? tank you

  • That guitar is actually a Grosh Retro Classic.

  • Hahaha big difference I'd say :P

  • what s your pick up!! fantastic!!!

  • The pickups are Rocketfire Guitars pickups.

  • oops, I forgot in this guitar they are Lindy Fralin Blues Specials.

  • Awesome.

  • .57 - 1.09 sounds so good john myer uses that riff

  • guess where he got that riff.

  • well of course. One of John Mayer's biggest influences is SRV. He has his initials tattooed on him.

  • Great tone, great technique, great song, great cover. 5*

  • Great playing. SRV in our ears!

  • dude ur making me jealous of that tone. its so glassy!!! amazing

  • Oh man, that is lovely

  • Fucking Sweeeeeeet man!!

  • Ey! Ey! How much for ya' hands buddy? I cud use them! Ey Ey! (Said in a mafia accent)

Great Stuff I've learnt loads from you, thanks very much you're a top guy mate!

  • I rent them out on weekends while I'm watching TV.

  • pretty, man!!!

    love SRV.

for drive use a tube screamer??

  • Nobels ODR-S is my pedal of choice, but it's not made anymore sadly.

  • hehe..... I lost a lot of afternoons to that video while in college. Didn't even have it on DVD then, VHS tape all the way...

Nothing like slow-mo to capture the hand movements on vibrato...

  • you are a Stevie freak just like me. only thing is that you play much better than I do. Congrats soul brother...

  • Not really a competition thing thank goodness because there's some guys on YouTube that could play circles around me. I just try to enjoy it for what it is :)

  • The NOS has a Jensen speaker?

  • Yes. The regular Tolex edition has a Fender Special Design Speaker, but the NOS edition has a Jensen Brand Speaker.

  • Do you happen to know if the Fender Blues Junior Tweed Made in USA (the production stopped at 2001 and was moved to Mexico) had Jensen speakers as well??Thanks anyway

  • i have this amp too man, its fucking awesome. great playing man, to a great song..

  • Nice. I too jam to that backing track ;)

How did you have those Fralins wound?

  • Mine came with the guitar. They are the Blues Specials model.

  • Fantastic playing and great tone. I just got a blues junior for use with my Warmoth strat and love it. Do you still have the "Lenny package" available on your site? Do you have any of the solo part lessons.

  • I took all my lessons based on songs out of the store as a measure to protect against legal issues dealing with copyrights. I'll leave the free lessons up for now.

  • hi nice vid. Do you have any advise on getting a bright tone out of the low strings. I currently play with a strat with tex specials trough a blues jr. The strat is also shielded. The high strings sound nice and quacky but the low E and A string are not really bright.

  • The bridge saddles have a lot to do with it, but I have found that the biggest influence on the brightness of the low strings is the construction quality of the guitar. Low to Midrange guitars just don't have the right woods or quality of construction to get the tight, bright low end that you get with a high end guitar.

  • me again, I have a japanese vintage squier(from de 80s) with an allparts neck. Those can hold up with the newer fenders(unlike modern cheapo squiers). I use graphtech saddles. Which do you recommend?

  • which saddles would you reccomend? I also have a Japanese vintage Squier with allparts neck. These are same quality as modern fenders( as oposed to modern squiers). So I don't think it's the guitar

  • I use a combo of GraphTec for the higher strings, and standard steel bridge saddles for the lower strings.

  • So technically the only difference between the standard Blues Junior (the black one) and the NOS version is the speaker right? I ask it because in my country the NOS version isn't available and I'd rather change the speaker instead of importing the whole amp.

  • Yes the speaker is the only difference. I used to think the tubes were different too but they are not.

  • Thanks for the fastest answer on youtube lol :)))

  • awesome playing! I really think I need to get a blues junior so I can get this tone, it's so great!

  • Best $529 I ever spent on an amp.

  • Would you recommend the Blues Jr. NOS over the traditional Blues Jr.?

  • Some people say that they're exactly the same except for the Tweed, But the one I bought had better tubes and speaker than the black tolex version that was sitting right beside it. This resulted in a brighter, more lively tone. Best to check for sure before you buy...

  • how do you do vibrato like stevie i really want to get it down

  • Check out my Lenny Vibrato lesson, that should get you started.

  • i saw the settings you had on the amp on your site, master was at 12 and volume at 5? did you have your volume rolled back on your guitar? cuz at those settings, it would be ridiculously loud in a room. you use the L3 Multimaximizer limiter plugin, but if you didn't, what would you have the amp settings at?

  • You know what, that does seem a little strange. However, I did want a pretty clean sound for this song and I do remember my ears hurting at the end, so maybe that was correct. Maybe I took a picture of it....i'll check.

  • Great work on Lenny dude!

And there's no wrong ending; it's all feel...

    Soul2Soul

  • Thanks for the compliment, but that ending was pretty bad :)

  • Great demo of this amp!

  • Thanks to this vid I just bought one of these amps. I think you've found the sweet spot. Strats were meant to sound a certain way and this amp really brings it out. Especially around 3:31. Powerful in a natural way. Very nice.

  • You're certainly right about this amp bringing out the best in a Strat.

  • excelenttttttttttttttttttt no more words, you are good.

  • Awesome tone mate, im out hunting for a new amp and this is undoubtably one of the ones i need to try out. Wondering, are you using any pedals or is that all power amp drive?

  • Check the gear demos over at StevieSnacks (dot) com, I have a list of all my gear used.

  • Very nice. And the amp sounds awesome. Have been lugging around a big, old, Super Reverb and it gets heavier all the time. Hmmm was thinking of something smaller. Again, nice feel. You got soul man.

  • And you must have some strong arms, that amp is a beast! Either that or a very tired back :)

I can't tell you how nice it is be able to carry my guitar and amp in the same trip...

  • ~That just made me sick...I want to throw my f#&%in' guitar out the window now...holy S#it man...that was by far the best guitar I've heard on youtube...PEACE~~

  • Well I wasn't trying to make anyone throw their guitar out :) Actually hoping for the opposite reaction.

  • me like what I hear!!!

  • awesome playing, love the tone.

  • Terrific playing. I have one of these (Laquered Tweed) and its the best amp I have ever had. The Jensen speaker makes all the difference. Had a Tolex model as well once and was good but not as good as this one. Tubes are the same in both, or were in mine anyway. If you change the tubes with this amp, no problem as it has a fixed bias, so you can retube like changing lightbulbs. I haven't done any mods and am not going to, It doesn't need it. Those guys at Fender know what they are doing!!

  • is there much of a difference between your standard blackface blues junior and a tweed covered?... cos i just started paying off a blackface xD

  • When I was in the store, I compared them side by side and in this case the tweed was noticibly more lively, and brighter in tone. I checked and it had a better speaker and better tubes. Other people have reported that there is no difference so I don't know what to tell you.

  • Guitar Center says besides the upgrade to the Jensen speaker, it uses better components.

  • thats some cool playing, I like the way you start it :)

  • You mean how I couldn't count the beats of the backing track correctly so I just waited for the drums?....hehe

  • I think I just jizzed a little.

    PERFECT

  • what kind of pickups are there?it seem like custom shop texas special, trully SRV tone!!,congrats!!!,from uruguay!

  • The pickups in this guitar are Lindy Fralin Blues Specials. I've got all the details about this video over at StevieSnacks (dot) com

  • Man. That was sick. Excellent cover man.

  • that was sweet brother

  • Dang!

  • Sweet tone. Do you know if the Blues junior requires rebias if I were to swap out the tubes?

  • Probably would, but I think it has the bias controls where you can do it yourself. I rebiased my Hot Rod Deluxe and it was pretty easy. SHould be a good guide on the net somewhere. Just be careful if you do, that's alot of voltage in there.

  • Thanks

  • Holy cow, my new favorite instruction series. THANK YOU - somebody finally got the camera angle RIGHT! Beautiful playing, btw.

  • Took me a while to reply, but thank you. I appreciate the feedback :)

  • great sound, keep it up, where did you get the backing track?

  • GuitarBt (dot) com
