  • Ok maybe dumb question but . . . the wall they cut out, isn't that needed for structural integrity? Also, why ship the plane by ship? Can't it fly itself?

  • The wall is reinforced by the brackets they slid over the top and bottom of the cut away section, just like if you remove a post and insert an I-beam span instead. The plane can only fly once assembled. The components are shipped there because they are so large. The final assembly is in Toulouse, France but the main parts come from all over Europe.

    So you see that mega-size plane fabrication involves mega-size logistics.
