It's great to hear a rock band cover this 300 year old tune. I wonder if all the hundreds of thousands of shredders worldwide, could even collectively come up with a tune that lasts for another three hundred years, like this beautiful tune from Johann Sebastian Bach???
@avp010994 Last night, I broke in my new keyboard's Flute sound. Being as drunk as I was, I actually could very briefly, close my eyes and imagine the greatness Ian conjours up.
Jethro Tull was for me the iniciation inside of music and the misterys of the metal flute in 80's. I see in live in Gava, Barcelona 2 weeks ago and is the same Ian Anderson like 30 years ago whit less hairs. The best for you Ian.
@jethrodassam hall of FAME. yes a tull were not nearly as famous as many other bands, and their fame has not been sustained by new generations as much as other bands have had.
@fartbarfunkel They were very famous. How old are you? Their incredible music should land them in the Hall of Fame. There are plenty of bands in there that don't belong. Sly and the Family Stone? Oh please.
@jethrodassam You`re right. but then : fuck the "hall of fame". They are in OUR hall of fame and thats what matters. they were my first favorite band and i saw them live twice in 78/79. my first concerts ! Later i moved to punk, then independent, today i listen mainly to electronics, but they never left that special place in my heart. They are way too cool to care about this shitty hall. but dont get me wrong : i love you for raising the question. Cheers from Germany !!
@StanTheDog57 Ich sehe das auch so. Habe sie erst 1989 kennengelernt mit 18 und habe mir dann nach und nach alle Alben besorgt. Für mich bis heute eine der einzigartigsten Bands aller Zeiten.
@martin2sax Doesn't matter. They were progressive. I mean come on...a flute in a rock band? You wouldn't recognize Mr. Anderson today if he fell on you. A highly intelligent and progressive man. He's the b*lls.
@pwj2113 That was the idea…Ian Anderson is the flutist and he is the leader of the band Jethro Tull. Have seen him perform live not long after the date associated with the documentary above and about 2-3 years ago. He still plays standing on one leg, remarkably.
E nessa brincadeira Jethro Tull é um caso à parte. Rotular sua música, não tem nenhum sentido. Ela evoca imagens de infância, contos de fadas, o lúdico que não deveríamos perder com a idade.
I think the crowd just got caught up in Ian Anderson crazy way of playing the flute..Ian was upset at them cheering because he gesture over to Glenn for the crowd to listen to Glenn...just saying
This is an awesome version! I've never seen it! At first I thought that they had overdubbed the flutes on it...only to see at about the 1:00 mark Martin Barre playing along with Ian! Great!
importamt what this song is that starts with an introduction Baroque Ian gives her unique style and is certainly the most important part is the solo electric bass but still is a good song
thanks for uploading your video a hug greetings from Peru
Agree with the bass solo thing. I'm a flute player and a guitar player myself, but I teach myself guitar riffs I love, including bass riffs, and the whole bass line for this song is gorgeous. I adore playing the bass solo, especially when I can use someone else's bass for it. XD

Glen Cornick on EB3 bass sounds great - liked him on Thunderbird too, but this has a bit more definition to the sound - lovely - the single pick up TBird was a bit of a bruiser!
This early incarnation of the band was definitely the best IMHO
@canadianspwn11 Yeeh - yr right - still pretty amazing though-not heard Martin Barre on flute before either. I played flute in1967 ish when I first heard this - could play Bouree theme but then my troubles started! (used to produce more spit than polish!)_ Hasnt he got an elegant turn of ankle at. 0.35, 1.40, 2.15, 2.38 etc Hope he hasnt got varicose veins now as a consequence! Pity aboout walking bass solo - it is utterly brilliant isn't it and then with the flute
@MrMeddled I don't think any of that is true! BTW, back then Anderson was just an average Flutist but now he has developed into quite a virtuoso on the instrument.
@MrMeddled i will agree that the bass solo was ruined in this performance, which is a great shame, but Ian Anderson is a great musician and singer never the less. now if he was megalomanic and narcisistic i don't know, but it's not entirely his fault that the bass solo was ignored.

It's Glen Cornick on the bass, Carrick Celt. Jeffrey took over from him only by the time of the Aqualang album, about three years later. In 1969 Jeffrey was a close friend to Ian and hung out with the band but didn't even play an instrument. Take care!
I wouldn't have liked it if they cheered during the Flute solo either. Sometimes crowds can be very rude. Polite applause the way Jazz fans do it would be better holding the cheers for the end..
@tbcass I actually agree, without that bass solo I actually think that the song is missing something -.-. I was actually upset too, even though I'm a guitar player. That's why I don't like when people clap before the actual song -.-.
@tbcass The cheering that we heard almost sounds superimposed on this clip. Either they used entirely crappy mics for the audience, or it was added in post-production. There was applause, obviously, but it doesn't sound quite right. So in the live experience, it may not have been that obnoxious. Or who knows? Maybe it was.
@tbcass ~ You could tell Ian Anderson was irritated with the applause making the bass solo impossible. It was a very important part of it, the counter point of the bass and the flute is what makes the thing work. I wish they could have gotten a clip of them doing it the way they rehearsed it.
really. That is nuts.Where are those caliber bands now?

I wouldn't have liked it if they cheered during the Flute solo either. Sometimes crowds can be very rude. Polite applause the way Jazz fans do it would be better holding the cheers for the end..

@tbcass you dont listen to jethro tull for the bass but a good bass solo is awesome

@zombiemash88 Maybe you don't but I do. I'm a bass player and it's a big thing I listen to in music. Glenn Cornick was an excellent bassist.

@tbcass I actually agree, without that bass solo I actually think that the song is missing something -.-. I was actually upset too, even though I'm a guitar player. That's why I don't like when people clap before the actual song -.-.

@tbcass Well, I learn to play the flute, but You are right, this is a hard bass solo, rude think the cheer in the middle...

@tbcass You can see Ian very irritated when the audience kill the bass solo. Poor Glenn just skips it when it becomes impossible to goes on w
ith it.

@tbcass ~ You could tell Ian Anderson was irritated with the applause making the bass solo impossible. It was a very important part of it, the counter point of the bass and the flute is what makes the thing work. I wish they could have gotten a clip of them doing it the way they rehearsed it.
