  • depression is the worst illness in the world.

  • I can only dream of getting this emotion into a song - never gets old ... and such a nice guy - had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times

  • A genius

  • Your a true fan of a Great Man.....

  • whoever asked what y.h.h.r. stands for its Young Hilltoon Huns Rule. (its a gang in dundee)

  • Sublime

  • he did a good version.....still like the BOYS version best, but its a good song regardless who sings it with feeling....what did he pass from? he must have been young....

  • @emb1st

Billy comitted suicide at the age of 39.

  • Class xxx

  • fuck you all, hunz rule, im billys nephew, helens son and all i can say on the matter is he was the best nd, tap oh the hill and your no!!! x

  • y.h.h.r

  • @stevebyres

    What does that stand for?

  • A bit too melancholy for my own liking, however such was Billy's moods. The world will never EVER hear a voice such as this......SERIOUSLY......& what a guy also.Singing aside, you are so missed.

  • Billy and Alan. Who needed Paul and John?

  • This is evidence, if needed that Billy McKenzie should have did the James Bond theme, he towers above any diva, what a tragic loss.

  • he was truly beautiful xx

  • Miss you Billy

  • OMG - I was there.......

  • fantastic, wish i tuned into youtube long ago to catch all these. Billy had a voice that stood out. He never got the recognition he deserved. Can you imagine the music from him, if only.

  • This was eight years before Boy George's version, and twenty years after Dave Berry. Brenda Lee and Percy Sledge also recorded it.

  • talented beyond being fair..put so much into a song and made it sound truly wonderfull with what seems like very little effort be it a dance track or a slower love song.....those first impressions they keep us guessing...sleep well billy x.

  • I felt so in awe of Billy when in my youth. I felt so humbled today finding all of his work on you tube and interviews and saddened by his death,

Yes and the piano in this is so sensitive, what pianos were made for truly is to touch us like in this piece.

    I wish for more.

  • Another amazing talent to come out of Scotland. Vocaly he never really slotted into any particular Genre, I think he was a bit like that in his personal life too - Felt uncomfortable in the spotlight. Such a sad end to a young life.

  • Hope the heartaches are gone now Billy - Give your Mum a hug - Wish you were still here.

    Sadly missed.

  • This has to be my favourite version of this song...love Billy's voice. So talented.

  • beautiful

  • Will this entire performance be released on dvd please. It was filed by WEA.

  • Unbelievably good. I love Dave Berry's song and Boy George's version, but this is probably my favourite. That piano!

  • Billy was a beautiful guy with a beautiful voice, hugely missed.

  • @sulk100 I agree whole heartedly sulk, he has a fab voice and was fit as anything!

  • Thank you.

  • beautiful. its beyond me how anyone could prefer Boy George's version, there is zero emotion in it! they obviously dont appreciate rare talent

  • the difference between billy and everybody else is that billy can sing anything and make it good, that is pure talent right there.

  • Thanx! Another great song! Wish I new more about him! Is it true that when he got dropped off his record label & he got a taxi & said, take me home mate!? bak up 2 scotland & charged it 2 the record company?

  • great man great voice

  • I liked the Associates, and I also like Dave Berry, so it was a bit of a suprise to find this video by chance!

  • is this a boy george cover? or did boy george cover billy? i think bg'z is better

    this is nice too though.

    :-)

  • Neither - the original was first recorded by Dave Berry in 1964.

  • @sgtrayelwood good on you. a great collection of Billy. have spent hours going through them. CHEERS.

  • dave berry had a no 1 in 1964 with this song.

  • @mring111

Duh... if this footage says: Ronnie Scotts 1984 and Boy George/Pet Shop Boys released their version some 8 years later, then how could this be a Boy George cover?

Still... it is a cover nevertheless... Written by Geoff Stephens and originally recorded by Dave Berry in '64... Prior to the Pet Shop Boys ft. Boy George, this has been covered by many, many, many people... Nina Simone, Brenda Lee, Peggy Lee, Elkie Brooks and many, many, many more...

  • Thank-you for sharing Billy!

  • How lovely to find all this. A pleasure to see,

  • Billy was an inspiration to all who knew him and his music. I was lucky enough to know him and he will never be forgotten. No one sings like him and his music was way ahead of it's time.

  • loved to of been there what a talent ...

  • I am in the midwest (Kansas City) and I never had the pleasure of seeing the Associates live. In fact I never even saw a video performance until a couple weeks ago. Gosh, I'm so grateful for youtube. These Billy Mackenzie treasures are very special for sure. What a tremendous talent and individual. I regret his passing and remember him in my prayers. Rest in peace sweet Billy.

And thanks for posting this too.

  • I understand. I love him too. Rest in Peace Beautiful Billy..nam myoho renge kyo.

  • 43 year old bloke here, who can't watch these clips without tears in his eyes

i saw him live twice, but obviously, THIS is the concert i would have happily sold my grandmother into slavery to have been at.
