Are you all fucking retarded? Go look at his vimeo page. He sais himself, its all CGI. He even tells which programs he used and which plugins. Is it so hard to understand?
Look closely at 0:15. The dark marks on the lemons (shaped roughly as a "y") are the same on every lemon. That's because he is using the same material for every one and changing the shape and size to make it look more realistic.
I just don't get why if you have this kind of ability you would be making CGI renderings of things you can easily make with simple camera tricks..
Do something to show off your imagination.. something surreal to show this isn't just some camera trick.. Nothing in this video looked like it couldn't be done in RL without the help of Sony Vegas and some liquid nitrogen.
I'm not saying it's not actual CGI, but why something so bland of just fruits falling and some room?
@tipoomaster I meant the same kinda pillars as the ones you see at 0:49; in both cases, the render is not photorealistic at all (I mean, compared to the rest). At 0:51, them white pillars seem to hover over the floor.

Why would you make an advert like this with CGI when u can do it without CGI? This is not CGI, because it is way too simple, if this was made using CGI then they would have shown something that would be impossible to film. THIS IS NOT CGI!
@fafzorz This is 100% CG, the whole point of using CG IS to make things look as realistic as possible or fit into the scene you are trying to create. If you are such an expert on CG you would know this.
If this continued for as long as Star Wars did then maybe it would cost that much...This is a 60 second commercial vs a full length movie. Don't see a difference?
Ok, if you search for CGI (computer-generated imagery) just two clicks on google you will know how hard is to achieve this. Alex Roman is talented man....you know, don't forget that.
Unfortunately people who don't know what shortening CGI means (like me yesterday), will not respect this enough, because they simply don't know that this is made using computer only. This deserves a better title, so we less intelligent people can also see the greatness of this video. Sorry my English.
The renderings are extremely cool and realistic. The trajectories of the pieces look very real... only glitch is, real things don't shatter in a zillion pieces.
@renatoram2000 I think that's there to help us differentiate between CGI and Real haha. If it wasn't for the shattering and the freaky gravity, I would've struggled to believe it was CGI.
Superb craftsmanship. Thanks for making good stuff to put in the world.
So I'm imagining a film directed by Chris Nolan, written by the Cohen brothers with Alex Roman as the Director of "Photography".
It's about a man who has created a picture perfect alternate world where he lives more and more. Because to him, the beauty he can craft has surpassed the beauty of the real world—and it's up to the real world to prove to him otherwise. Maybe a fictionalized riff off of Reality is Broken.
Not to take away from this, because it's amazing to see technology moving forward so beautifully, but it's also a bit disconcerting. Those fruits don't actually exist. I'm not sure I'm looking forward to a world of film 20 years from now where the difference between what is real and what isn't is impossible to distinguish.
So, somebody cue me in-because I'm in the business of practical commercial photography, much like this. I do pours, splashes, etc. Was this ALL CG, or is it heavily manipulated photoimagery elements (which would still be amazing). All these things- the lemons, the crystals- are they all from whole cloth, CGI? Because if they are, I may have to go back to cabinetmaking.
So, somebody cue me in-because I'm in the business of practical commercial photography, much like this. @gjbc -- all CGI, altho I suspect that, in the last scene, the skyline background IS a photo ...prolly an HDRI photo that was used to light the scene in the computer.
@gjbc It says "Not one second of actual footage" - which doesn't preclude starting with original stills if you ask me. Wouldn't it be strange, after all, to make a CGI version of a counter top which your add is trying to advertise?
@felinec there's a little icon underneath the hit counter, looks like a two arrows pointed downwards. suggest you click on that and read a little bit more about how this was made.
@felinec Hah, it's amazing that in this day and age, I occasionally come across someone who sees CGI images and think they are real. Another time this happened to me is when I saw Terminator Salvation. When we got out of the theater, someone said, "well at least they managed to get the governor to come out for a cameo". Although I think this video is even more real than that, as it would fool pretty much everyone.
Oooook.. And why doesn't it? Macro is a form of photography. Photos are real. Sounds like photorealism to me :P Regardless of that fact, what makes it photorealistic is the texturing and lighting, which is spot on.
Saw Alex's 'The Third & The Seventh' film earlier this year, and he's done it again with this short video. James Cameron should be employing this guy for the next Avatar film(s) - then you would see some seriously mind blowing CGI for sure.
It's got what is often missing in CGI, the things that in real life are not intentional... little particles in the air, dust or small drips of moisture... it's what makes it look so real (besides of course all the rest).
