  • Fingolfin... the original badass

  • Fingolfin - the only lesser being (can't really call him mortal, because elves aren't mortal) to leave a lasting wound on a Valar. Without a doubt the most badass character ever put to paper.

  • @shadowstorm1989 Oh hell yes, man. It is undoubtedly true that Fingolfin is the man. Can you imagine if he were allowed to return from Valinor to face Sauron during the War of the Ring? Glorfindel back the hell down. Daddy would be home.

  • The Silmarillion

  • which book is everyone quoting, i recognize it 0.0

  • @DanthelaticsRoyle The Silmarillion, I guess...

  • Those books and this music. Never gets old.

  • and he drew his sword Ringil, that glittered like ice. ......... Thus died Fingolfin High King of the Noldor. ... The best book and these are great tunes.

  • HE GLEAMS LIKE A STAR AND THE SOUND OF HIS HORN IS LIKE A RAGING STORM

    E glîn êl a i romru ned în rûth-alagos!

I have zero Sindarin grammar, but those are the words. More or less.

  • Nothing can be better than read Tolkien's book while you are listening to Blind Guardian...!!!

  • morgoth made 9 accounts to dislike this video..

  • Morgoth pwns Hitler

  • @Sjowmalf TOTALLY!!

  • This song becomes even more epic when you have read Tolkien's books!

  • This chorus gives me goose bumps.

  • Blind Guardian and Keep Of Kalessin should write an album together.

  • This song is as kickass as the Noldor for whom it's written for. Seven wounds bitches.

  • What the heck is "eye-ron"?

  • @CenturionRyan It's the old English pronunciation of Iron.

  • @RabidBunny13X Oh. Neat.

  • @RabidBunny13X RabidBunny13z, you need deliverance.

  • EPIC and Awesome to say the least

  • saw it live.....twas epic

  • And Morgoth came.

  • this album is so nerdy but so epic at the same time \m/!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • wow my friend show me this its epic as hell

  • i was hooked on this song first time i heard it. its so good

  • Grond is a BAMF weapon though. Shame Fingolfin was only one elf. He really stood no chance against the mightiest of valar. The only one person that can take Melko is Illuvitar the All-Father. Even the Valar knew that much.

  • @omgpwnd Dont forgot Tulkas, one of the Valar. He did beat Melkor before the First age.

  • @Henkimies Beating Morgoth in battle is only a delay, the power of evil pervades over the very matter of Arda.

  • @Sivart343 True, True. One particularly wicked work of Melkor was the fear of death which he gave to men. Death was originally meant to be a gift.

  • This song is in 3d for me. Just firkin awesome!

  • ENTRA EN MI TOP 10 DEL GUARDIAN CIEGO

  • "Welcome Tom My REalm....!!!!You shalll be damned!!!!"

  • If i am remembering correctly, Fingolfin wounded morgoth seven times, before he was slain. I also seem to remember the wounds burning eternally, and that morgoth will feel those wounds till the end of creation. Feel free to correct me if you have read the book more recently than I have. My copy fell apart years ago. : (

  • Correct, and Morgoth from then on walked with a limp from the wound Fingolfin dealt to his foot.

  • @sodabox2008

Dead on, friend. Seven wounds from the Noldor to the iron crowned.

  • The high lord Fingolfin actually deserves this song.

    Blind guardian masterpiece.

  • @Epifairos

I agree, strange what effect good literature has on us. Sometimes I think that a sphynx from Lord Dunsany will appear to challenge us with riddles.

  • EPIC <3

  • 2:09 = BEST PART OF THIS SONG

  • maybe i'll take my own sword an punish the 8 people disliking this video...

  • Come forth, o monstrous craven lord

And fight with thine own hand and sword!

Thou wielder of hosts of banded thralls

Thou tyrant leaguered with strong walls

Thou foe of Gods and elvish race!

I wait thee here. Come! Show thy face!

  • @Monacyt epic

  • as said before. i wish i could give a +1000 to this

i read in my mother language, but in english, its an endless poem

good job BG, we love you here in my country

  • Blind Guardian ihr rockt!

    Metal aus Deutschland!

    Einfach geil!

Mit euch bin ich groß geworden!

    Gruß Hackisan

  • I masturbate with this music on in the background.

  • Fingolfin is the only elf I like in Silmarillion and this song suits him perfectly.

I love the part: Slowly in fear, the dark lord appears. It sounds like Morgoth is realy scared. :D

  • Fingolfin is the shit ^_^.

  • The rocks rang with the shrill music of Fingolfin's horn, and his voice came keen and clear down into the depths of Angband; and Fingolfin named Morgoth craven, and lord of slaves. Therefore Morgoth came, climbing slowly from his subterranean throne, and the rumour of his feet was like thunder underground. And he issued forth clad in black armour; and he stood before the King like a tower, iron-crowned, and his vast shield, sable unblazoned, cast a shadow over him like a stormcloud.

  • But Fingolfin gleamed beneath it as a star; for his mail was overlaid with silver, and his blue shield was set with crystals; and he drew his sword Ringil that glinted like ice.

Then Morgoth hurled aloft Grond, the Hammer of the Underworld, and swung it down like a bolt of thunder. But Fingolfin sprang aside, and Grond rent a mighty pit in the earth, whence smoke and fire darted.

  • I wish I could +10000 this comment, and all-time fave it.

  • fucking amazing song.

  • \m/

  • Praise Our King \o\

  • Praise our king!

  • Fingolfin, King amongst kings. His spirit survives, praise our King.

  • time stands still at the iron hill: Epicness turned into a song

  • long live fingolfin, who dared to do things other didn´t even dare to think...face morgoth

  • Long live Fingolfin!

  • @luis1111728 his brother did

  • am i the only one to have missed the 'deceit' at 0:38 for years untill i read the lyrics??

and now i know it's there, i can't miss it

  • me too

    hahaha

    exactly

many blind guardian songs has something in the lyrics that we can't hear 'til we read the lyrics xD

    lol

  • lmao u bastard. you ruined the 38th second of the song.

  • i'm sorry, i'm just tryin to get my band to cover this so i'm trying to remember the lyrics xD

  • This song/that part of the book gives me goosebumps.

  • thats devine

  • hey Maiar you do a really good job matching the original illustrations to the songs. thanks for that. I haven't read the Silmarillion in years and its nice to see some familiar characters with a great song by a great band

  • Probably one of the best song ever made

  • This is one of the main parts of the Silmarillion, it was like a climax.

    COME OUT YOU COWARD!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ToquiGambit Dunno, I like Dagor Bragollach better.

  • Fingolfin and Fingon are probably two of my favorite characters in Tolkein and fantasy as a whole....both had epic battles....one with Morgoth, one with Sauron

  • I think you meant Finrod. Fingon (Fingolfin's son) was killed by balrogs in the 5th battle. Still epic, but not Sauron. Finrod (Fingon's cousin) had the duel of songs with Sauron, and was finally killed by him in werewolf form.

I imagine the 'Iron Hill' of the song is meant to be Angband (which translates as Hells of Iron). Iron Hill, Iron Hell, same difference...

  • yea lol...it's been awhile since I read it

  • This song's chorus reminds me of my passed away uncle every time I listen to it.

I listened to this so much after he died, it's one of the best songs I know.

Thank you Blind Guardian, you are legend.

  • you compare fingolfin with faramir and aragorn? LOL

  • Naah, not comparing, i just prefer them coz there... sort of human :p

  • awesome song! Love it

  • HOLY.....Fingolfin is one of my favorit characters, not just on the Tolkien Universe, but fantasy as a whole.

    THIS IS AWESOME!!!!

  • feanor is cooler

  • Fingolfin is the shit! But i prefer faramir and aragorn personally.

  • @minomane ? faramir he ot half as good as Fingolfin but I love fearon he kicks ass

  • LONG LIVE BLIND GUARDIAN!

  • HAIL TO BLIND GUARDIAN

  • how much crack have u been smokin ?!?

it doesnt even sound like "Saladin" or "arab hill" !!!! BTW...

    !!!!!!BLIND GUARDIAN RULES!!!!!!

  • It seem that you dont know anything about them so..... shut up!

BLIND GUARDIAN RULES (and especially this song)

  • But then again... Saladan definetly didn't live in Noldor ...

  • huh?I don't here a ''b'' at the end of the sentence,but i hear an N,so no..

  • Not bad...

  • It's funny, when I first heard this song I thought it was about the crusades. It's really hard to make out the words w/o lyrics.

  • What's so hard about it? :) WHEN TIME STAND STILL AT THE EYE-E-RON HILL.

  • Comment removed

  • Fingolfin wounded melkor 8 times.7 times during the fight and as he lay trapped under one of the feet of morgoth he nearly hack it off before he died. After that morgoth had a limp.

  • this vid should have more views. this is one of their best songs

  • Any question? , please send me an emai. I'm still waiting in the Hall of Mandos.

  • Yes m'lord, when will you come out of the Halls? We Edain lack true valor and leadership in these dark times, and King Arthur isn't answering our phone calls... So... Yeah.

We kind of need a great leader. Plus, with the immortality of the Eldar, we won't have to worry about that troublesome "succession" issue that plagues Edain monarchies.

  • ROFL

  • You brilliant bastard

  • I'm a 100 % Fëanor fan, but even I gotta love Fingolfin and his badassery. :P

  • ^ Win

    ^

    ^

  • Fingolfin is the SHIT! my fav character, he fought a God basically and managed to wound him 7 times, and cause him to limp. What a legend =]

  • I agree, he is my favourite of the Eldar hands down, and my second favourite character in all of Middle-Earth only behind Faramir.

  • He wounded Morgoth so severely he was forced to walk with a limp from then on

  • He even wounded Morgoth too

  • He wounded him seven times and in the end severed off his left foot.

  • Wait! If Fingolfin severed one of Morgoth's feet, how in the book says that the Valar severed boh after the War of Wrath?

  • he did not..

  • In italian version i read that they tied him down in hands and feets, not that Valars severed his feets.

    May the traslate is wrong...

  • Fingolfin is a legend for attempting to kill Morgoth. He probaly figured i'll go back to Aman if I die anyway lol

  • And Feanor is not a legend? :D

  • He was, but his legendary status is smudged a bit because of his actions.

  • If you ask me, that makes him even more epic. All the darkness within and stuff...

  • Tolkien>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>George Lucas

this is my favorite blind guardian album, and the silmarilion is one of my favorite books

  • I have to agree with that statement, just that it would be interesting to try

  • I guess, and I'm sure anything by blind guardian would be great, but fantasy is there thing, another power metal band might be able to do a good interpretation of it.

  • well they do have Otherland thats sci-fi

  • Infact there is a power metal band called Iron Saviour that does mostly sci0fi songs. They're quite good, though not as good as BG and Thomen (Ex. BG drummer) and Kai Hansen used to play with them, but latter quit.

  • Fuck yeah Silmarillion!! My fave too!!

I came to think that almost every fantasy roleplaying game or story or whatever, came all from Tolkien Inspiration. Example: Have you read "Ægidus, the farmer of Ham"? *SPOILER*

When Ægidius befriends the dragon, there are twelve knights who guard him, those are known as "Draconarius". Now play some Final Fantasy games and tell me if you see a job called like that.

    Epic.

As David Bowie is in every game, Tolkien is in every epic thing.

  • And Tolkien took from the nordic mythology... Among other things... What's your point? Nothing is unique, everything's been thought of before. Awesome song, and book, though.

  • David Bowie what?

  • Is in every game. Check Video Game Look Alikes and see it for yourself.

  • I had no idea, and I really like David Bowie. Thanks for the info

  • the Silmarlion. Fingolfin Vs Morgoth. How Morgoth is a cheating bastard and Fingolfin fought bravely but died. Pretty much sums it up from the lyrics.

  • fucking amazingly awesome song, even better when live though

  • best track on there Nightfall In Middle-Earth Album

  • Fucking epic.

  • why are all these people listening to this music and accusing people of being nerds? also, the drummer, and both guitarists (not hansi though, lol) in blind guardian say themselves that they are nerds, so what? they have a better life than these dickheads calling everyone nerds. They are famous, people listen to them, people are obsessed and addicted to them, they hav wives and children. THEY HAVE A BETTER LIFE THAN PEOPLE ACCUSING OTHER PEOPLE OF BEING NERDS

  • I feel the word "Nerd" is a result of total insecurity on the part of someome with less intelligence and knowledge.

  • i have often heard and seen now that it is often also the introleration of the haters and the mistake to judge this music after a few seconds... If they would "analyse" this better or look behind this lyrics for example by reading the books they wouldn't talk such bullshit...

  • On the "mistake to judge this music after a few seconds" point, I've found Blind Guardian a fairly interesting case because frequently it takes time for it to sink in the first time you listen to it. Perhaps it's just complex music, but I have more than one friend who first listened to a few BG songs and was kind of indifferent, then listened again and went, "This is amazing!" I haven't seen this with any other band. Has anyone else done this?

  • i agree when i first heard it i was in a rush and i wasnt able to listen to the full song so all i heard was the beginning and i thought wtf is this crap but then i heard the full and i was like fuck me this is amazing!

  • nerd just means you're socially insecure, I know people with high IQ's that play WoW every chance they get yet they are more popular then you could ever imagine

  • go fingolfin!

  • people found insulting words for other people and their interests because they don't have the mental capacity to realize that everything is quite relative and what they consider nerdy is considered one of the masterpieces of literature of all times by millions of people.

  • Look at the blue being on the front cover... It is a blue entity from the star Sirius.> Whattashit!!!

It's Lúthien Tinúviel, in front of Morgoth, the Dark Lord.

Don't go saing such nonsenses if you didn't even read Silmarillion.

  • Look at the blue being on the front cover... It is a blue entity from the star Sirius.

  • o.O

  • Yes, that's a nerd. A nerdy nerdy nerd. It's not a bad thing. It means that nerdiness is being institutionalized. All the stupid jocks can start beating THEMSELVES up for being nerds now. If they're smart enough to realize, anyway.

  • Night Fall is the name of the albun.

  • 'Nightfall in Middle-Earth' is the entire titles name actually.

  • which album is this from?

  • @ aeros12

    Öööhm... No...?

  • wtf does Oooohm with the umlauts mean.

  • It kinda sucks that lord of the rings is viewed as nerdy now. Its a Bad ass story and a lot of metal bands have songs about them.

Its pretty funny though when a black metal bands play such harsh music about "nerdy" elfs and such.

  • are you implying that the lord of the rings was once considered not nerdy?

  • yeah definitely. Before the films and retarded stuff (trading cards/video games) LoTR had a massive european following that inspired so much creativity.

  • a massive following... by a bunch of nerds. It's a story about fucking elves and wizards and dwarves and shit. The content itself makes anyone who follows it, by definition, a nerd.

  • So the fact that it has huge undertones of christianity and general philosophy have nothing to do with it? Or the fact that it was written around 1910, way before nerds. Or the fact that Tolkein was the main influence on C.S. Lewis' writings? No, we're a bunch of nerds. I suppose all the things you like are shallow excuses of lowest forms of art?

  • You're saying that fantasy writing is not nerdy if it is influenced by christianity and philosophy? Also, get your facts straight. The Hobbit was written in 1937, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy was written from the mid 30's to the late 40s. There were certainly nerds then. J.R.R Tolkien was a total nerd. So was C.S. Lewis. Maybe you need to provide a definition of what you think "nerdy" literature is. I feel that stories about elves and wizards certainly fall under that category.

  • No, his son compiled notes of his from 1914 pertaining to the Middle-earth story. So he began work on it in 1914. A nerd isn't someone who follows a story about elves and such. Because i'd say every single person in america knows the story of the lord of the rings or star wars by now. And what of video games? Halo, Half life, Ninja gaiden, etc all have fantasy stories of wizards and aliens and stuff. Does that make them nerdy?

  • Yes. Yes, that does make them nerdy. Someone who is not nerdy is a person who plays sports and has a good job and stuff. If a person has all that, but still likes elves and wizards and stuff, that person has nerdy interests. So what? Nothing wrong with being nerdy. But yes, all things with wizards and aliens and elves are nerdy. And the actual LotR books came out in the 50s, thats when they had their huge nerd following.

  • Thats retarded to label everything as nerdy/jock/punk/emo/ blah blah blah cause then everyone on earth has some characteristic that puts them into all the categories. I like metal, so i'm a metalhead, but i play basketball and baseball, so i'm a jock, but i like LoTR so i'm a nerd, but i play Call of Duty, so i'm a gamer, but i love my girlfriend, so i'm emo, but but but the list goes on. If you label people for specific interests, all you have is a bunch of labels that dont mean a single thing.

  • Lol I listen to fantasy music so I am a nerd, I'm an investor so I'm rich, I love my girlfriend so I am an emo. I smoke so I am a stoner, I practice martial arts/kickboxing so I am a Kung-fu killer, I believe conspiracy theories so I must be crazy. . . Right?

  • according to his logic yep. But i dont think rich is a label, thats more of an actuality.

  • I sculpt music so im an artist. I'm creater. I'm a spiritualist. I'm a philosopher. I have 152 I.Q. so i guess im a "nerd".

Im 6'5". 225 Lbs. I played Football, Basketball, In school. So i must be a jock right? Wrong they're merely just characteristics. I Am who i am. I choose to process my own unique thoughts and actions how choose to. I do however agree with your points. Characteristics are often labeled. But, do we ever ask ourselves why we in society must fuction like this?
