  • UBU is still on TV. LOL

  • I remember the Viacom logo coming almost out of the TV screen like a train coming down the track.

  • Anybody else think Dick Clark's logo looks like a, well....

  • saturday afternoon movie is the best

  • UNC TV? You must be in the area

  • Oh wow... I think I'm only JUST old enough to remember some of these.

I've always loved these old openings. No idea why... Kinda like it doesn't immediately advertise what the film will be like... I dunno... But I like them no less. Maybe some weird childhood thing.

  • 3:55 NET The Public Television Network

  • the CBS one I remember very well

  • aren't these production company logos also called splash cards?

  • Where's Civic TV? Oh, wait...

  • 0:37 to 0:48 = THE GREATEST.

  • Man, I remember being so scared of the Columbia Pictures logos when I was young. The Closet Killer Paramount logo wasn't very nice to me either, same with Walt Disney Home Video (outline Mickey is mad creepy) and Stephen J. Cannell (I hated that C.)

However, I STILL love me some "Sit, Ubu, Sit!" I loved that dog, always came on at the end of Cheers!

  • These motion logos were not catchy by accident. Tremendous amounts of research, psychoanalysis, statistics, audience testing, and just plain trial and error went into developing them.

  • The Hannah Barbara logo!

  • The Rankin Bass logo is my fav...after every stop-motion animated feature it reminded me that Santa Claus is, indeed, coming to town. I still get jazzed (at 38 years of age) every time I see it after my young sons watch "Rudolph" or "Frosty".

  • hahaha, "Dick clark" :D

  • Would Multimedia Incorporated's logo count as "retro-futuristic motion?"

  • The CBS Special presentation was rather scary. But The CBS Thursday Night, Friday Night Movies & The Best Of CBS animation of the mid-late 1960's was creepy, Especially with the bulbous motion, And it's unsoothing theme. As was the late 1970's NBC Late Night Movie with it's spinning reel & somber-sounding theme. And the WLS-TV (1976-79) Raposo composition which sounded like "Terror At Dusk" music.

  • these bring back memories lol

  • Viacom owns MTV and BET lol

  • Sit Ubu. Sit. Good dog. I wouldn't turn the channel at the end of Family Ties until I saw that.

  • I'd love to know what the CTW (Children's Television Workshop) logo was used for generally. There's this show that I'd like to track down that used to have that logo.

  • what is in 2:37

  • The Hanna-Barbera star logo defines the 80's and my childhood. Love it!

  • The CBS Special Presentation one would get my heart beating fast because I knew there would be a cartoon coming up.. maybe Charlie Brown or something .. and not another Walton's or M*A*S*H rerun.

  • The Disney one- memories of the Disney Gold Collection series on Beta, that we would constantly rent.

  • upload in higher quality!

  • Most of these were done with scanimate wikipedia wiki/Scanimate hmm...won't let me use a real url

  • The CBS Special Presentation one ROCKS!!!

  • Amazing how such small thinks like these bring back so many memories...

  • @InactiveCoconut No dought i remember most of these from the 1970s and 1980s..

  • Wow, some of those logos are still unnerving after all of this time, especially like the CBS presentation and Rankin-Bass logos. Though...

"Sit, Ubu, sit. Good dog. "Woof!"

  • This is so fücking AWESØME!!!

    ÖH MY GÁWD!

    MïND... BL0WN...

  • your choice 5 your choice 5 your choice 5

    YOUR CHOICE IS FIVE

  • it's like, i wanna say... livelavalive, why the fuck did you send me here.

but i sort of enjoyed this, so, like. i guess i won't.

  • ...i think i just got brainwashed.

  • Oh man! These scared the sh*t out of me too. There was one in the early eighties that came on, right after Saturday Morning Cartoons were over. It was the opening credits of some sort of "edu-tainment." It was a green backdrop featuring some little blonde kid masked by question mark with a yellow outline. The kid's awkward grin peering from behind the punctuation creeped me the fuck out. It "always" felt like an invasion of privacy. I couldn't shake the sense that, it was "other-worldly." I'd l

  • The rankin bass logo make me very sad, Like I just lost a loved one kinda sad.

  • "the typewriter man" as I would say as a kid was the best logo EVER! RIP Typewriter Man.

  • New York's channel 7 sunday night movies-the silhouette movie filmmaker man along with the music used to scare the shit out of me when I was a kid.

  • Comment removed

  • RIP Stephen Cannell !

    get it? ...rip? :)

  • I use to be really scared of that NET logo, it just sounded so bad like the end of the world.

  • How old is that Metromedia Television add and what networks played it ?

  • i know how you feel abot the ITC logo man

  • u cuda also put the G4 ch. one that they play during comercials of the movie that i guese r no good...the one that goes "movie that dont suck"its got a retro feel to it also.

  • ok, that dick clark logo looks very much like a phallic symbol. i don't think that was just a coincidence.

  • The noise for the second ctw was wrong; it used the old scary WGBH noise. The real CTW noise was a lot scarier though... I had it on a few videocassestes when I was younger. I paid close attention so hopefully I'd know when it was coming and wouldn't get so freaked by it.

  • @Altoclarinets good choice! scared me too! i like the hanna barbera one,

somthing like the Smurfs/Snorks would be after it. sit ubu sit good dog!

    arf!scary CTW ONE!

  • This does something to me...

  • I love the internets!

  • Thanks you. I remembered the music of PGP (2:29) but not the company's name.

  • I used to LOVE the CBS Special...always came on before Charlie Brown and all the Holiday shows! :)

  • Fond memories of the Children's Television Workshop, thank you for posting this.

  • It's what we hear that we remember alot more than anything else. What were they thinking when they did the choppy viacom one, geesh, lol.

  • LBS.. Load of... !!!

  • Ahh the good ol' days. Back when slappin' a broad on the butt wouldn't get you fired.

  • HOLY SHIT! LOGOS! ENDLESS FUTURISTIC LOGOS!

    (And Moog synthesizers.)

  • 1:34. :D

  • OH MY! I have been looking for years for the one with the guy typing but I couldn't remember what the name of the company was!

  • SJC was a favorite. Before computers! ITC got cut short man!

  • Love all the old logos...brings me back to a simpler time; when life was easy, television was farely new and innocent. Those were good times!!!

  • I want to go back to the times of these logos!

  • I love Ubu. Such a good dog.

  • 2:00 20th century fox disney

2:12 Sit Ubu sit, good dog. *ruff*

    2:28 SEGA!!

    3:02 Frosty the snowman

5:24 prime time all the time channel 29

  • 1:34 WGBH???

  • @rickyony How about WTCN in Mpls, St Paul? I don't have a memory of it, that's in Boston (WGBN, carried here on PBS) In Minnesota, we had NBC's affiliate channel 11 go by WUSA for a time!

  • Must of been hard to hunt these down, Really cool! Brings back memories, I wonder if they tried to make it do that?

  • Mirá uncachodecacha y comentá, votá. Ahora también uncachodecacha en Twitter y en Facebook. ¿Qué esperas para meterte en cachos de la vida de esta chica?. Que tengas un buen día. ;).

  • weareallstarstuff. tumblr. com

  • aahhh the memories!!

  • Excellent work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • on the dream, here's the list of logos i used. in order of appearance. lexington broadcast service, DIC, Columbia pictures television, children's television workshop, ITV, 4 point dave/westinghouse/group w, and in front.

  • Nice,.,.But Check Out My Channel,..,Nicely Wwell Put Entertainment!!

  • It's funny to think that something like movie/television logos are remembered and cherished by people my age.

Now a days there are no ending credits and animated logos. Damn you Credi Squeeze!!!

  • omg i remember these but i grew up in the 90's O.O crazy....now i feel super old!!

  • The one at 1:34 brought back a plethora of memories from my mother being absent to the game of "secret" my uncle use to play with me and my sister. It made a man out of me. A dick in the ass is nothing a normal person should not be able to walk off.

  • Idents were better then! its as simple as that! brilliant video.

  • Wow! you actually got the version wih ubu's bark that's hard to find!

  • Nostalgia.

  • 2:43, breaks it down.

And 5:05 I remember well. It was on after The Littles.

  • something about them just creeps me out for some reason.

  • cool lots of these companies are either bankrupt or merged with some other company/distributor

  • The UBU logo scares me to Japan.

  • The ITV logo makes me cry.

  • brings a tear to my eye

  • Hearing the music of the second ITC logo brought me to tears instantly. All I can think of is "The Muppet Show" and how I wish those days of yesteryear would return. How is it a logo makes a person cry? I am literally crying.

  • @raposofan Also 'Space: 1999'!

  • @raposofan >>>These logos make us cry because they remind us of the innocent world we lived in where fragile little grammas made us warm chicken noodle soup after a cold wintery day playing outside.

  • @raposofan

Holy crap the mind control instruments are intact and operating. The ITV logo made you misty. I just want to make sure that you aren't joking. There's an additional comment on that logo. The logos were designed by psychlogists for maxium memory imprinting. Their utility is confirmed.

  • @raposofan It's called classical conditioning.

Childhood: Pair the logo music (unconditioned stimulus) with the warm happy feelings of childhood (unconditioned response) experienced at the time you listened to the music.

Adult: a conditioned response (emotional reaction - happy/wistful/sad) occurs when you hear the same logo as an adult (logo music now is a conditioned stimulus).

  • 5:05 damn!

  • which one is the one with a photo of an old couple posing in some backyard if im not mistaken and the photograph is brown in colour...what production company was that?

  • The PBS head scares the shit out of me.

  • @vv1nd growing up, my mom used to have to turn the channel directly after the PBS shows I watched until the commercials were over because I would get so scared of the PBS head, especially the one where the deep voice went "....pbs..." uggghh gives me chills lol.

  • I remember a lot of these from when I was a kid. I'm also now remembering that a lot of them were strange and kind of creepy for some reason...

  • @GMan1402 Fnord

  • 2:42 I heard a different version of the song. I have it on tape...

  • extended remix..........

  • Does anyone remember an intro that involved different coloured lights, a starry background and a rooster??? It's been driving me crazy trying to remember!

  • Fuuuuuuuuck dude, scroll through to 1:06!!!!

I've been googling "spinning star/ old tv spinning start/...etc" trying to look for this freakin tv logo, and I FOUND IT! This Hanna-Barbara logo is one of those that never left my mind. Something about the sound and that star. VERY NICE FIND!

  • Same thing!

  • OMG. I haven't seen that Metromedia 11 logo since I was a kid. Ironically the '11' was used in Los Angeles as KTTV as well, and the last time I've seen that was probably the early 70's. Great job in shoing it again.

  • Ubu. Now that was one good dog!

  • I love these things. Really a shame that we don't have stuff like this on tv today. I think that Disney home video logo from the 80s is really cool. I wish they still used it.

  • next time, add the NBC special presentation current one, that always gets me perked up for the macy's thanksgiving day parade! woohoo!

  • ha ha WNEW logo wins! flawless victory! fatality!

  • HBO...man that looks so defrent from today :))

  • 1:37 Incorrect audio (That is WGBH)

  • At 4:00 the "rankin bass production" logo is identical to today's "plan B" skateboard logo... hmmm.

  • now, those are scary....

  • And who doesn't just feel so comforted by the Hanna-Barbera logo at 1:07?!! Every time I hear/see it, I am immediately taken back to my childhood!!!

  • dude for sure i totaly forgot about that logo untill now damn that takes me back

  • Is there anyone else out there that used to be scared by the Embassy logo at 3:03? It sure used to terrify the crap out of me, I'll tell you that!!!

  • God, I remember some of those when I was growing up!

  • DVNO. Four capital letters.

  • My favorite part of every show. Thanks!

  • This is GREAT my friends and I are really digging this, who would have thunk it (we are such geeks)

  • ITC rocked! It always meant some excellent sf programming!

  • I think I prefer these to the super-crisp, high post-tech, post-modern logos that they use so much today. There seems to be something more authentic in these. Course, maybe it just reminds me of childhood, too.

  • eleven... eleven... eleven...

  • Some of the classics. I dating myself but remember every nearly every one of these.

  • Brillante

  • Sit UBU, Sit - Good Dog!

  • screen gems.....yea that was a bit creepy!

  • OMG!!!!!

2:00 I haven't seen that since I was little. For some reason I guess it was the music that scared me and I hid in my Mom's lap.

  • Holy crap I had so many chils watching intros from my childhood. Especially that CBS Special logo! Whenever that was on it was usually during the holidays watching Charlie Brown or Frosty or Rudolph. *memories*

  • L.B.S. (Lexington Broadcast Services) distributed Hanna-Barbera cartoons for a time.

  • Many of these logos meant that Saturday morning cartoons were finished :(

  • Holy crap! PGP was one of my favorites when I was little! Thanks for posting :-D

  • nice compilation ...

check out my work if you have a second..

  • I had the commedy live action, and cartoon series. I had a list of companies I dreamed I worked with. DIC, 2015, program exchange LBS and CPT as well. there was no chance that the v of doom was gonna be there

  • had afew dreams about these, first one was that I had a show on tv with my own custom logo, and had enough money to get more shows and get the famous logo companies back in buisiness

  • metrooooo11...11...11 rofllll

  • douche chills

  • I was never afraid of any logos.

  • Retro Junk ? LOL

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome!! I've seen everyone of these before, and can sing along!! ;)

  • Sit, Ubu, sit. Good dog. [woof]

  • I used to love the Hanna-Barbera star logo, but for some reason I conflate it in my head with the typewriter one. I also remember that my brother and I always had to say the name of the company before it showed up on screen. Talk about successful branding!

  • What station did the Saturday Afternoon and Sunday Night Movie logos come from? There are so many stations around the US that use the circle 7 logo that you can't distinct from one affiliate to the next. WLS in Washington, WXYZ in Detroit, and KGO in San Francisco always come to mind when I see the circle 7

  • Sorry - I meant WLS in Chicago. WJLA in Washington uses it too.

  • The circle 7 logo was,and still is WABC NY.

  • do they even make logos anymore? i think the last show to feature a viacom logo is sabrina the teenage witch (last viacom logo known to date)

new shows from 2008 - 2009 don't have them at all. i miss the DIC vortex, LBS, and claster (not in this vid) but yea... they all rock.

  • I like the logo at 2:38

What show or whatever is it from? What company too?

  • That is a CBS Saturday morning cartoon commercial bumper in the mid 1980's.

  • Hmm. Thanks!

  • the typewriter one will always pwn!!

  • Wow never thought I'd ever see the CBS Special Presentation ever again. I remember the ITC from after the Muppet Show

Sit Ubu sit... what tv show did that used to follow?

  • "Ubu Productions" followed 2 shows: "Brothers and Sisters" (1979) and "Family Ties" (1982-89).

  • Spin City too, I think.

  • nostalgiattack

  • Classic!

  • The "Children's Television Network" and "CBS Special Presentation" ones rock!

So did KARE 11 used to be broadcast from the other side of the River as WTCN??

  • 1:07 is one of my favorite logos ever :D

  • hanna barbara fan huh

  • yep :D

  • Thanks for the nostalgia pill!

  • 2:43 that one was used in the Christmas Episode of SuperNatural.

  • The big HBO intro was probably the best logo ever. CBS special is somewhat the creepiest to me.

  • Comment removed

  • These all used to terrify me.

  • Don't you know these are "SCARY LOGOS," you might give some people nightmares. Actually great job with the video, brings back a lot of memories.

  • i want a t shirt that does this!

Especially the DiC one. Man, when I watched Sailormoon, I hated to see that shit coming.

  • ya I remember that one. hated it. That it says in child voice near the end "Dick" . It was totally messed up.
