another awful & messy overture : mozart wrote only one good Opera, Le Nozze di Figaro, but all the rest is mediocre or just decent stuff !
I don't think Wolfgang Amadeus got even a 10% of what reached by Beethoven , Verdi , Rossini , Puccini or even Handel .
If we make a comparison with some divine overtures and sublime melodies by Verdi or Rossini, well there's no match , 'cos honestly mozart is a dull out of the massive propaganda in his favour .....
On a Technical point, This is the first Secular music to have a Trombone (Sackbut) scored into the work; which was originally done by Mozart. During this period, the Trombone was only used in the Church music as it was considered to be a sacred Instrument This is a marvelous interpretation of this, my favorite overture to my favorie Opera by WA Mozart. Such a dark and forboding story..
A good place to listen to this music. This is the Prague's Tyl Theatre where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart conducted the premiere performances of two of his operas: Don Giovanni on October 29, 1787 (which Mozart himself conducted) and the opera La Clemenza di Tito (1791).
@Dogaradodia I might be wrong, but this look the teather in Prague where Mozart did the premiere of Don Giovann. It´s all covered in gray silk with golden stitch... They recorded Amadeus here also...

Good to see and hear the wonderful Czech Philharmonic playing Mozart and conducted by the excellent Manfred Honeck. Thanks for posting thisl

good energy, full of life!
however, this , i think, cannot explain the brutal sforzandi and sloppy quavers in the fast section.

This is wonderful! Manfred Honeck has done spectacular things with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. We're glad to have him in Pittsburgh.
