Japanes food, especially tonkatsu, is my most favorite, but I live in an area of the U.S. that does not know what Japanese food is, so I have a couple of questions about this recipe:
1) I will need to make my own bread crumbs...how do I do this?
2.) Where can I get tonkatsu sauce? Can it be made from soy sauce?
3.) What kind of oil is the best for cooking tonkatsu?
@Nephthalem You don't have to use tonkatsu sauce, just mix ketchup and some bbq/steak sauce together, flavorless oil is best *no peanut oil or olive* such as plain vegtable, bread crumbs - toast toast and break into a bag, then pound it into smaller chunks, not into small grains.
shitsumon shite mo ii desu ka? what kind of sauce do you prefer for the tonkatsu? I live in China and the supermarket here recommends a lot of sauce but i dont think they know what theyre talking abt :p and secondly have you tried substituting salt with meat tenderizer? shite mimasu :) hontoni arigato gozaimashita. gochiso sama deshita :)
@ZBeckx too much eggs i would say. however there might be some other reason as low temperature of oil. Before frying check ur temp with thermometer or if u do not have one just throw 1*1cm bread piece into oil, and it should get crispy and cold colored in 1 minute or less.
Is it possible to make this with chicken instead of pork? I don't eat pork.

I find it easier to coarsley mix the flour and egg in a bag and "marinate" the porkchops in the bag and dump them into the breadcrumbs. ;)

so hmm what happens if i dont use flour?
vn01208503 6 months ago
@vn01208503 If you don't use the flour, the egg and bread crumbs won't stick that well. It will come off during frying. Thanks for your comment! ♥
