  • @drivethrusatori I ask that question everyday. Young folks don't know about because of the lack of Quality Radio Programming. A Damn Shame.

  • Rod Temperton. Genius. We need to hear you again!

  • I Love This Song!

  • MY JAMM FROM 1981 REAL MUSIC SO GLAD I GREW UP IN THIS ERA!!!

  • I may be young, but I know quality music when I hear it. Too bad they dnt make em like this anymore. I love this song.

  • Still have the original "The Dude" album. PRICELESS!

  • "Certainly". Sorry about the typo.

  • Love it!!

  • @soulsupremeful Well one person disagrees you that person needs serious psychological help

  • I always felt this was one of the more underreated tracks on Quincy's "The Dude" album! Great to hear this again!

  • @Meridian83West , it's only under rated to those who haven't heard it. Patti Austin's voice is awesome. I was what? I was seventeen when this came out. We came up listening to some good music didn't we?

  • @nubonyx We certaily did. Patti Austin is still one of my favorite singers! When I made the switch to CD's years ago, this one of my first CD purchases to replace my beat-up vinyl copy of "The Dude."

  • This song brings back memories

  • Patti Austin ROCKS!!!!

  • Love this song so much!

  • Why artists of my generation don't make music like this anymore?!?

  • @BillieJean1992 Because today"s "artistes" know little about phrasing, nuance, song selection or lyrical interpretation. Plus, songwriters like Rod Temperton only come around once every generation.

  • @cbirch15 You are 100% right ! and of course no one comes close to Rod Temperton nowadays, he was a genius!

  • @BillieJean1992

Lets not forget Bruce Swedien's major contribution during the 70's and 80's. That man knew how to work the mixing desk.

When I listen to tracks from Quincy Jones and other artists through my headphones or speakers I'm still benefiting and from his knowledge of sound engineering today.

  • @carbiify Yeah how can we forget about Bruce Swedien! They were amazing guys and they all contributed in MJ's success in the music business! Huge thanks to them.

  • This song haunts me, it's magical, boy it was good time back then!

  • i love love love this song........~

  • i would send all weekend listening to this album.

  • One album that I'm glad to have in my collection. Quality music!!!! We need to go back to this!

  • 1999, found this album at a garage sale for $1, no scratches, COOL!!

  • Finally found this album. This album was very much a part of my young childhood. Thanks to mom for instilling this appreciation in me.

  • Honestly... this song makes me float in mid air.!!

    <-).

  • MY GOOSE BUMPS HAVE GOOSE BUMPS!

    .

  • Q genius and Patti's voice,BRILLIANT!! I was 18 when this album (That's right ALBUM! OG HERE!!)came out and it put the zap in my head how this song and the album can create magic.I played this song when I had first my squeeze and thought it would be forever, girl's gone but the song stay's in my head for all the right reasons.Try that with this crap out here I may sound like an ole fart but music doesn't make me want to degrade women, just my two cents.

  • @rrinhhsb this is real music so it should create a lasting memory.......good stuff!

  • SOMETHING SPECIAL*

  • ditto ...Patti Austin is my favorite singer alive today. She's been a part of not only the Q sound but if you read credits too many albums to list here, along with her own diverse R&B/Pop, & Jazz albums/cds. She's back with a Pop/RandB collection this month - 'Sound Advice'. So damn flexible she is. &, btw, she'll be 61 Aug 10th! : )

  • Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood MUSIC

  • Why can't this type of music blare out of people's cars instead of the crap that's released to the masses today?

  • @drivethrusatori Because we have begun to accept anything and call it music courtesy of these so-called music executives that wouldn't know a hit tune if they heard "TAKE THE A TRAIN"

  • @drivethrusatori Set it off.... i know i will be bumping this as soon as it gets warm....

  • Rod Temperton from Heatwave wrote this song. It has that Heatwave sound.

  • Just plain SMOOOOOOTH!!!!!!!!

  • this song, razzamatazz, betcha wouldnt & ai no corrida got a lot of play in the clubs in Baltimore early 80's, Q was turning it out !!!!!!

  • i remember listening to this on a Sony Walkman in Pohnpei, in Micronesia in 1982 floating around the lagoon in a 6 foot canoe. the best time of my life. thank you Quincey and Patti.

  • Excellence is a work of art....

  • Very enjoyable !! Many thanks to you my friend..

  • This entire album was a hit. I played it over and over while I was away from home-- I listened to the smooth jazz vocals and the sax in the background to help me escape.

No one can touch what Quincy Jones did on this album.. I still jam to this masterpiece.

  • Michael only did background vocals on the title track "The Dude". Quincy regulars Tom Bahler and Jim Gilstrap along with Patti herself handled the background vocals on this track. Special note should go out to Ernie Watts for the awesome sax solo and Herbie Hancock for his incredible play on the electric piano. My favorite track right alongside "Velas" from Q's best album.

  • Sexy. Hypnotic. So good.

  • Is that Michael Jackson doing background vocals?

  • @parkej87 YES MIKE SUNG BACKGROUND VOCALS ON THIS HIT.

  • @parkej87 He did do Background Vocals for this album.

  • rod temperton written all over this one.

  • My all time favorite by Quincy and Patti beautiful instrumentals and Patti is above and beyond awesome! thanks for posting..........

  • @HobbsBhip: That's right!! I think that style should be left to the album designers, business left to the producers and music left to the SINGERS!! As a child of the late 70's - early 80's I miss this genre of REAL, TRUE music. Nowadays it's all autotune and bragging rights. Let's have some REAL music back on the airwaves, people!!

  • @wordsmith72 TRUER WORDS HAHAHA WERE NEVER SPOKEN SIR AS STATED BEFORE TODAY'S SO-CALLED MUSIC IS AS YOU SAID NOTHING BUT AUTOTUNES STRAIGHT GARBAGE AS SAID BY JAY-Z ON ONE OF HIS CD'S

  • Quincy + Rod + Patti = MAGIC!

  • GO Q U DA MAN!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Yes, true, this is a really evocative song of the good old days!!!

  • I love this song. It could only have been done by the one and only Ms. Patti Austin..........

  • LOVE IT! THANKS FOR POSTING

  • OMG! I've been searching and searching for this song here on youtube... I didn't know the title. LOVE THIS SONG!!! Thanks so much lawr89 for posting it!

  • Patti delivered beautifully on this song, I am not sure anyone else could. I think Patti is one of the most underrated female vocals of our generation. I must have played this song close to a million times. I can never get over Patti's voice. The sax solo, the background vocals is just heavenly. Quincy is a master, but he had great musicians to work with.

  • @MrYorubaman, very true about Patti. She sounded like a legendary soul singer from the 60's motown era. Truley underrated. Great soul and r&b sliped in the 70's when disco was big and resurfaced in the early 80's when crossover jazz was in and then went down again not to long after. Her voice was perfect for this kind of music. James Ingram was also one of the greatest singers of genre and early 80's era no question.

  • @MrYorubaman FYI Patti is Quincy's GODDAUGHTER

  • @MrYorubaman I totally agree with you on this!! This song is a masterpiece!!

  • @MrYorubaman AMEN TO THAT PATTI NEVER GOT THE LOVE SHE SHOULD HAVE PATTI&Q 4EVER!!!!!!

  • This song haunts me, takes me back to a time when all you needed was some time a radio, record player or tape recorder to be happy. The musical artists' producers today need to put quality over business and maybe music can be magical again.

  • @HobbsBhipp Today's musicians and the record executives are interested in style over substance

  • @DJKODIEBLAK You mean PATTI AUSTIN

  • @dal4018

    Yeh that's what i meant 1st time around..thanks for the correction : )

  • @DJKODIEBLAK No problem sir we both are fans of this underrated talent as I said before she's Q's GODDAUGHTER.

  • @DJKODIEBLAK Hey as stated before a full length feature film should be made about this multi layered musical icon.Who's your choice to play the role of a lifetime?

  • @HobbsBhipp AMEN to That!!

  • @HobbsBhipp producers have never put quality over business. The difference between now and then is people don't want to buy quality anymore.

  • @HobbsBhipp aww fucking shut up

  • @HobbsBhipp I totally agree!

  • @HobbsBhipp Imagine our world without this stuff-NO WAY! Unless a new artist of today can really grab me with her or his true creative genius, they can't hang with me. And thanks to this old stuff, I truly know the difference.

  • @HobbsBhipp Its up to the consumer, not the producer.

  • my mom used to play the mess out of this album. i learned to read album credits from this album(mom taught me. I miss you mom...)

  • @MrConqueror123 it is the best from your mom , reading the credits make you know what is music.

  • Wow This song brings back memories. I dedicate this to my Mom. Brings tears to my eyes. I Love you Mom

  • FANBLEEDINTASTIC!!!

  • I never get tired of listening to this song. I played it like crazy when it came out, and I still do today. Great post!

  • I totally agree with docdocdocbeat! Long live the true old school singers like Patti Austin and Chaka Khan!!

  • Muito Bom..

  • This singing is so beautiful,Patti Austin Or Chaka Khan whoops any of today's singers !!!

  • The best song on the dude and I love Patti's voice!

  • this lady is bad!!!

  • 0:22 [Le Knight Club - Coral Twist]

  • I love Patti Austin's voice!

  • Yeah!! thanx for this post..gee im sure i still got my "dude" tape lyin about somewhere..classic stuff the best!! and yeah Patti shes awesome as usual..ive got her tape with "believe the children"&"At the carnival"etc..cheers!!

  • This jazz fusion track is another one of my favorites from "The Dude", it's so smooth, and mellow, with a dab of funk added, and the exquisite vocals of the beautiful Patti Austin, this is certainly high end music from the 80's.
