By doing these can you improve on your military style push ups? I can do 45 of these but only 15 military style. I also feel that doing these regular ones give me a better work out because I can go longer.
@shagy2k5 Well just because you can go longer doesnt mean its a better workout for example. its better to do 10 reps of your max weight. then 30 reps of a weight that you can do easy. Because the 10 really hard ones work your muscles more.

Dude... if u keep doing it that way u will hurt urself. Make sure your wrists align with the rest of the arm, or you can get wristproblems... Thats the last thing you wanna get
You do not have to keep your head up, some say it gives you a straighter back which gives you better form, others say it causes kneck problems. Only thing I really worry about are my wrists. I don't think they were really made to take this kind of strain. Which is why I want to get the perfect push up handles. But I'm not fit enough to use them as they made push ups even harder than normal as you're going lower on each pushup.
But this guy in the video looks strong as a horse, well done.
@Nick1975D if you want to prevent carpotunnel do push ups on your fists and youll work your way up to using the perfect push ups in no time. id recommend doing them on soft carpet or even putting a pillow down to protect your knuckles.

I'm in the Army and they tell us when doing pushups to look straight forward. @6Soldier5 What Army are you in? The Canadian? PROPER US ARMY PUSHUPS requires you to lower yourself deep to where your chest is barely touching the ground and your arms are parallel with the ground. Both those are impossible to achieve if your head is HANGING down. Having your head hang down stops you from going all the way down, thus allowing you to do more. Do you GET IT now?

When I do pushups I go all the way down, bending my arms and then coming straight up making sure my arms are straight out in front of me the way I started. @t10h190 The taller you are the better it is to do WIDE ARM PUSHUPS. Those are catered more to tall people, such as myself. I'm 6'5" . I started off doing those now I can do all kinds of different ones. I Love doing Diamonds now.

@ssdaar If you're elbows are pointing outwards I believe it places more emphasis on you're chest. If elbows are by you're sides that should place more stress on you're triceps and maybe shoulders.

This is not good for your elbows in the long run, especially when you become an old man. Try beating your record on a sturdy table or stairs instead of straight on the floor. :)
correct form is is arms are parallel to the ground when he is down before he can come up. most youtube vids people only go half way, anybody can do a lot of those types push ups. arms lock out when he comes up, body is in a straight line. chest touches the ground to ensure he is going down far enough. very good push ups
doing them this way really kills your wrists. after years of doing them every time i bent at the wrists to do a pushup i felt horrible pain, doctor said that i was developing carpel tunnel from having my body weight pressing on my wrists all those years. i bought the perfect pushup and it sucks. i went from doing 50 or 60 at a time to doing 19-22 at a time. it is so much harder to do, i am wondering if the perfect pushup really works, although the pain in the wrists went away after a long time.
Im not trying to be mean but these are done way too fast, you are not using proper form. Real push ups are a slow up and down motion and are extremely painfull, if you can do 20 real push ups with no problems you're considered very strong and are ready for advanced push ups.
im starting to work out more now b/c its been to long. i do push ups everyday well try to. i do what he's doing anf then put my feet up on the stool and do them. I like it better that way. I know this is talking about push ups but Im just wondering I haven't bench press in four yrs and Im 21 now. I want to know how should i start back off like what to warm up with and how often should i do it till i can move up a little more?
Proper push-ups are much longer on the down. Doing them this fast doesn't allow your muscle to contract the full length, meaning that there is less stress put on them and less lactic acid will build up per rep. This is the equivalent of ~30 proper push-ups.
Really??? You guys saying your younger and can do alot doesn't mean anything he prolly has 3 times more weight on him then either of you 12 and 14 year old so stop bragging. That's like telling a 200 pound guy that you can do more chin ups then him when your only like 120 lbs.
@peleador1 do 20 on monday, 21 on wed and 22 on fri. rest over weekend. then monday to 23, wed do 24, fri do 25. etc. you may want to change that days you do depending on your other workouts if you do them. the important thing to do is to reach failure (really push yourself) and ensure your muscles get enough rest, for pushups its about 2 days (for me anyway). Hope this helps let me know how many you can do in two months time!

OMG! Thanks for ACTUALLY doing REAL pushups. For me, a pushup is chest to the floor, elbows locked at the top. Anything else just starts to get sloppier as fatigue sets in. Set a real standard and stick to it. Good work.

I appreciate your correct push-ups, however, it doesn't really matter how fast your doing them — you should keep the same speed the entire exercise, inhale when you go down and exhale when you push-up or vice-versa.

Hands way too far apart... and if you're doing them at this speed, momentum does most of the work, and not your muscles. Very bad technique.

Im not trying to be mean but these are done way too fast, you are not using proper form. Real push ups are a slow up and down motion and are extremely painfull, if you can do 20 real push ups with no problems you're considered very strong and are ready for advanced push ups.

im starting to work out more now b/c its been to long. i do push ups everyday well try to. i do what he's doing anf then put my feet up on the stool and do them. I like it better that way. I know this is talking about push ups but Im just wondering I haven't bench press in four yrs and Im 21 now. I want to know how should i start back off like what to warm up with and how often should i do it till i can move up a little more?

Proper push-ups are much longer on the down. Doing them this fast doesn't allow your muscle to contract the full length, meaning that there is less stress put on them and less lactic acid will build up per rep. This is the equivalent of ~30 proper push-ups.

@peleador1 do 20 on monday, 21 on wed and 22 on fri. rest over weekend. then monday to 23, wed do 24, fri do 25. etc. you may want to change that days you do depending on your other workouts if you do them. the important thing to do is to reach failure (really push yourself) and ensure your muscles get enough rest, for pushups its about 2 days (for me anyway). Hope this helps let me know how many you can do in two months time!

I was doubting for a while anyone could do 50 army level pushups consecutively without stopping, obviously I need to train harder!
A full for me is not chest hitting ground, but your arms leveling out at 90 degrees and then locking out arms at top.

And when I show them ho you realy would do them (im does this that I filling in with another one each day. OMG! Thanks for ACTUALLY doing REAL pushups. For me, a pushup is chest to the floor, elbows locked at the top. Anything else just starts to get sloppier as fatigue sets in. Set a real standard and stick to it. Good work.

I appreciate your correct push-ups, however, it doesn't really matter how fast your doing them — you should keep the same speed the entire exercise, inhale when you go down and exhale when you push-up or vice-versa.
Overall your in good shape, keep up the good work!
