@MNherpexpert Have you tried thawing a mouse with the rat? I've heard you can do that and when you feed him the rat he'll strike because of the slight mouse smell, and after that he'll know rats=food. Haven't tried it with mine yet tho so I don't know for sure if it'll work.

This routine feeding of rats breed for such a thing is fine. Just stay away from my pet rats, or I'll chop your python into ;ittle bite sized pieces, and feed them to my German Shepard. Also be careful, many unsuspecting owners have been killed by their pythons attempting to feed live prey to them.

@Asianstargirl I think you are the one who needs to go back to school. If you feed a snake a frozen rodents, than your snake is dead. It's called frozen/THAWED for a reason. You thaw the mouse out in warm/hot water to simulate body temperature, and the snake eats. I feed live, but only if I have a picky eater or need to get a snake back into eating. If you feed live just because you can, then deep down inside you enjoy watching an animal die. Frozen is so much cheaper and easier.

Not to mention they're much cheaper when bought in bulk. You obviously did not read my comment though. @Asianstargirl There's a difference between watching snakes on Tv and breeding them for several years, you know. How would I trust you know more about snakes than me? The good feeders I have treat frozen rodents just like they would with live ones! And who said anything about just throwing the dead rat in? Obviously you know little about snakes, it's best to mimic movement with tongs. There's NOTHING natural about captivity, live is not needed. Snakes only want to get fed, not kill.

You can train them to take pre-killed mice and rats. The guy in the video may not be the best cameraman or have great taste in music, but he's right about not feeding them in their home cage. Third, the gonads are internal on the rat. They won't "pop out", but the anus swells up because of the constriction and the balls might be pushed there. And to those people who say this is barbaric... look at a slaughterhouse.
