@ala20011 It might also be a problem with your cd. Id recommend downloading the ubuntu iso and wubi.exe, place them in the same folder (ie downloads folder), and run the wubi.exe
@winsevenholic Im having a hard time understanding your english. What's DAP? I say use the wubi.exe because I suspect something is wrong with your ubuntu cd. Or your Windows account isn't the administrator account.
i have a problem on ubuntu i've not been able to figure out. when i click on places then click on any of the first six icons i get a window.. that says.... . ....(There was an error installing the selected file) {what ever i clicked on} does not appear to be a valid theme behind it i get the appearance preference window that pops up also
what did i do wrong ? what can i do to fix it ? thanks for your help
@thejoesteiger not sure how else to explain it's not doing what it should be doing when i go into places then click on almost anything in there i get a different window rather than going into pictures like its supposed to, its either blank or it pops up wth two windows saying : (first line) there was an error installing the selected file. (second line) does not appear to be a valid theme .....don't
know what i did wrong maybe reinstall in the boot menu ?
@thejoesteiger i deleted it when my computer started getting lsgish on my windows os and id reinstalled it a few more times after that it was fine until the last time i tryd to uninstall it
Wait...If u do this, can i access files saved to windows, because i dont think 30 gb will be enough for Liniux (aka if i have doca in my documents on windows, can i open that in Ubuntu?)
@mkpres123 I'm sorry, it seems you can only access Windows drive with a regular ubuntu dual boot, not Wubi. To do this, you go to places, and click on your Windows drive. Then navigate through the folders to your files.
@thejoesteiger wait...since i am creating ubuntu on the C drive, cant i go into windows and manually copy and paste certain files into the UBUNTU folder?
@mkpres123 ok, what you can do is, go to your home folder under the places menu. Press control L. You will see Location: /home/joe <--just not joe, it will be your username. Backspace and type /host
hit enter.
Go to the users folder, click your Windows user (in my case it is also Joe), there you should have all your Windows user files.
Hey I need help I installed ubuntu inside of windows but when I turn on my computer it does not give me the option between windows and ubuntu and just goes straight to ubuntu
@thejoesteiger yes with the cd and i have only one harddrive and windows is missing it does not give me the option of going to windows just goes to ubuntu help pleae dude...!
@ThePincheguey26 hmm, this is not a problem I am familiar with. If you have a Windows cd, you can restore Windows' boot. I don't see how with Wubi you could have totally removed Windows. Ask on ubuntuforums(dot)org
@CurtJames93 What type of internet connection do you have? Wireless? Click the network icon on the top right hand side of the screen, select your network.
@thejoesteiger When I mouse over the "bar signal" with a red exclamation mark, it says "network disabled and Wireless networks - firmware missing". im stealing my neighbors wifi. im on a dell inspiron 1545 laptop.
@CurtJames93 hmm, not that i approve of stealing people's internet...right click on the icon and enable wireless/network...i forget what it says. My computer isn't on.
@CurtJames93 I did some research. For your computer, you will need to plug it into the router to get internet, download and install the wireless drivers for your computer, then you will be able to use wireless.
help 2.14 when i select ubuntu a message showed up and said to me to reboot to windows and run ---> chkdsk /r and that will fix my problem but this message is still showed up please help me
If you had downloaded all the files onto a USB, copy them and paste into a folder (I just put it in a "wubi" folder on my desktop). Once all copied, take the USB out and run the Wubi exe file. It should download Ubuntu onto your computer like normal. After all is said and done, you can just delete or move the copied files.
I have my 10.10 on a usb, and when I put it in and run the wubi installer it doesn't give me the option to install inside windows. Is there a reason for this?
@Voltaire7 i look into this when i get home monday. I don't think if you put ubuntu on usb you get to use wubi. I believe you either need a cd or the wubi installer from ubuntu's website. Not sure. Never tried usb for wubi.
@118Cheeseoid I cheated. I have Windows 7 installed in VirtualBox so i was able to record with recordmydestop. You can also use camstudio or camtasia for Windows.

Anthestudios 7 months ago
@Anthestudios Doing this kind of stuff is never 100% safe. With that being said, using Wubi is probably the most foolproof way of doing it.
thejoesteiger 7 months ago
@thejoesteiger I installed it yesterday. Updating Ubuntu is safe this way too ?
Anthestudios 7 months ago
@Anthestudios No, don't upgrade Wubi. It causes issues.

@thejoesteiger I mean, installing software like Gimp and Audacity. Installing drivers and etc.
