so if i wanted to replace my earpads for ath-a900 where can i get them and should i just get the same model pads or would a different model be better. These ones the only thing left is the foam the outside has peeled away. I saw like audiocubes2 maybe. Cord is kinda rolling up too. This video doesn't make it look too hard to replace them for a novice.
@cgent55 You certainly can! The A700 is a full-size AT and as such can accommodate any of the other full-size AT earpads. If you wanted to go full out, you could even order the luxurious ATH-L3000 lambskin earpads and put them on the A700. Feel free to contact us at support@kuboten.com if you need help ordering.
@KUBOTENoCOM Are there any replacements for the W1000X? I know that the pads from the AT-L3000 will do and the pads for the W5000x will also work, but at a price of $100, it is a bit much :(
Thank you for this great review! I lived in Japan for seven years and have a wonderful pair of ATH-A100Ti (25th Anniversary Edition) cans. Unfortunately, just as your video displayed, my pads started pooping recently. Actually, it was more like diarrhea, as the pads seemed to spontaneously disintegrate. I am having a very hard time finding replacement pads for this particular headphone, and I am interested in purchasing something like the ATH W11-JPM suede pads, if possible. Can you help?
Thanks for commenting on our earpad replacement video! The ATH-SJ55 does have replacements available from Audio Technica Japan, but due to the current strength of the yen they are pretty expensive. If ordering through us, it'd cost about $40 or so shipped currently.
I just checked on eBay and there are actually some SJ55 replacement pads from a seller in China (not related to us) fairly cheaply, though they are not true Audio Technica pads and I can't vouch for their quality or sizing as I've not tried them.
I hope this helps, and happy future health and longevity to your headphones!
When you switch to suede pads, did you notice a reduction in bass at all? The leather/leatherette pads probably provided a better seal on the users head. Being a closed headphone, the better the seal, the more bass. I realize bass is most definitely not everything. However, a reduction in bass could boast the midrange even more, and even reveal more highs - basically changing the personality of the cans.
Did you notice this at all with these velour pads?
@Bhodisatvas Hi there, I don't remember the exact name of the title and don't have my music library in front of me to search for it... but I'm pretty sure it came off something from the Morr Music label. If I come across it again I'll definitely post it here!
@KUBOTENoCOM Hi! I just got the ATH-AD900 and i've found the the ear pads that came with it are not that comfortable! My ear touches the driver... Not good for long periods of time :/ Do you have an ear pad replacement? Thanks!
@dOobRANDOM Hi there! Nice choice on the headphones! I'm not sure that the other AT earpads are much thicker than the original, but some of the leather choices like the W5000 and ATH-L3000 earpads will fit the headphones and may be a little stiffer.
I think you may be better off trying a pad mod though if your ears are touching the drivers. Try removing the pads and seeing if there's anyway to put a thin layer of stiff foam or something in there to give a little more distance.
I just changed the pads on my ath-w100 and ath- w11jpn,it was a freakin' nightmare!!! It took about an hour,I wish I would've came across your vid earlier.
Hmmm.. Good question! AT does not list the ATH-6 or any other electret headphones on their parts website at this time -- it may be worth sending them a question about it to see if they would fit the other full-size ATH models or if they still carry pads for them. Please send us an email to our support address at kuboten and we'll be able to better serve you. :)
The m50's use a slightly different longer pad than the ATH-W and ATH-A series, so these pads won't fit properly. However, you can get replacement M50 pads if your old pads need to be changed.
@KUBOTENoCOM do you know where we could get replacements fir the m50s? i have emailed the support team about it, all they said was "give us your credit card info and your address" lol so yea, pretty shady. any ideas?
@meegel Hi there, who did you contact regarding the ordering of the pads? Did you try to contact Audio Technica and you received that type of response? That's quite odd.
If you ever need anything else from Japan, please feel free to let us know!
@meegel I'd give their direct customer support a ring. I've read that they don't list them on their site, but do in fact sell them. If that doesn't work, talk to a local audio shop and see if they can order them for you through an authorised reseller's account.
Or, you could do a quick mod and be using some velour pads. Reply if you want more info on this.
@KUBOTENoCOM nevermind that question! i found some at sweetwater :P but its really odd they asked me for that kind of info without any sort of verification or any protection on my part.
Hey, great video! I bough the Audio Technica ATH-A700 Closed-Back headphones and absolutely love the sound, but hate the faux leathery ear pads. I sweat a lot and they eliminate all airflow and heat up much faster than the felt/suede ones. Do the cloth W11JPN pads fit the ATH-A700 headphones? thanks and sorry if you already answered this
if the first thing you listen to is a high quality file in the Classical Genre, you'll probably cry it's so beautiful :D I love them, but they get too hot on my ears, prohibiting me to do anything with them for extended periods. Other than that, their pinpoint exact for finding footsteps in game, as well as hearing ALL the instruments/ sounds in a file. I listened to Sandstorm by Darude and i heard nuances that just aren't there without high quality Headphones. Just buy them! :D
Yes, the W11JPN pads will fit the A500's as well. It's pretty awesome of Audio Technica that they basically made all their full-size headphones pad-interchangeable.

I have started to peel off the gunk. Kind of ugly, buy it's better than having the stuff in your hair and around your ears. . .

I have an old pair of AT headphones. And the POOPED on my head for months!
The super thin black exterior has TOTALLY worn off, and now only foam is left; so no more poop! I have used these cans like this for like 5 years!
