i get what your problem is.. you are tapping to slow and too strong. be a little more softer but still firm. keep your fingers kind of loose... dont press down with your finger but have the power in your wrist instead of your fingers. man this is really hard to explain.

Okay so when your tapping thing, are you playing the notes that youre striking or are you playing the notes that youre fretting with your left hand?
I know it sounds retarded to ask but Im asking because when I try this I just end up playing the note that im striking with my right hand lol.

I think I understand.
Hit it soft enough that it doesnt cut off the strings vibration at the fret im striking right?
But hard enough to vibrate up to the notes where my left hand is fretting them?
