While 1978 was bumper year for chart music, I've never heard this before. It's awful and I don't think it was a hit in the UK (it wouldn't have got airplay on any radio station) but I can understand it being popular in Europe.

@frans251270 - Sorry, the UK is part of the continent of Europe and always has been. However, because it's an island the radio stations (especially the BBC) have always been isolated from other countries on the European mainland and arrogantly considered themselves to have better musical taste than the French, Italians, Spanish, Dutch, Germans, etc. Having said that, the French feel that about everything they do despite not being an island.
