Man I wish we had a authentic Mexican restaurant around where I live. I've only had authentic Mexican once, and it was really awesome and different compared to the "Americanized Mexican" dishes that are common in my area of Central Illinois.
certain regions of mexico do use oregano in pozole. some regions i have learned use lettuce instead of cabbage garnish. what ever you enjoy in it as a garnish is good. its a very hearty and delicious dish and for nay sayers you have to just try it, simple as that. i made it for some friends that had never had it and they were hooked. they even asked for my recipe!

Regarding 420herbs' comments. I've been eating pozole some 50 plus years. Pork in pozole has to be cooked really well just like chicken in chicken soup. If you undercook the chicken, or pork, you're subject to get salmonella poisoning. Marrano is not the proper term for pork. Carne de puerco is meat from a pig or hog. Marrano is the animal. Also the adjective for someone dirty, as in "es un marrano/es una marrana".
