As a Marine stationed @ camp pendleton I've qualified on three of the ranges on the base including the one depicted here in the video it was one of the funest things I did as a Marine I really miss the qual week. I was actually battalion high shooter on the old k.d. course with a score of 243 while swrving with 3/11 @las pulgas in 87 then the very next range detail somebody beat that score by one point and he got the award

OCABJ. Fun to see your stage of fire here. I have called Wilcox home before. I am/was a member of the USMC Quantico Team in 84. I qualified first from Wilcox while living at Camp Margarita next door. Your vid brings back many memories. Good luck with your shooting. Thanks for sharing. Keep an accurate log of "every" shot it is one of your best friends... I still look over mine from time to time.

FYI: Jim Minturn was on the California Junior team that won the 2009 National Trophy Infantry Team match this year at the National Matches at Camp Perry. First civilian team to the NTIT since 1930.

The log book is only for recording windage,light conditions, dope, and score. You should have a load settled and never change it. Spending time writing down all those dots keeps your mind off the technique of keeping that front sight steady.

It's a good idea for most people to record shots, at least for rapid fire. Especially since zeros do change, even a windage zero.

Although, I do agree that it's probably not beneficial to record shots during slow fire standing (but record call).

I have a question. My local rifle range is having a nra sanctioned high power league. My question is even tho they say any military style centerfire rifle, in safe operating condition, may be used. Is there a certain model of AR-15 that should be used or can I use just for instance a Panther Classic with out any modifications. I don't have a AR-15, I'm looking for one and that was just one of them I was looking at.

Technically, High Power Service Rifle legal guns should be the A2 design (20" with an A1 or A2 buttstock). Must have a carry handle, fixed or detachable. Any other AR would be considered "match rifle". For example, an AR15 with a 16" barrel and A2 carry handle would not be considered "Service Rifle" and be categorized as "Match Rifle".

It's just a typical National Match legal AR15. I believe he's using a White Oak Armament SR upper.
