We installed a recycled and rebuilt Wicks (op.3850) in 1999. It was 20 ranks when we bought it and 30 when we installed it. All the added pipework was used. The work was done by Wicks. And yes, we had a stuck treble during the dedicatory recital. The recitalist joked about it, found it and keyed it and it stopped. We had some lightening storms which took out some fuses in the solid state relay - replaced them myself. The organ has been very reliable. The spec can be found on Wicks' web site.
An amazing piece of work, and how you kept people from jiggling, or moving, your tripod is beyond me! This was done over weeks, rather than days, right?
@eelgar1857 Yeah, it took over a month to complete. Believe it or not, I had to take the camera down every Sunday for church services too! I built a special mounting bracket that slipped over the back of a pew and basically locked the web cam into a fixed position. That way I could carefully take it down for church services and get it back to the exact same spot again. I also had yellow caution tape all around it to ensure it wasn't accidentally bumped.
The organ is holding up wonderfully. We had issues with pipes getting stuck for the first few months, but I guess that's typical for a new organ. I don't think we've had that happen in the past 8-9 months since then.
@MrBrysonD As far as I know we've had no problems since the break-in period (turns out valves get stuck a lot on new organs as they get settled in...but that was all covered under the install).
fascinating. How many days did this stop motion video cover? How about a video of the sound of the final product? Given that this is op. 4400, is it a rebuild? How much is new pipework?
4400 was originally built for the Wicks studio in the early 60s and used as a demo instrument. It is rebuilt, in new casework, pipework rescaled and revoiced. Installation took approx 3.5 weeks.
