  • Oh this is the modernized Scots arrangement, which, back in the day, R. Burns never reworked to my knowledge (as he did to so many others). I do like the Geordie version better, with verses by the 18th Century Fiddler, Blind Willie Purvis. Check out this song by The Highlevel Ranters of Newcastle on Tyne. They always got the crowd to join in on the chorus:

    "Buy Broom Buzzums (a broom made from the Broom plant) buy them when they're New.

    Fine heather bred 'uns, better never Grew !"
