  • Beautiful song

  • Any chance you might upload Gulf Coast Highway from Little Love Affairs?

  • Part of the melody is The Who's Baba O Reilly If I'm not mistaken.

  • Dang ! She tore this one up ! ! Didn't know she had this in her. Never heard her this wild. What a kick ass version. As good as any version I ever heard. She is one of the most gifted/talented, bar none!

  • Another wonderful song by my precious, Nanci. I wish that someone would post her song "Song for Mother." If you ever listen to it, and the tears do not stream like a river, down your face, you have neither a soul, or a heart!!

  • I feel like this is the first time I've heard Nanci sing this song, but when I was a child and I heard Suzy Boggus sing it I somehow knew it was Nanci's song... so I guess I'd heard it before at some point.

  • Okay, fine, Suzy or Nanci, now to the important stuff...am I the only one who thought the cover art to "Little Love Affairs" was coyly erotic....the classic school girl outfit surrounded by that field of pink and Nanci always with that fair skinned little round face....okay, I didn't say that out loud...but am I the only one thinking it? ;-) Fine, leaving the sexist remarks aside, she is one hell of a songwriter and artist, but we all know that...back to the important stuff...

  • totaly loving my listen to this recording. WTG!!! thumbs up and a round of applause.

  • hi everyone, i used to have a tape by nancy, it was brilliant, there was a song i think called tumble and fall , i cant find it anywhere, does anyone know where or what it is, thanks Jaq

  • I vote Suzy. I enjoy the smoothness of Suzy's voice, not this cat scratch voice. Kinda creepy actually. A cat dying in the background while nails are drug across a blackboard. Not diggin it. But thats me. And dont comment saying im wrong cause i dont give a damn

  • I think Suzy's version is every bit as good as this one. A a good song is a good song, period.

  • Now you nailed that one after hearing this one had to sub your site. Thanks for a great rendition.

  • Saw Nanci live last night in Bexhill, when she sung this song, the whole place stood up and went crazy! She's amazing! :)

  • Seeing as how Nanci actually co-wrote this song (with Tom Russell), it would seem to me that she can do this song any way she wants.

  • Really? Racism is so....dumb

  • This is much like Achy Breaky HEart. Few know that the Marcy Brothers did a version (entitled Don't Tell My Heart) four years before Billy Ray.

  • Motorhead would do it best

  • Nothing wrong w/ Suzy's version, but I don't think her chops are any better than Nanci's. It is just a matter of personal taste. I prefer Nanci's version of this song.

  • Nanci is one of the most talented and underappreciated American singer/songwriters ever. Everything a reflexion of what she sees, thinks and feels. Many of her songs have been covered very well, but there is only one Nanci and she should be revered like joni mitchell, carol king and judy collins. Whether you like them or not, ya just got to give them credit!

  • @dhm1017 "the best kept secret is the one kept in the human heart

she won me favor with her smile and then her songs by art

i heard the funny sounds she'd make just when she' twitch her nose

and watched her laughter while she spun her yarn this Texas rose

her song like wine at Cana's dance just when the wine ran low

the best was saved until the last her song like wine you know

  • What a discussion! Suzy and Nancy do it better than me....and you...!

  • well heres an unbiased opinion compared to almost everyones in here Nanci did a great job on this but lets be honest suzy's vocals are quite alot better the whole song just flows better with suzy singing it

  • But Suzi doesn't belt and sound emphatic. And Suzi doesn't have James Hooker playing piano. Check out the last few seconds of this thread. This version has a driving rhythm and energy Suzi will never have. Suzi was cute though.

  • We love ya Nanc!!!

  • my aunt used to play this tape or me when i was little. it's been long lost and i've only rediscovered nanci and her music very recently. this song brings back such fond memories.

  • Nanci should be declared a national treasure.

  • Just great!!! I love Nanci.....

  • where is suzy bogguss

  • This is the original version of this song, sung by the songwriter Nanci Griffith.

  • Nanci's version is FAR superior to Bogguss's version

  • I'll agree to that, and I heard Suzy's version on country radio first. Nanci's just seems to have much more feeling to it.

  • AMEN!

  • I disagree. Suzy stayed true to Nanci`s style and her voice and arrangements were just fine. I`m a big fan of Nanci but Suzy did a fine job. I`m sure that Nanci was happy with all the records that Suzy sold for her.

  • sorry nanci is still the real thing

  • @davidsingleton332 Suzy, bless her lil ol' heart, did a smooth, too soft and polished version of a song that's supposed to impact us with raw, powerful emotion. It's meant to be belted out with indignation and impact. Oomph. To Nanci: been a fan since the late 80's and saw you in Atlanta on your Flyer tour. Saw you play Things We Said Today (Beatles) on a white Fender Strat. God woman, when you do a cover, even of the Beatles, you do it justice!

  • Criminally ignored classic

  • This can be said about Nanci's entire collection!

She is simply amazing.... that voice live in a theater is like nothing you will ever experience
