  • Ohio SUCKS ! I had to live in Dayton for 4 months and Id rather DIE than ever go back THERE. No ocean no beaches no boardwalks no casinos (on land) no horse racing NO THING IT SUCKS!

  • Jack Lemmon Is Legend :)

  • At 10:58 next to the bridge (right side) is where the WTC was in pre constuction.

  • Wow..that chicken dinner looks yummy. This is when flying was actually comfortable and pleasant. Now it's a sardine can in the sky.

  • No jetways, polite flight attendants, good food, no fatass people who CAN walk but want to feel "important" boarding a plane in a wheelchair before everybody else!

  • Good flick, doesn't bog down like MANY Neil Simon movies do. Jack and Sandy are excellent together. Two really fine actors.

  • I wonder if the 'Kellerman' surname was inspired by, actress Sally Kellerman? IDK!

  • I just love Jack Lemmon! He's so cute.

  • I was looking for this film three years! Thank you:)

  • LOVE this movie! Sandy is very good in this. But God how things have changed. And not for the better. Imagine getting a nice chicken dinner on a flight?! Or even coffee. Look how big and comfy those plane seats look. And remember big station wagons? We had a big Chrysler wagon just like there's. The good ole days did have some good stuff. Nice memories.

  • One ofr the best movies ever made...Love Sandy Dennis & Jack Lemmon!

  • ..Go, Quincy Jones !....

  • The opening song Sounds like the old Benson& hedges commercial song

  • THANK YOU, UPLOADER!!! This is a classic that always makes me laugh SO hard I nearly wet myself, haha... I know, too much information, LOL! Thanks so much for posting this great film!!! :)

  • 10:15. That is Ann Prentiss, Paula's kid sister. The facial and vocal resemblance is uncanny.

  • jack lemmon gives another great performance

  • My #1 favorite movie of all time!

  • oh my god i just noticed something, in those days most ppl didn't wear seatbelts lol oh crap

  • @marirod45

Yeah, from what I learned, they became mandatory later on in the 70s. Nowadays, driving without a seatbelt can get you pulled over by the cops.

  • i love this movie, i can't get enough of this lol. i love sandy dennis when she sees the garbage and says whoa, the expression is so funny, and when jack is in the street oops, won't say any more in case anyone has seen this movie for the first time. this movie is worth watching

  • Man, look at those cars!

  • He's making ME nervous.

  • RIP, Jack Lemmon, and, Sandy Dennis!

  • @DaveWollenberg I'd like to rip you

  • @MarcusAbad What's that mean?

  • @MarcusAbad RIP means, 'Rest in peace', you silly goose!

  • Quality film - so funny!

  • The perfect film to watch when things aren't going quite right. You watch it and all of a sudden the world really does seem a better place !

  • opening titles similar to the bill cosby show

  • 0 dislikes......The way it oughta be..........

  • At 7:26, if I was George, maybe I would have told Gwen to eat something small to munch on but not too much because of the dinner at the Four Seasons restaurant, just like he was planning.

  • She sure is, and she is very pretty.

  • this on is way better then the remake..... ohhhhhhh myyyyyy godddddddd

  • ha ha stupid nutty idiots make everyone laugh!!!! and thats all they're good for! Lemon plays a yelly imbecile from one of the worst states in the midwest (where clods, yokels , jerks and asses predominate ) and sandy denis is really good as a rather dumb childish housewife with barely a high school diploma. stuck in the world famous hell city they suffer one nasty mishap after another a real classic! saw it again on December 19, 2010! still good after all these years

  • @TheJoey1978

I niticed all that with the airlines in the movie and how things are so different today. especially with the smoking thing. *I'm a cigar smoker)

    by the way "Joey1978" - I was born in 1978! :-D

  • jack lemon was a great actor rest in peace what an icon in movies

  • I agree. It's sad that he died. Jack Lemmon was great in this movie, and some of the other movies that I saw him on were "Grumpy Old Men" and "Grumpier Old Men" and I know he was on the movie "Out To Sea" and I wanted to see it in the theaters but unfortunately, it was sold out the day I went. Since both Jack Lemmon and Walter Matheau are both friends, it would have been great if Walter Matheau was on this movie too. (Also, along with Jack Lemmon, may Walter Matheau rest in peace).

  • @afriendofbean

You're right about Jack Lemmon. I also had seen him in the two Grumpy Old Men movies. He and Walter Matthau were so wonderful in them. I have not seen Out To Sea however. Jack and Walter are still entertaining everyone and making everyone laugh on the other side. :)

  • I agree. Walter Matthau was also wonderful just like Jack Lemmon. I still never got to see "Out To Sea" but, now that it's on video, maybe I will either rent it or buy it. The other movie I saw Walter Matthau on was the movie "Dennis The Menance" where he played as George Wilson.

  • One of the Funniest movies of all time. Sandy Dennis is the key. She holds her own against Lemmon (Not an easy task) and is every bit as funny at times. Great Chemistry, great laughs all the way;)

  • this was filmed near my block. the ONLY copy i EVER saw that included shots of my street were the original film in 1969 and now THIS copy. please advise where you got it from?

my street was cut out of subsequent screenings and the DVD.....thanks

  • Continuity error when they pull over in the car at 3.52 the road ahead is a long straight road with no turnings. At 04.17 when they pull away they are just infront of a junction, at a completely different place.

  • The setup is wonderful. Couldn't be better.

  • Hit theaters in '70, but, the copyright was '69. God bless!

  • This is my favorite movie!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this. This film is nearly impossible to find.

  • @greatsajby No it's not. Try finding The April Fools.

  • I adore Quincy Jones' score!

  • @SIngli6 I completely agree. I enjoy this score and all of Neil's movies. Barefoot in the Park, Odd Couple, Out of Towners are all GREAT.

  • @Buffalobigboy69

An era of exemplary comedy. Though I would be reducing myself to hyperbole, I can confidently write that - with the exception of the works of the Coen Brothers, Francis Veber, Jonathan Lynn, and the Ealing-esque film 'Keeping Mum' - not a single, solitary moment of great comedy can be found in contemporary cinema!

  • absolutley hilarios lemmon, and doesnt his wife bear a strong resemblence to kylie minogue!

  • Arthur Hiller did a fantastic job directing this picture. Mr. Hiller also directed 'Love Story' in the same year as 'Out of Towners'. Mr. Hiller is from Edmonton, Canada and will be 87 years old in November, 2010.

  • Very funny movie good comedy

  • This is one of my favorites movies of Neil Simon's. Sandy Dennis & Jack Lemmon did a wonderful performance in it too. =)~

  • This is the best freakin movie ever made!!!

  • "Murphy's Law" at its MOST worst-case senerios!! "Murphy's Law" certainly has a grand "field day" with these two! Poor guys!!!

  • I love Sandy Dennis! She and Lemmon have awesome chemistry. (Maybe it's because they both studied under Uta Hagen?)

  • Haven't watched the end of this one yet, but (SPOILER ALERT) in the theater, the actual ending had Sandy Dennis not just saying "oh my god," but instead, "Oh my god, we're being hijacked." This was cut for TV, and ever since I have never seen a copy of the film with her full line at the end.

  • Note the following production error: at 3:50 he pulls the car over to talk and you can see a very rural setting out the windshield. Then at 4:16 he pulls away and you see an Airport Grill parking lot and Sinclair gas station that weren't there before.

  • You are so right. It has to be, one of the most, if not, the most overlooked comedy movie of all time.

  • I have a very old recording of this same movie, however, the intro music was totally different, it was all instrumental with no vocals. Is this the original version?

  • This is the original version. Some years ago, for some unknown reason, they changed the intro music, but, eventually went back to the original, which is this. But, all VHS and DVD copies of the film, have the original music. The only versions with the altered music, was the ones they showed on TV.

  • Thanks, that makes perfect sense. I recorded this movie off AMC about 10 years ago so that explains why its different. The altered TV version sounded good too.

  • Yes, it was on AMC and a few other TV stations. The altered music intro was a absolute horror!

  • @drh4683

Yeah, the altered version of the opening credits music wasn't too bad, but it gave the beginning somewhat of a nervousness. This original music is better, because it is more jolly and easier to listen to.

  • @DunhillHilton

Not true. I have a VHS copy of "The Out of Towners" with the altered intro music. I was shocked, years later, when I got the DVD and heard THIS music as the intro!

  • @drh4683

The version that you've got might have been recorded from TV. I myself had recorded it on TV years ago, and did notice that the intro music was as you said, very different. On the home video and DVD releases of the movie (and the movie being here on YouTube), the intro music is the original. Hope this helps! ;)

    -Matt

  • @drh4683

Yes, the music during the opening credits on this YouTube showing and on DVD and home video is the original version. I personally prefer this original music over the other one that was heard on TV showings of it. It kind of puzzles me as to why they used different sounding opening music for the TV showings. Anyway, I'm glad that this original "cheerful" sounding opening music is on the DVD release. ;)

  • Totally loving the music!

  • The remake was absolutely ridiculous !

  • Mine too! Did you see the remake from '98 with Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn? That one wasn't too bad, but I feel that this version from '70 was funny as hell.

  • @Matto2t

    '99 actually.

  • @SIngli6

    Thanks! :)

  • @Matto2t

    My pleasure.

  • Sandy could do wrong, as seen in this and in these movies ; "A cold day in the park" and of course "Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf " where she blended so well into the fabric of the Play. Miss You Sandy.

  • Sry, it should read, "that cold day in the Park"

  • Totally agree!

  • Thank you for putting this on here. I love this movie!!!

  • They should play the opening music in emergency rooms....

  • Yeah, maybe it will help the patients overcome whatever ailment they come with. ;)

    -Matt

  • Totally I love her! She is so adoreable. Brings such a joy to watch her.

  • Most of the the passengers were bringing at least one bag of some sort when they boarded the plane, but George trusted the airline with their bags, first sign of trouble ahead.

  • Thanks for the upload. I've been looking for this for a while, What a classic.

  • Lemmon comedic timing is one of the best things in the movie; the running gag of him taking names down for a lawsuit is funny.

Great upload. And thanks for the correct ratio & good quality too.

  • if sandy davis had another kid with jack lemmon they would be driving a cargo van not a station wagon...but, yeah love the movie

  • Ohh THANK YOU for posting the old one! Wow, such a classic!

  • Sandy Dennis is the BEST. LOVE HER!

  • I can verify that!

  • I totally agree!!!!!!!!

  • The greatest comedy movie of all time. Thank you.
