Have you thought about setting your fill mode to 'multiply' or similar, so that you can still use one colour to shade, but it will blend differently with the colours you already have in place?
I have to say that I really like your art, though to be honest I preffered it before you darkened it and blurred the shadows but that's just me. Have you ever done any tutorials? (Aside from speech bubble one)
I only found your comics today, read thru them all and id just like to say that you are an amazing artist, your comics are very well done and keep up all the good work :D
