  • yeah va is nice, depending on where you live.....not much to do where im from

  • It's great to live so close to where Columbus first arrived!

  • I was born in Alexandria, Virginia, a few blocks from Lee's boyhood home. I grew up playing on the lawn of Mount Vernon, George Washington's home. I spent many joyous fieldtrips in Williamsburg and Jamestowne. I always dreamed of having a library like Thomas Jefferson's. I would visit James Madison's home and imagine all of the trials and victories surrounding our constitution. I learned of pride, honour, duty, integrity, and loyalty from the lives of Virginians past. I am a Virginian.

  • God Bless Virginia.

  • @JuliusCaesar1914 Avoid Rome on march 15th :-)

  • fuck the niggers

  • Oh how I miss Virgina! I live in Texas and I have to say I hate it so much. I miss those green trees and green grass. All I have hear is bushes for trees and heat like hell. God bless Virginia and Fairfax county!!!!!

  • @NationalEvent12 I was born in Fairfax, and as Lee him self said "In who's defence alone shall I ever again draw my sword" Sic Semper Tyrannus

  • @NationalEvent12 But do you miss the high taxes and extreme prices of basic necessities that comes with living in Fairfax County (Which is 2nd only to Orange County, CA in terms of the costs of living)?

  • @JuliusCaesar1914 I live in North Virginia. When I was a little girl, it was a great place- elderly couples, big families... now that I'm fifteen, I'm noticing all these people coming in from DC. It's upsetting me. I don't want this beautiful place to change. =/

  • Me Born in Virginia...doesnt matter were i am ...i know where i belong..Sweet Virginia state of mine..God bless

  • love this version better than any other of carry me back to virginny

  • Born in New York, Raised in Virginia, I went back to NY recently and I fucking hate it, Virginia is my home.

  • virginia is a beautiful place and i am so proud to be a virginian, and also so proud we got rid of our racist state song

  • @gwennie47 not much of a history student are you? this was written by one of the most prolific songwriters - and an african american - based on stories told to him by his mother. not a racist line in it, simply gives a historical (and yes, romanticized) view of life before the WBTS.

  • @tgvva: A more obvious racism is hardly imaginable. That is true no matter who wrote it. A musician must please who pays for the tunes. For the content of this song you must look to its likely audience, not its author.

  • Ever smelled the Virgian Spring?

  • well i'am a proud VIRGINIA NATVIE AND THIS IS THE STATE I WANT TO LIVE AND DIE . GO VA

  • Comment removed

  • PS: GO VT HOKIES!!!!!!!

  • @trumpetSL08 I am a native of Northern Virginia, and yes its very yakeefied now, but it didn't used to be that way...

  • Ive been to Virginia and it is a beautiful state, And has a wonderful anthem!

  • I am Virginian born and raised. I love my state and when I listen to this song I am always brought to tears. God bless Virgnia. Sic Semper Tyrannis!

  • Of course a Virginian here. To me it will always be my state's song. I sing along with it, & can almost feel the longing James Bland had to have felt when he wrote it.

  • Long lives Alexandria-Old Town =')

  • Coming at you from Winchester, VA-Northern Shenandoah Valley. Boy do I love this state or should I say; boy do I love this Commonwealth. There is something here for everyone.

  • I was born in Berlin Germany 1938 and have heard this song the first time I was 2 years old. Now , with 72 years I remembered and tried to find this song and now I found it. I am happy !

  • love virginia with all my heart

  • @rrzzrr12345 I also , I was born 1938 in Berlin and I heard this song when I was 2 years old and now I found it under You Tube. I am happy.

  • Although I left Virginia when I was young, I'll someday return to my home state and serve my country and my state with all my strength I've got.

    Smithfield ham, here I come!!

  • I live in Fredericksburg. since 1994.

  • I ran out of characters on the first post but I'll finish here -

I saw Freddy on a return trip but later heard he passed away. One of his wishes was to visit Virginia. He never got to Virginia but if God in all His goodness will grant Freddy a wish, may He let his spirit visit Virginia before he takes his permanant home in heaven.

  • I was visiting in London some years ago and went into the Albert Arms pub near Elephant and Castle. I got into a conversation with a very old gentleman named Freddy who asked me where I was from. i told him Virginia. To my astonishment Freddy then stood up in the pub and sang Carry Me Back to Old Virginia. He didn't miss a verse.

  • i was born and live in virginia

  • I didn't know this song was written by a slave. Interesting.

  • The Commonwealth of Virginia. Its this place which i live, and dearly love. Never will i forget my old home state, no matter how far i may roam. May the Commonwealth live on, long after I am gone. Sic Semper Tyrannus

  • Love the south , and born in VA :)

  • VIRGINIA!!!!!!!

  • born in virginia

  • I LOVE Virginia.

  • I am New York born and bred. But 3 months ago, my wife and I spent several days in Virginia AND FELL IN LOVE WITH IT! How blessed you virginians are to live in such a place!

  • @rebsiegel Why don't you guys move there?.. virginia is looking for a lot of workers you could find a job easy.

  • @rebsiegel if you want to a beatiful place in va go to the natural birdage an in autum go to ronake and watch to leaves change colors

  • @rebsiegel thank you but please don't move here you Yankees have ruined Florida already by building all those damn condos and golf stuff and i don't want that to happen to Virgina

  • @496gonfishin sorry but its already happened to Virginia . I was raised in Northern Virginia and it was already getting bad when I was growing up (born in '79). So its a mess. But there are some nice areas such as Richmond, Charlottesville, Williamsburg, Danville, Shenandoah Valley, etc. I dont mind yankees at all! Just dont like it when they tell us we're all backwards and wrong.

  • @VASINGER agreed

  • @rebsiegel I married a yankee ( from PA) i am from delaware and fell in love with virginia too.

  • @rebsiegel I moved to Virginia from Andover, New York in Allegany County. I have to tell ya, Virginia is surly one of the best states to live in the south, I'm living in Clifton Forge, Virginia about an hour west of Lexington near the West Virginia state line and about 2 and half hours north of Roanoke. If you get a change look up Falling Springs Virginia you'll see the famous water fall in Western Virginia just north of where I live, it's breath taking to see in person.

  • @anthemsguy2008 My Great granddaddy lives in Glen Wilton, which is in Clifton forge and my grandparents live in Bath County . Just goes to show it is a small world afterall :)

  • @rebsiegel y thank you we do have alot of good attractions down here in Williamsburg Virginia

  • @rebsiegel Come and stay a while....just leave your yankee ways at the line please!

  • @rebsiegel Save for all the taxes we pay, including the 5% annual Personal Property Tax on the book value of each vehicle one owns (Certain exceptions to reduce the amounts owed are available depending on the vehicle's use), and Fairfax County in Northern Virginia is the second most expensive place to live after Orange County, CA for the cost of living (taxes, property prices, food costs, etc).

  • Go VA! I was born and raised in VA and I'm very proud of my state. Best state in America. I wish this was still our state song. I hate political correctness.

  • Me too! What part? I was born in Newport News, but raised in Yorktown and Gloucester. Sadly, I am in FL now... Can't wait to get back up there.

  • Nicely done. Virginia truly is a great state with a great history. Like every other state and the Union, it has episodes in its history to be ashamed of, but it has so much more to be proud of. This song for me is about the proud history of Virginia; it's not about racism. It's about a proud people that stood against tyranny and imposed control from Washington, and I hope it always stands against that.

  • VA! Best state in the United States! :D

  • is this still the official state song? I was told once it was being removed over some politically correct issue

  • No, it's now the official former state song. But since there is no official state song currently, it pretty much is.

  • was it all kind of crap over the past issues with the war between the states? I am getting so sick of that crap. Confederate history is a part of american history yet people want to shun it. Redesign state flags without citizens ok and the like.

  • I know what you mean, sir. Virginia chose to secede in 1861, and paid a high price for her staunch loyalty to the Confederate States. I refuse to believe that my state was wrong in making that decision. It is a part of our past, and being proud or ashamed of it should be up to the individual. The state song was written in stereotypical 'darky talk' originally, and uses the word a few times, so political correctness **** mandated it be removed or altered.

  • Back then that wasn't a foul word though. Times were different.

  • Virginias secession in 1861 was a reaction. Virginia chose to defend the side that had been attacked (and was about to be invaded). People forget Ft. Sumpter is in South Carolina and they had every right to defend their fort. Arkansas, Tennesse and North Carolina left for this reason too. Those 4 states were all strong prounion prior. It's like Lee said, he couldn't raise his sword to kill fellow Americans.

  • Kentucky, Maryland, and Missouri, were invaded to prevent them from seceding.

  • Something I cannot understand, however, is this- a version of "Carry Me Back To Old Virginia", one totally devoid of even potentially racist lyrics, was proposed and rejected in state legislature. Virginia has since been making efforts to find a new state song, efforts that are going nowhere. I've reviewed the current candidates, and I can say that Virginia doesn't need a new song. The one we already have is perfect, yet for some reason political correctness struck and had it removed.

  • It's all about power and trying to cover up history. We have to stop it ourselves, everybody deserves true unbiased history.

  • and it still should be the state song of Virginia.

  • The state of Virginia is where most of the cival war was fought, and so you know, west Virginia is the same as Virginia, but seperate, and with a different governer, they once used to be together. So up yo ass!

  • It wasn't a civil war it was a war of northern aggression. South wanted (and still wants) out.

  • God Bless America! God Bless Virginia! Home Sweet Home!

  • I'm from Idaho, and god Virginia is a much more lively state... Idaho is just dead...

  • Be proud of the state you're from, man! If you were born there, that's your home state, and it should be as close to you as a mother.

  • If the song does have lyrics the owner of the video should upload another video with the lyrics.

  • Long live the Commenwealth of Virginia. Nice song where are the lyrics. Does the song have lyrics?

  • Yes, it does. You can see them on the top right section of the page, but they are obviously not used in this video.

  • I think you mean, YOU suck. How many accounts have you lost so far, moron? I think you're up to, what, five? It must be tough having to replace your eight fake accounts every few weeks.

  • Hater, I guess looking at black folks as human is something far beyond what you're mind is capable of.

  • vcu

  • Can it, boy. You're just jealous because you could never get into the lowliest community college, let alone a good, respectable one like VCU! They'd never take trash like you, so go on being jealous. You should probably fish a newspaper out of a trash can and try finding a job, prick.

  • No, you couldn't. And you haven't. I thought we already established that, Bubba.

  • Dude maybe he"s just racist and can get into a school like UC Berkley or Virginia.

  • Do you have a job? Do you even have a house or a teeny weeny cheesebox of an apartment to sleep in at night? To call you a loser would be to insult the true losers and ditchdiggers of this world.

  • United we stand, Divided we are.

  • oh yeah the midwest is so much better? i moved to illinois from va, and i miss va terribly. fuck the midwest. jobs? ha what jobs? fairfax county, va is the richest county in the usa dipshit! FUCK THE MIDWEST!

  • Va.....home the the richest county in the country, some damn fine wine, great mountains and beaches, wtf am i doing living in illinois....i miss my home, VIRGINIA!

  • Illinois in particular.

  • you live in Virginia? VCU is a good school but Harvard, Yale, and UC Berkley are way better than VCU, but VCU is still a good school.

  • I agree but overall Virgina has some of the finest colleges overall in the country. JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY, UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA, VIRGINIA TECH, WILLIAM AND MARY, VCU, GEORGE MASON, ODU, and several more.

  • Absolutely, but the Ivy League schools are better than just about everybody, and they know it, too. VMI and The Citadel are also known for their immense faith in their own way of doing things, but they're different from places like Harvard.

  • okay

    that was really fucked up

  • what was

  • Ol Miss

  • kay

  • you live in Virginia

  • I would accept that as a compliment to my home state more willingly if you could spell the bloody name right. Fix your grammar, please.

  • Behold the colors of our beloved Commonwealth boys! Salute!

Never have I known a flag so worthy of the salute, a state so worthy of my undying affection. Virginia is where I was born, where I have lived for 18 years, and it is where I will always return to whenever I have had to leave.

As another user said of Virginia once-

    "God, Family, Virginia".

  • Guess wat newzealand, virginia sais fuck you right back, and so do i!

  • We Virginians don't have to answer to worthless, unemployed racists like you. There is a long, *long* list of things that are good about Virginia, and if you can't find it that's your problem. Get lost already and find something better to do until your account gets shut down again.

  • Virginia was the first state to outlaw the slave trade. Any slave coming off of any ship in virginia was automatically free thanks to patrick henry a founding father after the revolutionary war. Virginia is a fine state. Texas is my home state. God Bless the Southland home of love and kindness.

  • If you're criticizing us for being standoffish and cold towards a person like you, don't be surprised if most people in the other 49 states treat your bigoted, one-brain celled-self the same way.

  • More southron? LOL West Virginia was created illegally by Yankees.

  • That's debatable. West Virginia was formed when its counties decided they disagreed with Richmond's decision to secede and join the Confederate States. They seceded themselves and asked to stay within the US as a separate state, a request Washington granted. That was their decision, though I'm curious as to why that was legal and secession is otherwise condemned by Unionists.

  • It's only legal to Unionists when they have something to gain. Secession is the right of all free people. Jefferson, Washington, Madison, all the founding fathers believed in secession that's how we got away from england, By seceding from the empire. There's nothing wrong with the principle, regardless of what Unionists try to tell you. The rest of the world does it all the time.

  • carry me back to old virginny, theres where the cotton and the corn and totoes grow, theres where the birds warble sweet in the springtime, theres where this old darkey's heart am long'd to go.
