Dick: I disagree since according to research, the average wage earner pays in about $55000 to Medicare but takes out on average nearly $155000. This is NOT sustainable especially since the rate of retirement of baby boomers will increase in pace in the next 10 years not stay the same. True Medicaid is also out of control and also will increase quickly with Obama care. SS on the other hand is a poor deal for us since we pay in more on average than we take out, address this please.
Health insurance companies are PREDATORS...YES..They watch MEDICARE pay BILLIONS of dollars each year and they WANT that money....If YOU and I don't put a stop to it the REPUBLICANS will DESTROY MEDICARE & funnel the BILLIONS to the insurance companies....MEDICARE must not be touched...Tell your FRIENDS FAMILY, CONGREGATION, CONGRESSMAN,..... EVERYONE!! THAT YOU WILL NOT LET THE REPUBLICAN GANGSTERS STEAL YOUR MEDICARE AND THAT OF YOUR CHILDREN.
Dick, as usual, you have injected common sense into vial of idealogical purity. What Republicans fail to understand but the Democrats fully understand is the notion of incrementalism. Politically, you cannot boil the ocean. You have to take step 1 then step 2 then step 3. Giving Democrats new life by letting them demagogue Medicare in the coming election will probably give the White House to Obama for 4 more years and ensure the continuance of a Democratic Senate.
EVERY battle worth fighting should be fought. Isn’t what is right - right? Battles like Medicare, social security, obamacare, taxes, tarp, etc. etc.
I have read your books and all your videos and consider myself somewhat informed. Please show some spine. Is there anyone out there that can talk like Trump and be a true conservative?
I think he's right, we can enfasize other entitlements and discuss Medicare in another time and venue. We KNOW it has to be redesigned to make sure it will be there for our future, children and grandchildren, but NOT RIGHT NOW! Ryan's budget proposal is great, but wouldn't go into effect until 2022, so why talk about it NOW?
I'm writing my reps and senators to ask them to do this.
Dick, with all due respect, you're completely wrong.
You need to cut Medicare to cut the deficit as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are the biggest drain on our budget--that's fact. We shouldn't let lies the other side tells around the election affect the fact that we need to fix this; if all this policy is just for votes, then the those like Paul Ryan are just prostitutes.
//////The Republicans shoul do a commercial on pushing one-hundred Grandmothers over a cliff showing what would happen if the Democrats do Nothing about medicare under their plan of doing nothing to reform the plan.Fight fire with fir also Rayns plan should be explained in laymens terms to show the American voters that they are not throwing anyone over a cliff.
Government needs to get out of health care and the student loan business. When ever government subsidizes the purchase of something that something goes up. Period.
Sure if what you want is to put you party in power, then yes kick the can down the road. Today the unfunded portion of entitlements is $20 trillion that is only more than the entire GDP for a year, no sweat not a problem.
Dick Morris is the only person that appears on Fox news that tells the truth about entitlment spending. The thing I have noticed is every time he points out the fact that medicaid and welfare are the real runaway entitlment spending problems the host on Fox news starts to choke up a bit and becomes clearly unconfortable. They just nod their heads and quickly change the subject. every other person I hear on Fox says we have to cut entitlements like Medicare and Social Security.
Brilliant, correct. Stop talking about Medicare. Focus on igniting an economic boom by reducing govt spending (federal, state, local) from 41% of GDP down to 20%. Reducing govt regulations from 20% of GDP to 5%.
However, the annual borrowing must be brought to zero, not just to 3% of GDP. There is no excuse for the richest nation on Earth to be borrowing. We must also start repaying the national debt, target zero debt by 2040.
Dick has been says this for weeks, I remember an earlier article or video. And of course he is correct. His earlier point was to attack the budget except for Med/SS and force the Dems to move first on it, not take the 'bait' and get suckered. The main point to fixing this or any other issue is to get rid of Obummer, not to fall on a sword.
I can recite facts and figures with the best of them but they don't have the impact that a simple discussion of the current situation would have. Two or three charts clearly showing where we are, what entitlements are costing and projected to cost as a percentage of the overall economy, points of no return if nothing is done, etc, etc. Pictures, after all, paint a thousand words. Control the narrative!!!
The real problem is that the argument is being framed in more or less the same way as it has been in the past. Again, the left and their lapdogs in the media are controlling the narrative with distortions and even outright lies. Proponents of change have got to stop talking over the heads of the dumb masses. The choir gets it but the folks sitting in the pews need the facts to be presented repeatedly and clearly at their level. Visual aids and lots of media ads with same would help.
Excellent Dissertation Mr. Morris; the reactionary repubs are crazy with the cuts. Ask Arnold how great it is to gut the budget & then next year's deficit is larger. Plus are you seriously going to tell old folks that you are going to cut their Social Security & Medicare & too bad if you die? Its political & societal suicide.
How about a Wall St tax, Nationalize the Fed, end foreign wars, enact tariffs & re-industrialize & our nation thru cheap credit and grow our way out of this mess!
Morris, your reading too much in to it. That district is hopelessly split and has been for some time. Also, you neglect the fact of what Obamacare is doing to Medicare.
How can you tell an enemy of the People? They use any issue to get re-elected even if it means being completely dishonest and deliberately ignoring a problem that will ultimately lead to abject poverty for millions. Thank you Liberal Progressive Socialists or as I prefer to refer to them Retrogressives.
Dick is right though - entitlement junkies won't vote for any reform until it's obvious that there is no other choice.
I'm sorry, Mr. Morris, I disagree with you here. As one gentleman said earlier, the can has been kicked down the road long enough. It is hitting the wall now. Each time someone appeases these entitlement programs, they become farther reaching to reform, or even TOUCH! If we wait until we have to take austerity measures, such as those in Europe, we will have opened ourselves up to an attack on our country by those who want us dead. We have NO money. Tea Partiers will stand strong on this.
Well, the Democrats may seize upon this. And if the American people, by now, do not understand the need for entitlement reform, and the importance of slashing these programs NOW, then we are never going to save this Republic. I don't want a leader that doesn't want to face the hate that he/she will have for cutting these socialist programs. I want a leader. I want someone that will cut it NOW. They may be disliked, and only face one term. I don't care. 38Trillion needs cut! No more.
It's easy to say "Hey, just kick the can down the road" when you're 60-something and will likely be dead before entitlement spending crests. People in their 20's will be the ones bearing the burden of politicians playing games with entitlement reform.
The better way to prevent this issue from killing republicans in the next election is to frame the discussion as being in the "brainstorming and vetting" phase rather than the "this is what we're going to do" phase.

RON PAUL has introduced legislation that would 'protect' SS/Medicare - he got NO support in the House.
RAND PAUL has presented a budget plan that actually DOES reduce the deficit, and 'long term' WITHOUT TOUCHING SS/MEDICARE.
I'm voting 'republican' in 2012 - but ONLY because RON PAUL is running as a Republican, and he's the ONLY candidate that deserves an 'AMERICANS' vote.
