Mr. Martinson is fundamentally correct on this issue; the only real value of protesting, or of political activism in general, is to provide both the awareness & the "why" behind likely turbulent action later, of whatever nature and form. For instance, the Founding Generation would write articles & pamphlets providing the reasons why revolution was necessary (such as Thomas Paine). People would burn effigies of corrupt British officials. The Establishment recognizes this historical trend.
